Announcing DiRT 4 | Codemasters Blog

Recommended Posts

Can we expect the same amount of realism/simulation that Dirt Rally had or will this be a more arcade experience like the other numbered Dirt games?

Nice. Hopefully they will continue to support VR like they did with Dirt Rally. On all platforms, that is. Fingers crossed. Drifting on a monitor setup is something what just won't do anymore (for me).

VIVE support on PC at launch and I am preordering.
They don't mention VR support in the teaser video or in their blog announcement. It isn't listed in the feature list reported by gamereactor. It's not a good sign - which would really, really suck.

We definitely need VR support (Rift and Vive) right from the beginning... drifting non-VR is sooo boooring.
It's become one of the main selling points in (any) racing game for me, to the point where if a sim (simcade) racing game (with a cockpit view) doesn't have it, I won't buy it.

From the Red Bull article / interview (http://www.redbull.com/sg-en/dirt-4-interview-red-bull-games), which wasn't even a Playstation-centric interview - they only acknowledge PSVR, and only as a possibility:
Q:Was VR in consideration at any point?
A:It’s something that we will be looking at once we’ve seen people’s reaction to DiRT Rally on PSVR.
sad face.

So you telling me that no 2017 cars on dirt rally? That bulls...t!!!
They're probably exclusively licensed to official WRC game only, or something.

A lot of people crying when they haven't even read all the features. Dirt 4 seems like it's going to be the game dirt rally was trying to be. Dirt rally is down right awful. Can't believe how many people still say it's hardcore and "simulation" when its far from either. Dirt rally is utter rubbish. But it sounds like dirt 4 will be epic.

I'll probably pre-order it and have it launch day. 6 months pre announcement is surprising. I was expecting 2018 as well.

Sooo.... is this a combo of DiRT Rally and the numbered Dirt games, or just a new DiRT 4. I'm only really interested in DiRT Rally, but the procedurally generated rallies stages with the co-driver sounds incredible!

Great to see so many of our dirt rally suggestions being included, you guys really are listening it seems!
- Rally school
- Stage generator
- RallyX Lites
- More in depth damage/wear model (hopefully)
sounds fun to me!

A lot of people are asking everywhere wether this will keep the physics of DiRT Rally or not. Given the success and acceptability of DiRT Rally and the lack of information for DiRT 4 on this chapter the community is getting worried that DiRT 4 might turn into just another market-focus arcade game rather than the quality simulation that DiRT Rally was and which had a very positive response and sales. This would be important clarify because for many of us DR fans the physics chapter will determine wether or not DiRT 4 is a viable purchase. All the other features, specially the stage designer, are very appealing but if the physics change to arcadish then all the hype goes to dust. Also, together with the realistic physics it would be nice to keep a main set with the real stages like you've done with DiRT Rally so far, because those stages are so nicely done and we can actually feel like we are racing official WRC stages. This insecurity is also leading people to think this is a successor of DiRT 3 and not a successor of DiRT Rally. I've also read somewhere that you're only including 5 rally locations, of which some of DR's aren't even present. I hope the guy who wrote this is wrong everyday because the only thing DiRT Rally needed was to include the rest of the iconic cars and the rest of the WRC locations, making a total of 14. Congratulations on licensing the so requested and one of my favorites Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI :) Good luck with the rest of the development ;)
