Rally content on DiRT 4 !

Recommended Posts

Longer stages don't have anything to do with the physics model though. DiRT 4 will use the DiRT Rally engine, and that's where the limitation is at. The way I think Codemasters has set up their plan to take over the world:

step 1 DiRT Rally was to prove the point that a real and difficult to master rally game can work fine, both on PC and Console.

step 2:  DiRT 4 will give us more of what made DiRT Rally good. The stage generator forced Codies to use DiRT Rally engine as there otherwise could have been risks for delays.

step 3: DiRT 4, with both real and arcady physics, will hopefully sell more as more people will be able to play and feel like they do a good job. If they get a green light for DiRT 5 or whatever, they'll go ahead with the new tech. Implementing the Your Stage feature into the newest tech which is optimized for big environments could bring us the ultimate rally game. :smiley:

Wow, I was gone for a while since I lost my hope in Dirt. Now I see Dirt 4 is on it's way with some great improvements. I was very vocal about few changes DR needed, and D4 seems to be delivering some of those (like flying finish). We needed more stages with greater lenght,  not only we got that, we actually get a generator, that's what I call EPIC! Great job codemasters! It actually is a game changer in tracks department IMHO. What we need now and we didn't get any info on is:

- different tire types
-mixed surfaces
- reworked physics (I already discussed that in detail in the past)
-MOD SUPPORT (I know you will want to release DLCs and you are affraid no one will buy them if we get mods, but please be assured- virtual rallying community will support you if you give us a good sim)

I am sure there will be more, but we will have to actually play the game to know.

Thanks!

The game will be half arcade and half sim so i doubt we will be getting longer stages.
It's both arcade mode and sim mode, so let's focus on the latter one. We already got a confrimation of 18km long stages, that's pretty awesome if you ask me.

I can't give you direct links, but most of this has been discussed in the Gossip thread recently. I don't blame you for not sifting through it, it's moving pretty fast!

-Tire choices - this is being considered, but it's unlikely, so don't get your hopes up
-Mixed surfaces - If you mean gravel and tarmac in one stage, that will only be in the rally school and rallycross. Rally stages will have variations in their road surface, but not drastic like gravel to tarmac
-Physics - aerodynamics and suspension geometry are improved as well as tarmac handling
-Mods - Paul says they can't really discuss it but they won't try to limit it intentionally. I would assume it will be like DR

If Codies manage to please both worlds, Casual and Sim players, having "2 games in 1", WITHOUT mixing both experiences/modes (i.e one is Fish and the other is Meat. There's no between ), and WITHOUT making concessions ( i.e Wider stages for Sim players because Stages need to be used for both experiences/modes, and "impossible" to have 2 versions of the same Stage ), and they get this right, Codies will hit the Jackpot.

video that explains/shows the millions routes (i hope we can save them for future use in single player), shows the cameras of the car and more,

Thanks for posting this video.

I have not been playing DR for over a year now, the same tracks over and over just got boring, the good part about the game (the smooth driving) got lost in muscle memory. To me, it caused the game to lose it's soul, and turned me into a robot.
Today DiRT4 popped up on my youtube radar, and I watched a video of some german gaming-journalists to get an impression, and I was not impressed (;
Buggies? Destruction Derby style game mode? "WHY?" I said out loud.

I know to judge these guys' reporting though so I decided to come to the source, and found the thread I was looking for.
It is amazing how two people who know nothing about the genre gave me all the info I needed to change my mind and make this game a must have.
The stage generator is all Dirt Rally really needed. I presume there will be set pieces that you might start recognising (already saw one in the german's preview video), but this is just the nature of the beast in my opinion, we break down a rally stage into repetitive calls afterall (;

The way the editor combines those, along with elevation changes and bumps, will be enough to make online rally a new type of challenge and a ridiculous ammount of fun, if done right.
"Live Ladder" and "Tournaments" with randomly generated stages sounds like I am going to be in heaven, and then they put the cherry on top with some hopefuly noticeable changes in physics&damage model (wait, there is more cherries, CAN YOU SAY FLYING FINISH?). I don't care how miniscule these changes may turn out to be, this might aswell be Dirt Rally with stage generator and better online features, Codemasters will receive my money.
