Official TV HUD for F1 2017

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

This is my first post, however I follow this forum since Codemasters gets the license (in 2008?).

Official HUD is my no. 1 wish in every year.

I think we can still have hope, that this year the official HUD will be in the game. I assume that the official broadcast style should be signed off as well (like any other element of the game). Till E3 the HUD was just not signed off by FOM. The official intro is already in the game.

What do you think?

I have informations, but i cant talk about it yet.
Now? E3 gameplay? No official F1-style-HUD again.

I'm not sure if I want the official HUD. You are the driver not the spectator so the HUD should be tailored to help me as a driver. The official TV HUD is made to help spectators.  I really think Codemasters should focus more on how the HUD would help you as a driver without being too much of distraction than being more authentic to what we watch on TV.

If I was Codemasters I would think about how drivers will get their information in the future like a HUD displayed on the helmet visor. How would that work and how would that look to make the best benefit for the drivers.

The TV HUD should only be used in spectator mode

I strongly disagree.. if you want realism use the hud as its used not only by spectators. but drivers too. 99% of drivers on a finishing. lap, look at there own times on the large track side tvs with the live broadcast way before any info is given over radio.

There is totally no realism in using the TV HUD as a driver when on track. And yes when I say spectator mode I mean as well on the monitor placed on the car when in the garage. But on track there should not be a TV style HUD at all.

They could at least make it available for those who want to use it, if not then just turn it off. There’s realism for you.

We now have the silly codies HUD, you dont like that as well? Its just a replacement, not a new feature! Of you dont want any HUD, drive in cockpit cam, no problem. But for drivers who like the offset cam the HUD SHOULD be available

not on the main screen but on tv track side yes it does if you have the hub off to look at your lap times... just like in reality.. drivers use it as a large tv pitboard time sheet... replays to add authentic look but not important to me

I don't have any desire to get into arguments about stuff like this because I know full well that everyone values different things, and just because I don't value them, doesn't mean that others shouldn't get what they want, but my thought pattern is similar to that of @BelgiumDude, in that I don't really see the point of features that make it more like it's on tv, because I don't want to feel like I'm watching tv, I want to feel like I'm the most talented driver in the history of Formula 1 starting out her career.  o:)

That said, it would not harm me any if the interface was in the official style. The only thing that matters to me is that the screen doesn't get clogged too much. I don't mind the current hud because it's fairly minimalistic, but it doesn't need to stay this particular style to remain minimalistic.

I do have to admit I am always surprised how passionate people are about things like this. Also the t-cam, which I couldn't fathom being used by anyone until I started visiting this forum. But as long as they keep the interface functional and keep the screen from getting too cluttered, I don't see anything wrong with using the official graphics if this is important to many people.

You want to feel like the most talented driver in the history of Formula 1, yes?
And therefor you don't need the official F1-style-HUD but the HUD from Codemasters is okay for that or what?
Just feel great with that, you can turn it off and you are a driver, who is not seeing any HUD on screen. Be in cockpit view and you are the driver, just don't use the t-cam. This game should be interesting for everyone. For realistic "drivers" but also for the hardcore fans. That means, everything what Formula 1 is, has to be in a mirror in the game. The official HUD is missing and is an original element of the original product F1. And a lot of demos shows it, that this graphics are better and do not take too mutch space away than Codemasters HUD. Please guys who dont like this topic, accept now, that we have an official formula one game, but there are things missing.

Your comment gives me the distinct impression that you either didn't fully read or didn't fully understand my post...

personally. i have all hud info off, that is why it would be nice to see it on the big screens like all tracks have in real life so i can see my lap times just like drivers have been doing for years and still do... dont see where that fits as unreal...

Ask any driver if you ever get a chance... after a hot lap they look up at the big screen tv's official broadcast with hud. to see what time they did. They don't wait for ithe radio in case they can do another flying lap before the session is over.

Exactely, this is the main reason we like the official HUD. Secondly, in races the official HUD gives more detailed information on sector times, tyre compound and distance between drivers. Thirdly, the official HUD gives more athmosphere, for those who love Real formula one graphics, just Awesome. But the functionality is the most important!! Codies we are almost having a depression the HUD not in the game again, after many years of hope

I think that Lee mentioned he knows bout the official hud and it might be something for 2018
How can they already have something planned for 18 when 17 isn't even out yet?????

If that's the case they can patch in the hud to 17. We deserve it
because 2017 is pretty much done. The last 1 or 2 months or so of a games cycle is usually dedicated to polishing and bug fixing. Obviously it depends on the game as to how long that lasts but that's usually the case. The only reason they haven't shown everything off is because things still need to be signed off and OK'ed before they can be.

If Codies really "listen" to the community, not only to the YouTube addicts, they see that this topic has been read by 6.8 K people. Its a major topic on the forum, there are no excuses to ignore our wish for the official HUD

Unless Codemasters steps in to correct me, my take on why the official HUD is not in the game is because it's too much work when their developers focused on other things the community wanted. We barely asked for it throughout the past year. That's if it's not a legal thing. Implementing a new HUD would take a hell of a lot of coding/testing time. It was quick and easy for them when slightly tweaking the past 6 games' HUD.
My hope is that this thread has definitely shown where their priority approaching next year's game should be. All the time they took developing classic cars for this year's game should be the time frame for developing in the official HUD in the next developing cycle.
They should work on getting lap and delta times, in race car tweaking/info etc on the lcd of the wheel while they are at it too.

Codemasters hear us!

It's very simply in what looks better, it would look more professional with the official graphics, I mean it is the official F1 game after all.
Codemasters will ignore this as always when it comes to the hud, this is now the 8th game.
I remember being given a couple of reason in the past as its something i have always asked for, one was not allowed by FOM and the other was that it wasn't suitable with what is needed to be shown (which is bs)

If the latter is the case why then showing the official intro of F1 in the game?? Not important at all.. always clicking it away....hard to follow their choices...really contradictory... unbelievable.

I can remember, that i've asked for the official HUD via twitter some years ago.
I think the guy who answered me was Lee Williams (correct me if i'm wrong with his name), the ex-community manager who passed codemasters. He told me that "codemasters dont like the official HUD" and they made there "own thing".
This statement brought me to boil. I do not care what they like or not!
Again! They present an official sport with the name FORMULA ONE. And this product with all elements should be in the game. All graphic styles, rules and so on. It's incomprehensible that they work for classic cars, when the main product isn't completed!

Why there are so many detractor year by year?
Because there strategy is confused. One year safety car in, next year out. Classic cars in and than out again. Interviews in, and next year no interviews till yet (whitch is important for the sport and the gamer to feel the show of F1.
The main product isn't finished and they implement there own rules in the game, own graphics and so on.
Honestly, they make there life itself difficult.

They have really stopped developing the game graphically, the same textures have been used for the past 6 games with tiny adjustments and edited LOD settings to suit current console hardware. If they want to shine when the new consoles come out compared to developers that have recently built a game with fresh hi res textures and such, they have to give us something really different visually and i couldnt think of anything better than the offical HUD.

Fifa may not be directly comparable to F1 games, but they implement the official lay out of the European Competitions such as premier league and la liga. This suggests indeed that codemasters dont like the official HUD and choose their own graphics and lay out.

I couldn't agree more. The focus should be on replicating the hypothtical driver and very real spectator experience that we all know and love. That has to be their long term goal yet the go one step forward and two steps back each three years.
