The Case For Two Escort's in Dirt 4

Recommended Posts

In lieu of comments in the Dirt 4 discussion thread I put it to the jury, does D4 need two escorts in-game?
A full-blown Boreham Works Car for historic rallies and a modern spec car for the wannabe McRae's. Please comment below.

Id prefer a sequential Millington

Reasons For...

1) They had two escort mk2's in Dirt 3, if you got the Ken Block DLC
2) Seeing carbon fibre and a roof scoop in a 70's era car IS annoying
3) The modern mk2 and classic are MILES apart in terms of performance.

It would be wonderful to see a Boreham Works Escort in classic rally mode powered by BDA/G engine mated to a 5-speed ZF gearbox with appropriate sound and a period interior.

But, if you are like me and watch videos of Phil Collins, Jesse Crosse, Frank Kelly and Colin McRae on youtube then the Millington powered mk2 with modern sequential six speed box is just as important to compete in modern rallies.

Each vehicle is worlds apart from the other and should be treated as such.

Please, please, please :-)

Yeah, they already have one in the DR. Just needs a new interior, power boost to 333hp and a 6spd box to be complete.  Oh, not forgetying millington sound files.

How much work are we talking really??

Ha ha, not guilty bogani but happy to join the campaign ! For Millington fans, the sound files are available at RaceDepartment, I have them installed in my DR Mk2, not bad but nowhere near as awesome  as a BDA / BDG on Webbers. I can confirm that the sound files in the DR Mk2 come from a 1960's Datsun roadster :#  !! ( confirmed by @soundfx )

Agree with you thescousestig, that hideous roof scoop and oversize wheels makes it look like a frickin ice cream van crop sprayer !  I think @KickUp is with me on this but needs to convince others, I have offered to send a bulk order of biscuits for all concerned. No doubt you all saw my comments about it in the Dirty Gossip thread so I don't need to re hash my thoughts on it here. I suggested a compromise by doing a make over on the current car with a list of stuff to put right, at least to make it look and sound like a works Group 4 Escort Mk2. It is a real tragedy that the most iconic car of all time that is still winning rallies all over the world to this day has been overlooked like this. It more than deserves its rightful place in D4. How much work can it be... really !!

I would really appreciate it if members that share my view on a proper Group 4 Mk2 would join in my campaign, Clj9, where are you !

Ok. I don't wanna be that guy, but please stop calling the Webbers. They are called Webers.

Not for me thanks; sure, I'd prefer it to be the proper historic one but whilst there is one there that, when I squint, could be a proper one, I'd rather they spent the modelling time and licencing money on something else. Heck, a MkI would be preferable to me.

I'm here. West Coast so late to the forum.

Yes, of course I want a proper Boreham/Sutton Mk 11 Escort.

Let's not forget that DiRT3 also had 5 (!) Fiestas :D

But regarding the Escorts, I'd rather have a MK I along side (any of the) MK II

Pity you can't just buy a rolling mk2 shell in-game and build it with different engine options depending on which era you want to race in.

I'm really excited about the talk of buying new/used parts in D4 but this is probably just a pipe dream.

Now, there's an Idea....

Start with a 1600 pushrod, save up for a Pinto on 40's, earn more, cam it, buy 48's.  Buy a RedTop on ITB's and then when you hit the jackpot, invest in a Millington Diamond - Ooosh!

Ooh, ooh. This would be soooooo much cooler than the current 1-5 power upgrades and weight reductions. That would take a lot of engine sound files though...

There will be no upgrades in D4 as I've understood. Just upgrades to durability of components on the cars.

Don't forget, guys: Dirt 4 takes place in 2017, not the '70s. I know you all want historical accuracy, but they have a Mk2 Escort model that's already done, and is built in a way that would make sense for modern competition (like the game is depicting), so why go to all the trouble of modeling, recording, and licensing a different Escort when they could spend that energy getting something else done instead? Replacing the modern-built Escort with a period-built Escort would appease people who really want the historical accuracy, but for 80-90% of people playing the game, it won't matter.

Sorry, but you have to be realistic with your expectations. Some of you (you know who you are :p ) might see this as an important thing, which is fine, but the Dirt team probably has a laundry list of other priorities that are much more important. I'm sure they'd *like* to make things accurate if they can, but when they have a car already that works fine, replacing it with a slightly more accurate version of the same car can't be high on the priority list.

Good points, but there's a teeny problem with the current mk2 in DR...

It's a ba$tard child of two cars who got high on nitro meth and had a bunk up in a dark alley...resulting in a car that doesn't really belong...well...anywhere.

Now, if we take your proposal and codies take the current model, give it a proper modern interior with new engine sound and proper performance (333hp) then I will quit whining about the lack of a group 4 escort...for a while at least. It is a damned shame it was omitted though.

I happen to like driving the historic cars though. Looking forward to seeing what toys I can drive in D4.
