How many want VR support in Dirt 4?

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't say it's a gimmick, I'd say it's the future of gaming. The problem is, we're living in the present and it's an expensive, time consuming feature at the moment.

True. But they did it once. They don't have to invent it or build from scratch.
I still hope VR support will be released soon.

I think they will do it, at least for pc and PS4, like they did with D:R. They have said in the past that they would have  liked to have it in game when it gets released, they just haven't got the time or resources to work on it and the game at the same time.

I also want to believe that they will add VR, but without a solid commitment and some form of timeline (even a vague one), I just can't see myself spending much time on Dirt 4 without VR. So I don't want to spend money on Dirt 4 without an official solid 'PSVR support will be coming'; when the PSVR DLC for Dirt Rally is what keeps me coming back for more, from the release of that I literally have not once thought 'I'll play Dirt Rally on flat screen today' as the VR is what adds the  :) :#  :o :s :D :'( B) <3

100% of people who say this haven't tried it.
Could very well be but I have really no interest in trying it out with the current state of VR on consoles. It is to clunky, has to much wires and quality is insufficient. It is an interesting technology, that's for sure but for me personally it could become interesting at the 2nd or 3th generation of devices. Probably PS5 or PS6.

Have a go on an Oculus Rift setup for PC with Assetto Corsa or Project Cars, and I'm positive you'll change your mind

I've been building racing & flight simulators for many years and tried most driving games since Indy 500. These days I game on a powerful PC with an Oculus Rift, a playseat, steering wheel and pedals.

The Flight & Racing genres are absolutely spectacular with VR and I wont be buying any more gaming software that doesnt support it, no matter how good DiRT4 is.

Following DiRT Rally, I assumed D4 would have VR support and I'm absolutely baffled as to why it wouldnt have....

With the right equipment, racing with VR in titles such as Assetto Corsa is the closest you might ever get to the real thing. The gap between virtual and reality is much reduced.

Once you've tried it, you could never go back.

Edit 6/9: PLEASE DISREGARD! It looks like this is just left over code from Dirt Rally as the hardware_settings_config.xml file is identical to Dirt 4's hardware_settings_config.xml and the release update removed the triggering of Oculus Home. We can hope they will potentially re-implement it to work for Dirt 4 and not let that code sit around. I want to assume they want to release it when they get PSVR optimized and working so they can release at the same time woth PC VRs.

Not sure if im too late on this but they do have this line inside the hardware_setting_config.xml that is located in the "Document/My Games/Dirt 4/hardwaresettings" folder:

<oculus enabled="true" headMovement="true" chromatic="true" timeWarp="true" vignette="true" overdrive="true" convergence="1.0" verticalOrientation="0.66" orientationLock="false" />

Also it triggers Oculus Home when I turn the game on but it plays the intro but with a black screen but with sound and then closes the game. I guess it's not there yet but as they said it will come.

Edit: Have to turn off Oculus VR Runtime Service to play it normally on screen.

For what it's worth. Having a poll is fine, but the metrics your trying to gather is swayed by comparing it with the number of non VR owners.

If the result is to gauge the demand for VR. Then a simple tick box for "I want VR support []" would have given you the cleanest result for demand. At the moment the numbers look lost in the sea of people who monitor race vs VR race. Everyone has monitors therefore everyone can vote to play on a monitor.

The trend for people with VR to completely separate the Sim Rig with VR as their only video source is growing... and fast. People with triple monitors and a VR HMD do not want to general web surf, watch movies or fps game over the top of a FFB steering wheel because it's uncomfortable and unnecessary. 6 months after buying the Rift, I too saw the value in separating the two seating positions and can safely say that my setup now compliments everything I do nicely so long as the game supports VR for driving.

Moving the whole rig back in front of my desk is not practical or an option. And isn't for a lot of people. The #NoVRNoBuy movement actually has some reasonable backing behind it purely from a ergonomic and logistical gaming setup view. People aren't going to rearrange their gaming setups for just one game. And that's why the #NoVRNoBuy carries so much weight this time round...

It's not a case of being ignorant or pushy... I couldn't play Dirt 4 if I wanted to... my monitor (HMD) isn't supported.

You got me confused here, are you able to play it in Oculus now ?

Nope, it's just some legacy code from DiRT Rally that hasn't been removed. It doesn't actually work.

After reviews on simulation forums I should say thank you to CM for non-implementing VR for initial release.
If they had announded this feature I would have bought the title already (probably even in preorder)

You are correct, I just installed and looked at Dirt Rally's hardware_settings_config.xml file and it is identical. Please disregard my previous post.

The pre-release Dirt 4 build did trigger Oculus Home to come on but did not work properly and closes after the intro video but has been patched now with the release. I hope they can re-implement it to work properly with Dirt 4 assuming they want to release PC VR support once they get PSVR up and running so they can release both at the same time.

I still play Dirt Rally in VR, but would like the variety that Dirt 4 has to offer :(
Once you go VR, you cannot go back!

I just ordered this from Amazon and subsequently canceled it after finding it has no vr support. After playing dirt rally on PSVR I have no desire to go back.

I've tried VR in a racing game and to be honest until they find a way to show my hands, wheel and controls in the headset it is pointless. When you know you reach for the gear stick but don't see your hands move it breaks the immersion straight away. Once they solve that issue I'm all for it, until then I'll stay with my single monitor.

I not only lost all interest in non-VR racing, but my sim rig isn't in front of my monitor anylonger since I have VR. Just like you said... couldn't agree more. I really can't believe that Codemasters doesn't support VR anymore after the fantastic groundbraking work they did with Dirt R.ally.

Same here. PSVR totally killed race sims for me. Can't play without VR now...  B)
I never really liked rally games, couldn't get myself to play them even when I had wheel and racing seat. I used to play only Gran Tourismo.

Now thanks to the big drought in PSVR games after RE7, I finally got to play Dirt Rally with dual shock. Hard time at first, but finally got hooked and started to really love it. Bought a wheel, a stand with a seat, just got a PS4 Pro today and I keep playing Dirt Rally again and again.

I am dying to buy more content: DLC for Dirt Rally, Dirt4 wirth PSVR support.
I bought GT Sport but I am not playing it, the game is sooo bland.

Must say that DR looks pretty terrible in VR. Not the VR experience in itself, but the graphics  :s
