Triple Monitors

Recommended Posts

Ok, I can't believe that I cannot find a definitive answer to this question and also find it even harder to believe that it is even questionable.......Does F1 2016 have triple monitor support? Will it look proper when using NV surround at 5760X1080? Thanks in advance for any answer to this :)

Think the 2 side monitors stretch, so not proper triple no.
Ok Thanks. Yes a lot of games don't have real triple monitor support but will still look good using the resolution, as you said, it will just stretch the image on to the outer monitors. I was actually wanting to know if the AA got sorted so it actually looks decent using 5760x1080 reolution now because apparently, it didn't for the longest time and I haven't heard if it is still an issue.

I too run on triple 27's, 5760x1080 and F1 2016 looked HORRIBLE on that setup.  The textures were hysterically bad, from the road surface to the grand stands, billboards, etc. etc.  I've never seen a AAA title look so badly.  I fired up my old 2013 version and it looks stunning in comparison.  Oh and this is on a i7 4790k, 32GB Ram, GTX 1080.

When I dropped down to single monitor volia, everything looked stunning.  Textures were sharp and crisp and looked great.  "Ah, okay, just something funky" thought as I went back to triple, 5760x1080 but nope, it looked like the same crap as before.  What it seems to be doing is stretching the good 1080p textures out to 3x horizontally rather than blending the textures properly.  I went through every possible setting, one by one, turning stuff up to max and down to min to see if/what would effect it - and nothing.  Hell I was getting 200 fps+ with some setups but the textures still looked awful.

From what I know from others that have had this exact same issue it's still there and CodeMasters have already said they are done with F1 2016 and there will be no more patches or updates for it.  As such I"l cross my fingers for 2017 - and *hope* they add proper VR support and that you can use separate USB devices for wheel, pedals, etc.  F1 2015 wouldn't allow that so it was a no go for me, and any moderately serious sim racer as most all have separate USB pedals and wheels.

What would be the correct FOV, in your opinion?

There is no opinion when it comes to correct FOV, there's a correct FOV for your current setup and that's it. With Triple monitors you should ALWAYS be using correct FOV or the immersion is lost, this site goes into detail why and how you should set it up.

Unfortunately F1 2016 isn't a proper sim or the devs are mentally handicapped idk, but they gave a arbitrary FOV slider without the correct number which just baffles my brain but whatever.

I had to record Assetto Corsa @ my correct FOV and then travel at 60mph and copy how fast the grid lines were passing by, it's the only way you can get close, which is just ridiculous but hey you can't reason with stupid when it comes to devs especially.

I still did not get the point!
Why should I use something in a way I did not feel comfortable with?
And how can you judge I have the "wrong" FOV from a plain screenshot which might look completely different on my 35° angeled sidescreens?

I know the  ressource you mentioned and the last paragraph tells exactly what? It's a matter of personal preference!

Quote: "Remember, sometimes the mathematical FOV is a great start and what we should be aiming to get to if our systems allow us, but it's not cast in stone and should only be a guide. Use a value that feels right to you, it may differ across games and sims but that's just how it is, all games/sims are written slightly different and the eye point origin may differ greatly not only between games and sims, but car to car too."

Looking forward to hear from ya'

The point of triple screens is immersion, if you don't want that then fine I'm not going to try and convince you, I've tried once nothing more I can do.

When he talks about choosing what feels right, he's talking about when you must compromise with a smaller single screen, triples should always be 1:1 correct no exceptions.

In your point of view.
I use my triples just because I want to see what's going on left and right of my car when it's neccessary. An to get the apex in my view as soon as possible.

I'm running 3x screens and Nvidia GTX 1060 (on Intel i7 6xxx). Works as expected on "high" graphics preset (except for a few minor tweaks).
