1970's, easiest car to drive...

what is the easiest car to learn RWD from the 1970's era? I own the 1960 Mini Cooper and feel it's time to move up. I'm not looking for the quickest car but something that will be enjoyable to learn with before I move on to the 80's.

I like the Ford for starting out. The stratos is probably the best 70s car but can be hard to handle.

Are you using a wheel, controller or kb? At least with a wheel non of them are particularly difficult. Still don't get what everyones problem with the Stratos is, it feels very nimble :D At least for me, the Escort seems to spin out more easily, Kadett is not that happy on jumps and has a weird gearbox, Fiat is quite balanced, but I think is slightly slower compared to the rest.
I'd say just give them all a few test runs in Custom Even, and see which one you like better

Ok. Going with Prokhammers advice. I'm using the DS4.  Left stick to steer and right stick for throttle and brake.

I think the Fiat is easiest to drive as well, but once you get a feel for RWD you'll find them all pretty easy and fun to drive. The Stratos is extremely responsive, which is great fun when you learn it, but can be "snappy" if you're new. The other three have their own little quirks but they're not as different as the Stratos. Once you learn the Fiat you shouldn't have much trouble switching over to the Escort or Kadett.

Fiat Abarth has the most stable, predictable handling and is the easiest to drive.

Fiat 131 is the easiest but is slow in comparision.shame as its actually my fav 70s car :p

I found the Fiat easiest for tarmac and the Escort or Opel for gravel. I never had the balls to go back to the class since they added Sweden.....

I personally find all the 70's cars nice to drive in Sweden, except for the Stratos. :D I can't put my finger on what it is, but I can't for the life of me match times of the other cars with it there.

Maybe it's the shape, I feel the Stratos reacts extremely sensitive to the slightest contact with the snowbanks.

This game is so addictive. Much better than any of the F1 games CM created. Does anyone know why they didn't include the Renault Megane? I believe it was a yellow and blue car.

That's the difference between us. No way I can completely avoid touching the snowbanks. I need a car that can plough through it. At least sometimes...

Another thing worth mentioning about the Fiat (and the Stratos) is that they handle landings after jumps the best of the lot as well. The Mk2 has a tendency to bounce back a couple of times, and the Kadett would prefer not to go over any at all. The Fiat and Stratos, at least in my experience, tackles any kind of bump with ease.

I'm really liking the Fiat...very fun to drive.  Quick question, I'm not a fan of the the oversteery nature of RWD rally cars so I started tuning out that characteristic of the car by moving brake bias forward and a more loose differntial.  What else can I do? Sweden is proving to be a real challenge for me.

There are a couple more things you can do to tune out oversteer but try not to over do it to much as in the long run learning to catch and deal with the oversteer will be beneficial. Most will have to do with the suspension and the balancing between the front and the rear. You can soften the rear springs and stiffen the front springs to induce understeer. You can also increase the negative camber angle on the rear and decrease the negative camber angle on the front. Also you can try weakening rear arb and strengthening the front arb. Generally making the rear softer and front stiffer will induce understeer and decrease oversteer and vice versa as well for cars that are understeery.

FYI, setting the differential to the strongest setting makes the car a lot more stable. I never use anything less if I can avoid it.
