DiRT 4 appreciation thread

Recommended Posts

Not sure what everyone else is playing but this is every bit as good as Dirt Rally. The updated tarmac physics alone are worth the price of entry.

Just wanted to show my appreciation as well, loving the game so far!
Personally, I'm actually even finding the handling itself somewhat harder than D:R, but in a positive way (only driven R2, R5, Gr.A, Buggies yet).

For example: I was actually happy that I "was able to" lose the backend of my car under braking now, as this never really happened to me in D:R (and was one of the areas where I felt SLRE (pls don't kill me guys) did actually do a better job "physics wise" (than D:R))!
Sadly losing your back end into a corner isn't that great for your overall stage time! Maybe I'll learn to brake correctly at some point. :#
On the topic of "too much grip in the rear" I'm not sure what to make of it really, as I've got no RL experience whatsoever. But in some situations I feel like there could be a little less grip as well - but maybe it's a car setup thing, too. Let's see how this whole thing develops.

Haven't got the chance to try RX yet, but throwing the Buggies around in Landrush felt crazy good, even though the AI seemed a little slow to me.
And I was quite suprised how much time I've spent (crashing into things) in the DirtFish-Area! I guess it's a good thing if a driving-game makes you drive around aimlessly because of it's fun handling!

What I find most interesting is it seems like basically all of the top drivers from dirt rally that I've seen posting here with the exception of doyaneedthis think dirt 4 is a step up. Yet it's internet randos no one has ever seen that are convinced the game is a complete step back.

The crosskarts are really fun to drive. Seeing a bit of stuttering on the Xbox One version. But it hasn't affected my driving. Played 100+ Hours in Dirt Rally and Dirt 4 is pretty similar in handling. People who say the handling is too arcade, must be delusional.

Wah wah wah it's different is all I'm hearing so far. Spend a bit of time with the game and learn the handling and it's every bit as deep and rewarding as Dirt Rally.

I agree, it's a definite improvement from Dirt Rally as you can now get a right old tank slapper on if  you're not careful which is something I never managed to do in Dirt Rally. Thumbs up from me apart from the RWD cars on gravel as others have mentioned.

Anyone who thinks D4 is as challenging as DR might be delusional....

Play a maximum length stage in Wales in the fog and tell me where DR is more challenging.

Nothing to do with conditions, it's the physics im referring to - play the longest stage in Wales on Dirt Rally and tell me that's not more challenging

I LOVE  the joyride section:) wish we could invite friends to freeride at that spot, me and my nephew would have had a blast chasing each other, drifting etc there. if you want that too, let em know;)

havent progressed far enough so i've been able to buy a rallycross car, but i tried the 4wd Ford. CRAZY!

i did hate on some things in the beginning. t500rs issue on ps4, but overall now on the pc version. im HAPPY:) lots of fun!

Codemasters, sort the t500rs ps4 problem. Patch the grip issue on the rwd

Thank you for this game DEVELOPER. Hope you got plenty in store for us, like VR, more DLC. Im happy to throw money at you:)

I just did the Founder's event. The Hyundai feels great! Spain is lovely too, I love the forest sections. I have the game on mostly high settings and I'm finding the game quite nice looking, a little more refined than DR in my opinion. DR had some ugly lighting in places that made otherwise pretty locations look a bit rough (shadow pop-in in Monaco in the evening, some plants in Greece being completely shaded, grass in Finland being too dark in overcast or rain, etc.) but so far things have been peachy in Dirt 4.
My first stage went surprisingly well considering.
The second stage not so much. I hit the town and Ms. Horsey didn't tell me there was a hidden square left until I hit the wall. I was very confused and rather irritated.
The third stage also went rather well.
The fourth stage not so much. It seems like if you have any kind of tight technical sections the codriver just gets later and later.

Hyundai Event: I got the dreaded misfire about a minute into Stage 3, even though I did full repairs after Stage 2.
Had to finish 3 and 4 with a sickly engine. Still mid Tier 2 though so far.
Nicky: "It sounds like the engine's got a misfire.'
Me: "No Nicky, it sounds like I'm driving a bleating goat."

looks great, remember you can change the colors of most of the sponsors logo so that isn't black logo on black car

Funnily enough, the sponsor on my car, ACW Motorsport, I have just ordered some plastic windows from them for my rally car, and they are based about 10 miles away from where I live!

Proof that licensing your brand/logo for a video game is good for publicity! *cough*Toyota*cough*

My current colors. Some logos get broken up by the patterns on certain cars, but I like it anyways. It looks appropriate on modern cars, with the trend of really busy and complex liveries the past couple years. Purple!

you can change the color of most of the logos to help not get broken by the patterns, go to sponsors highlight one and hit the X button the change color

Yeah I know, I was referring to the Elonex logo. It's either white or black, and overlaps white and black parts of the livery. I'll try to pick something else that fits better when the contract expires. ;)

I discovered a nice little detail: i bought a yellow seat ibiza kit car. My team colour is blue. Now the outside is blue but the inside of the car is still yellow.

It's the same on the 2001 impreza, but with blue interior. I remember thinking it was a bug back in the dirt rally days

its not really a bug, the thing is that the 3d model for the interior you see when you are on the head cam is separate from the 3d model for the rest of the car, so it would have to have a separate pattern and livery customization to apply to the interior as well
