DiRT 4 appreciation thread

Recommended Posts

I just did my first full event in Sweden - holy crap it's so much better than DR! I kind of hated Sweden in DR, I was never sure why but it just felt strange and uncomfortable for me. Now though, it feels fantastic; the improved feeling of weight makes the surface much more communicative and I actually feel confident now! Plus it looks MUCH better. It feels so improved it's almost like a whole new location.

Unfortunately though, I'm finding the AI on Tough to be way, way too easy. I'm beating them by like 20 seconds per stage, even with mistakes. I hope that gets addressed soon because so far that's really the only complain I have.

I'd just like to express my appreciation for Dirt4.
It feels that the dev team put their heart into this game. They took notice many of the requests of the fans, and many did many improvements and some amazing new stuff.

I really like "Your Stage".  It must have been a hell-of-a job to put it together to work like this - the stages feel very natural and life-like. I had some doubts when I first heard about this project: I expected to see some awkward turns and sections, and that we will see the "seams" where the generated sections meet. I expected a somewhat repetitive, dull experience: I've been wrong, "Your Stage" is the new standard for rally simulations!
You guys were brave to make this decision to develop "Your Stage" and release D4 without manually assembled stages, but its proven to be gold.
Some more roads, turns, intersections and other stuff in the "LEGO-box" of "Your Stage" would make it even better and some more locations in the future - but it's incredible even in its current shape.

The career mode is also a big improvement to Dirt Rally: the team management, the branding suite is a great addition, and it's very nice mood-maker to see the car between the stages in the service area, It really improves the immersion.

Physics are also much better: there are some slight issues with the RWD rear-end grip but it's not that serious. AWD and FWD is much improved and the new asphalt physics are great too.

Thanks for your hard work, thanks for this amazing game. I only hope that after a well-deserved rest your next project is making new content for D4 and not a completely new game. I hope D4 will have a long life with many new locations and cars as DLCs.

Really like the classifieds. The Repsol-liveried Integrale just popped up for the first time. Bought!
I like the fact our garage can be upgraded to hold 120 vehicles.
Is that the way to unlock most liveries? Get them from classified cars?

I love RX and this nails it! I love the new tracks and can't wait for more! There will be more RX tracks in the future, right?

The RX cars handle phenomenally!

For the Historics it's the only way I guess.
Except for when you are gifted cars, but Im not sure how frequent that is because I've only received two and I'm at Level 24.

For the modern stuff I don't know.
80% of my time is in Historic Rally.

I've hate Sweden but here I simply love it. You can clip the banks now without being horrified for an 180 degrees spin. The Space Star just flows through the snow. Lovin it.

I'm curious about why there are so many car slots as well. Is it so we can own every car in every colour?

To me the banks feel too solid. What happened to the soft snow bank tech?

Sweden is a bit too bumpy and technical for my liking. Would love some roads more like the real ones, fast and flowing.

Sweden is the only location that disappoints me in DiRT4. Feels a bit too easy; almost no punishment for going off the line (or road for that matter) at all.

Yup me too, tried the crazy Lancia V6 and was struggling to get it to break traction even on a full throttle take off .

High traction is normal with narrow, studded winter tyres. Sometimes the grip even surpassed that on gravel, rally drivers loved it.

I'm talking about the location being dumbed down.

Alright, I seriously wonder what stages people really played in DR. I thought Wales was alright, but Greece was my favorite. Everything else just had super funky physics or terrible FFB so I never really played them.

I did notice that the stages were wider, and they're definitely a lot bumpier. The snow banks are still definitely there though, I plowed through them in both games... trying to get screenshots...yeah, they'll buy that excuse...

Also, when I was nabbing screenshots I found that D4 is WAY harder to play with a controller, but holy crap the RX in DR is AWFUL. It felt so unnatural at every point. It actually felt so bad that D4 was easier even with harder controls.

Yes, of course the snowbanks are there. But they don't punish you anywhere near hard enough, that's my point.

Yea, once I've realised I don't have to be afraid anymore there's something missing in Sweden. You can just push through 101%.

I'd like it to be a bit more sucking in but not to the level of DR where it was unforgivable.

Kinda felt the need to bump this thread, after more than a week of playing, aside from the little bugs  and the inconsistent levels of grip, I'm really liking the game, and I'm surprised by the little touches here and there, like the intercom failures making you not hear your codriver/ spotter,  and the weather conditions really more "lively" and graphically advanced than the pretty dull ones of DR. Keep it up guys ;)

Forgot to comment in this thread because of how much time I've spent playing the game.

Still an excellent experience, and will be for years to come.

No difference to my frames, fortunately. Somehow been lucky with that. Well, it helps that both Borderless and Fullscreen stutter the same amount, because FX 8350.

Somehow missed your post by 6 days :D

But yeah, due to stutter i got a chance to familiarize with Gamer mode and it feels... kinda retro, something like DiRT 1/CMR2005 levels of retro. It is very fun. D:

I've played it that much that I managed to break my brand new Fanatec PS4 CSL elite wheel.

I have an 8350 and it runs fine...

Nothing serious, the 4 way directional switch threw a wobbly and wasn't working on all directions. A bit of twiddling and pulling appears to have repaired it for now but it seems a very wimpy switch and I've heard of another person having the same problem. As for the wheel itself the ffb is streets ahead of the T300 as long as one of the settings is changed
