DiRT 4 appreciation thread

:D Man, gymkhana really did divide the crowd, didn't it? I actually enjoyed the Battersea area, but I do agree that far too much of it was shoehorned into the career in DiRT 3.
Yeah had they kept it away from career mode, it would have made a great little arcade rally game, and I probably would have kept playing through it every now and again. But being forced to do that crap ... oh hell no. zzzzz

I feel the same. Seems like almost every racing game/sim has a small but determined group of folks who want so badly to drift their hearts out. I have no problem with that at all. Whatever they want to do with their copy of a game to make it more fun for them is cool with me. I can understand if game companies want to include optional features & modes to help reach more customers & sell more copies of a game.

But I think it's a big mistake to require all players to slog through minority-pleasing modes in order to properly progress & complete championships with top marks. Unfortunately, GRID AutoSport did the same thing with drifting events. Specialty/niche modes like that should be entirely separate from racing mode paths.

Aiming to please a variety of audiences can be a good thing, but separate audiences should not be funneled into areas/disciplines they're not interested in, and they shouldn't have their progress in their chosen area/discipline affected just because they avoid (or aren't good at) other areas/disciplines. If a player just wants to be a racing champ, then they should never have to touch any drifting/gymkhana events - and vice-versa: if a player just wants to be a drifting/gymkhana champ, then they should never have to touch any racing events. Same goes for LandRush (I'm not a fan of it).

I thought Dirt 2 was great as an overall package. Not a great rally game by any means, but a great racing game. I felt Dirt 3 was pretty similar but the lack of atmosphere (I actually liked the RV menu!) and Gymkhana made me like it less.

Has anybody else noticed the visual damage improvements? On cars with a lot of plastic, the pieces actually tear into shreds, instead of getting dented like it would in... well every other rally game, really. I find this feature amazing!

Dirt 2 was not bad but the overall american dudeness and bad menu system which seems to play most codie games was infuriating.i think dirt 1 was actually the best out of all the first three less trying for the crowd/money more about the sport.thats why dirt rally was so well recieved.it felt like a project from the heart and soul not a commercial must be done for money.

menu system actually worked in dirt rally basic easy to use.i buy every codie game since they made them and things they must change is what plagues all their games MENU SYSTEM , REPLAY CAMS.
