DiRT 4 appreciation thread

Recommended Posts

Too many crybabies around here, bringing down the mood. Post positive things about DiRT 4 here! :D

Today, to my amazement, I found out that they've improved the sound of the Ford RS200. You're committing a crime if you don't shift at the limiter in this thing now!

There's tons and tons of other stuff they've improved, of course - but name the first (DiRT 4 related) thing that comes into mind.

I haven't played the game yet (waiting for Steam release) but I love the various little things that have been added since Dirt Rally that capture the "little things" in rally, like unexpected mechanical failures (so far I've seen brakes, engine misfires, and failing lights,) wild animals, stalled cars, etc. Being able to see your car in the service area with accumulated damage, along with your team's colors/liveries. All that kind of stuff builds immersion and the sense of actually being part of a rally team, not just in a game playing some stringed together stages over and over.

I am loving this game so much. People these days feel like they need to have "concerns".
DiRT 4 feels just as challenging to me as DiRT Rally, if not more because there's no learning stages anymore.
I will be entertained for years with DiRT 4, and you couldn't ask for a more open, direct team of people in the game industry. Thanks Codies.
(You also let me paint a Mk2 Escort dark metallic blue, and thrash it around Australian dirt roads. I haven't had the chance to do that for 23 years. So again, thanks!)

Crybabies need not post here at all, fyi.
I did pre order for more than 14 day. Argh, I cancelled the refund...

"For those of you who loved the simulation handling from DiRT Rally, don’t worry – our simulation stuff for DiRT 4 is very much based in the foundations of that, but refined in certain areas."

I would appreciate if it was true...

Yes, we get it - you don't appreciate Dirt 4. But why not express it in existing topics on the matter? Did you not read the initial post?

Another little detail i appreciate are the Event News tickers on the bottom of your screen whilst you are in the Service Area.
Everything from "Reckless Fans: Course organizer threatens to cancel rally" to "Damaged Fences: Farmers have complained about .multiple broken fences along their property"
Just small inconsequential things that make the event feel more lived-in.
It's neat.

Of course you're not restricted to list just one thing, I was merely curious what first came to mind within them heads of yours!

Another reason I love Dirt 4; rainy Wales in the Evo 6:

Porky what cars have you purchased thus far? Sold any?
Uhm... I bought... many. I'll have to get back to you on that, haha! I remember selling my Group A Ford though, to afford another car.

Look at this wide stage, so arcade popcorn.

For real though, Wales has wide bits, as well as narrow bits.

Your Stage looks FREAKIN' AWESOME. It really seems like they created rally gold with this one.
Also, the average maximum length of stages has increased to be around 15km from the footage I have seen. Whereas DR, it is around 10km on average. Now, every location has the possibility to be as long as Finnish stages and way more complex and difficult! This is superb.

It's 16km in DR too. Average is 10, but only because there are shorter and longer ones.

It's 16km only in Finland, on others its about 10km on average. D4 I believe you can go up to 17km in ALL the locations (including previously Wales and Sweden which were much shorter), which is a huge step up.

I haven't played the game yet and until my really bad flu goes away I probably won't. However, I think it's safe to say that no other game in history has captured the essence of rallying as perfectly as D4, because rallying isn't just racing street legal cars on dirty backroads: there's the element of surprise, of uncertainty, of fear, of pure chance, which a game has finally been able to convey. Flickering lights, static intercoms, misfires, collapsed suspension, the weather changing from downpour to sunlight, the sight of a fellow competitor stranded at the side of the road. It all makes it so special.

Really like the classifieds. The Repsol-liveried Integrale just popped up for the first time. Bought!
I like the fact our garage can be upgraded to hold 120 vehicles.

If you want to be so thorough:

Sweden is average 12km
Germany is average 11km
Finland is average 15km, but longest is 16205.26metres
MC 9-10km
Greece 9-10km
UK 9.9-11.5km

I've just wanted to acknowledge the fact that there were longer stages in DR.
I hope you're right about all locations in D4 :)
