Dirt 4 very disappointing

Recommended Posts

People need to realise the whole point of a "forum" is to discuss things good or bad. It is a platform for opinions. Saying you are not happy with a game is not "crying" and does not mean you should just shut up and get a refund. In my opinion the game falls very short of where it should be. The handling is nowhere near as good as dirt rally (my opinion) and the graphics are very poor (fact).

Still really amazes me when people think dirt was was absolutely perfect with no flaws whatsoever.

How can people be happy with hover craft rocket ship physics?

10/10 from the current rally games selection!
rocket ship physics? LOL!
DiRT4:
If the rear wheel is off the road, the car will spin immediately!
Is it realistic rally car physics?

It must be something wrong with dirt 4. The driving feel was good in the Akademy, like in dirt rally. But on the rally stages Its is disaster. I have tried and change the handling mode and it is no differce in rally. So i hope an update will solve the problem.

I honestly think you've never played DiRT Rally. Or, you're trolling.

I have played a LOT Dirt rally. It is the best rally game so far, the physics is really good.. And the hole point with dirt4 was that you shoud be able to choose the simuliation or gamer mode. But when simulation feels the same as gamer mode, well Disapointing is the least to say.

I've got Dirt 4 on Xbox One and have to say the graphics overall look great. Sure like with most Rally games due to the nature of the game and the fact their is different natural setting some do look better than others. The best looking stages up to now I think are Australia, USA and Wales. The game looks truly stunning when running through the forest/trees with the light and the amount of foilage on screen, but can also look bland and sparse on the plains and fields sections due to exacting what they are.

ive not tried Rally X or Land Rush in depth yet but they also look pretty good. TV set up and settings are half the battle and on my 51inch Samsung Plasma (1080p) Dirt 4 looks great overall.
Like someone already mentioned check in the graphic setting of the game and alter the game brightness so the last symbol is just visible. This will make the colours pop more especially on the USA staged and make sure the detail is not lost when there is strong lighting effects on screen as this can wash out the overall image.

In all honesty the graphics don't bother me too much, it's the insane amount of grip from the car which does. There's no freedom to do what you want with the car. It's glued to the track surface. I'm using a TX wheel on the xbox btw. It looks like the handling has been dumbed down and optimised for the controller rather than the wheel.

I'm playing with the controller in gamer and the amount of grip is really insane. It could do with being toned down a bit in gamer as you oversteer into every corner even in the land rush. I had a go last night in the cross karts and those are essentially broken, how you can from sliding on a wide corner to massive grip and oversteer in the next slightly tighter corner is impossible so much so I quit the cross karts after less than half a lap.
ive Not tried simulation as I struggled with Dirt Rally with a controller and as i am a controller player gamer fits more but is not right by all means, even arcade handling shouldn't have the massive grip and oversteer dirt 4 has.

Everyone is entitled to express his/her feelings. Negative or positive ! It keeps things balanced most of the time. Nothing wrong with critical and constructive feedback.

There the thing Dirt 4 was produced to be easily accessible to the masses and not cater to the small simulation market. Dirt Rally is hardcore and what Sim players wanted where Dirt 4 is the latest in the Dirt arcade style games. Think back to Dirt 2 and Dirt 3 and you get the idea of what Dirt 4 is continuing from.

it seems the people railroading the game for not being sim enough are the ones who just don't get what the Dirt franchise was before Dirt Rally.

overall as a gamers game Dirt 4 is good but it's not perfect and needs some tweaking to hit the same spot that Dirt 3 & Dirt 2 did.

All well and good but this game has been sold on the basis of catering for both markets - arcade and sim...many here feel the sim mode is just a poor imitation

Of course it's going to be a poor imitation of a sim it's a jack of all trades and master of none in terms of execution.
From day one it was well known no matter how much of the Dirt Rally handling code was in there a lot would need to be stripped back just based on keeping the asccessable to the masses.
Anyone who tried to play Dirt Rally with a controller found it extremely difficult if not impossible to play, even I have a PS4 copy gathering dust as I don't have a wheel and with controller it's impossible to play.

sure the sim setting on Dirt 4 does help a little and with some tweaking puts the game somewhere between Dirt 4 gamer and Dirt Rally in terms of handling but it's never going to be as hardcore as Dirt Rally. Anyone who thought it would be even 80% close to Dirt Rally in terms of handling with a wheel are deluded it was never going to happen due to what needs to be stripped back to get Dirt 4 to work as a mass market game.

But that's not what the dev's said - arcade handling was for the mass market.

i personally think Dirt Rally is the best controller pad handling game on ps4, challenging yes but hugely playable and in turn hugely rewarding.

Project cars, now that's a hard game on a controller....

A huge step bacwards after Dirt rally!

What the hell is that bad looking digital display in a lot of cars, evenin an old Subi?
Milestone was used like those one-style displays in WRC3 about 6 yrs ago... Very annoying, very unrealistic

Why no ambient shadows and too much light in car cockpits? Like there is no roof of a cabin?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqV1KN8qKCs
Same track, same weather, same hours why is so light in the cabin ? :o

Codies shouldn't give you any money back. Not as if there's been preview screenshots and videos out there for months on end.

Why EVERY STAGE IS CANDY OVER-STAURATED like in a bad mobile game. very unnatural, very PS-like...
In Dirt Rally all stage looks like real
I can tell you how badly optimised Dirt 4 engine, lags a lot, why Dirt Rally runs smooth on the same machine

FFB is crap in Dirt 4 . You can get no response from the road surface, just steering the wheel for left to right like a rubber or spring tensioned steeringwheel
In Dirt rally you feel the bumps, the G forces of a curved road, when you brake hard etc. All of these are missing in Dirt 4., like in WRC 3 / WRC 4 you feel you travel alqays on flat grounds with some jumps that's all

Lol at console players thinking they'd get the same experience... buy a computer and enjoy the game like the rest of us, sick of these whiny little kids.

Thought it was pretty clear this wasn't going to be Dirt Rally and would feature a game back to Dirt 3 where everyone can play. Must not have payed much attention.
