AI in Rallycross

Recommended Posts

After doing several rallycross events, I have noticed something strange with the AI. Every time on top spots are drivers like Chcicherit, Gronholm, or Marklund, while the better drivers IRL like Solberg , Loeb or Bakkerud, never make it into top 10. Does anybody have the same bug?

Yeah, I've noticed this on my end as well, but mostly in the results of simulated heats/semi-finals (as in: not the one you are racing in yourself).
I also remember me wondering why Solberg, Hansen and especially Bakkerud were being quite low on the Heat-Table regularly when I was doing RX.
On the other hand, the few times I was in a race together with Bakkerud-AI, it was bloody fast - that's why I'm wondering whether it only is a thing in "simulated" races.

I don't know, not sure how much I like the way the AI works in Rallycross in general:
In my experience, you've mostly got one (random?) driver who's being possessed by the spirit of the Alvarez-dude of Rally-events (the one that obliterates every other AI on the timesheet) miles ahead, while the other cars are rather slow compared to him - resulting in a stretched field of cars and not a lot of battling after the start.
As I said, I'm also not sure how I feel about the heat-time-simulation for the AI either. It seems...rather random in terms of which drivers are the "fast ones" in a session at times. And then again, it seems these chosen "fast ones" of each session are quick more consistently throughout the heats. But then it usually was not a Solberg, Hansen, Bakkerud, etc. who was up there in most session I played, but as you said, names like Chicherit, Grönholm or Ericsson.

(That doesn't mean that I feel there shouldn't be any variation in the pace of a driver between heats/between events, but it feels weird if drivers that consistently place rather high IRL struggle to make the semi-finals reliably in-game more regularly than drivers you'd expect struggling more to qualify IRL,but are in turn topping the Heat-Leaderboards more consistently in-game instead.)

I mean it's way better than Dirt Rally was in these aspects, but still, I think there's stuff that could be improved here, yes.
