It is so easy to qualify Codemasters as a bunch of amateurs...

I wouldn't call them amateurs: CodeMasters has been developing car racing games for at least 20 years - so I expect much better from their 2 decades of experience, even if they don't have the colossal resources of giant publishers. Plenty of high-quality games come out of small development studios, so it's entirely possible.

I'm not going to vote because i have to say, this is getting out of hand really...
It's quite clear the Official 'HUD' isn't going to be included at any time in the near future...especially for F1 2017(And most likely 2018).

@jennyannem or any other Codemasters employees - Please can one of you make some sort of comment or reply about this and put this silliness to bed...?

Thats the problem, they dont make any clear point regarding the HUD and Therefore we keep hoping and asking Every year....
I agree...but every year has had the same outcome since 2010...no 'Official' HUD.
I'm all for you asking/requesting for certain items, as everyone here is entitled to do so; however it's the non stop barrage of comments/threads that is getting rather pointless as the facts speak for themselves.

I as well as you would like an Official statement regarding this, but like i've said before, if it hasn't happened for almost 9yrs then i hold out little hope for anything in the near future.

@jennyannem, @Britpoint, @Codies  -  Can anyone please provide any information regarding this subject...?  Why the silence?

and what about the possibility they don't have autorization to use it? Maybe FOM is just not giving that go on CM.

In that case we can understand it Will not be in game, but as they dont communicate with us we dont know what might be the reason

That's possible, but I haven't seen it publicly confirmed by CodeMasters and/or FOM. It would seem quite odd to me if a licensee would be granted permission to use the likenesses of nearly every other aspect of the sport (drivers, cars, crew/staff, manufacturers/brands/sponsors, tracks/circuits, regulations, etc.) except basic on-screen display elements. It's also possible that if they don't have the necessary permissions, it might only be because they have yet to simply ask for it. It might not be that FOM expressly forbids it, but rather CM just hasn't requested it.

Fake News. Stop talking about any points which are not right. Codemasters don't want it this year. There is a clear reaction by @jennyannem
How do you know its fake news, I haven't seen anything to say its fake, I have seen F1 putting it in licensing

I'm gonna do the same as I did with predicting it is not in 2017 and that is use common sense and than I want to leave this discussion all behind me until next year. :D  Like I have said before the FOM graphics are spectator mode. It's based on what is the information you want to see when you are watching a race. To make a driver's HUD you have to think from a driver perspective and think what is the information I need during the race and than build it down to what is most important and what is less important. You can't just tack FOM graphics on a screen and call it a HUD and that is my guess the problem they are dealing with in creating a FOM looking HUD.

From our couches it is easy to yell what they should be doing, because it seems very obvious what they should do but we don't have any experience in making video games Codemasters has years of experience. Some of the mock ups you guys made look rather nice but they all miss the driver perspective. They become too complicated to drive with. We all know what everything means otherwise we would not be on a F1 forum but someone new to F1 will be overwhelmed by all the information on the screen. So you have to make sure that someone who never watched an F1 race finds the information they need. A big lap counter, a big position indicator separates basic information from information that the advanced driver will want. Another thing that springs to mind is use of colors. In a previous post I said the race control messages could look like the official ones but can't be on the bottom of the screen because they block important information for advanced drivers using the steering wheel for information but I'm starting to doubt they can even look like the official one because they use the color red. I'm going back here to the amateur driver who doesn't see a race control message but a big warning sign because red is most often used to indicate danger. Even little details like that can be important to make a game that everyone can play

I'm just trying to give here a small example of how it could be possible that Codemasters is struggling with all of this to come up with a FOM looking HUD that looks nice and can be used for everyone who picks up the game. One thing I'm pretty sure about is that a FOM looking HUD will still differ a lot from the FOM graphics on TV.

So that's it for now. If you guys still think on making those example images try to think like someone who does not know anything about F1. Maybe you might come up with some good ideas but my biggest advice is let it go for now. Wait for the game to come out. Enjoy it and maybe it might inspire you to come up with new ideas later this year.

Thanks for your constructive and very detailed posting with your opinion about an official HUD.
I think we all made a big mistake in the past. The words "official" and "f1-broadcast style" are interpreted too much.
It's very clear that we can't get the original look as the FOM do on television. Of course Codemasters have to look from a driver perspective. Honestly there wouldn't be a lot changes between Codies HUD and f1-style HUD. We would get continue information about current tyres, your favourite positions which are possible to set to top 3 / top 5 etc. driver lap time, lap counter with the word LAP so that everybody knows what this counter indicates, your best lap time, current lap time and delta on the top and your settings included speedometer.
The only biggest change are the f1-style design.

Time for all to take a deep breath and focus on what is possible with 2017. Jenny has let us know they are considering it for future releases. Lets let this thread die for a while guys, be sensible. Lets help 2017 be an awesome game and get back to this later in the year. Good idea?

No. This should be considered throughout the whole year so they see what the fans really want instead of giving us MAJOR FEATURES like some old Cars where THEY think are worth 60 bucks... Official HUD is beeing mentioned for a long time now and we still didn't get any news from Codies why they don't want to do it.

Jenny has stated in another thread they are looking at doing the official HUD in future releases, just won't be 2017. We have been heard. For the love of god, calm down.
Im in favour of the official HUD massively (Im the guy who made the sky sport hud mods for previous games). We have multiple threads with massive response, no doubt they have heard us. There is no need to be hostile.
I think we should for the time being focus on the upcoming release.

I find it contradictory to tell people to stop discussing things on a discussion forum. Who is anyone to tell other people what they can & can't talk about? If a topic/thread does not interest you, simply ignore it & scroll past it instead of trying to silence those who are interested in discussing that topic. It's not hurting you or taking anything away from you - it's just harmless text on a screen, easy to skip.

Therefore we are going to discuss how many we want about this topic.

Its just tedius to read about people asking why there is no response from CM when we have had a response. That made me think we are chooks running around with heads removed and could be contributing elsewhere. How much can we say about the HUD that has not already been said, it's getting redundant and quite tedius to read about. My two cents.
For the time being I will focus my attention on what is available to us with 2017. You can continue this thread all you want I merely made a suggestion not to become hostile towards CM, they have listened.

We should make this discuss only for ideas and who think how it should be implemented in the game. Screenshot etc.
But i think everything is said about the HUD. It's a forward step that they have this topic on their list :)

Yeah but that's marketing isn't it? You wouldn't say you definitely cant do it next year, you want the 60 bucks this year AND next year. Every year we have polls up for the game coming out after the game about to come out. And we forget the mess they left in the games we are currently playing. They must spend so much time laughing at us  ;)

I'd also like to add that creating a poll suggesting a new feature is likely to gain a positive response. Everyone wants more, not less content. When planning the development of a yearly title they're obviously short on time and have to roadmap the development. I'm not surprised the HUD is down on their list of things to do, it's really minor.

Exactly that's why in my case this year I want to see what my money is going towards in terms  of the career mode before I commit.

No I dont stop complaining ! Its really clear what their customers want, but they dont care us... We are just stupid customers buying their games anyway so why would the take effort to implement features we really would like to have. Release date is just two months away and still no main features or gameplay. Its very clear now classic cars is their main goal for this years game.

The HUD is very cartoonish, like the safety car picture, awfull really!!!

Please stop b*tching about the hud because Codies clearly do listen to the community and you're just butt hurt about one minor thing. I'm pretty sure people want a game not a design and if you could stop complaining I'll let you in on a little secret ;) Codies are looking to put the hud in 2018

No spectator HUD design in singleplayer mode for F1 2017. This opens the F1 2018 HUD discussion.
Most of your customers at this forum want the official HUD for years. Jennyannem gave us Some new hope several months ago by replying that the official HUD is a feature to look for in the feature. Feel free to share your ideas about the official HUD
