T-CAM (ONBOARD) VIEW

Recommended Posts

For whatever reason the onboard view (t-cam) looks very different compared to the real onboard views.

- driver helmet is too far back / too much space between the steering wheel and driver
- cockpit is too narrow
- tires are too bulky / wide / have a strange angle
- wheelbase is too narrow
- missing details like ( foam around the knees )
- Toro Rosso: steering wheel is very small

Of course we would have our own camera setting, but we will never be able to reach the original onboard (t-cam) view due to the missing basis.
For this reason this things should be fixed @jennyannem @Britpoint

I understand what you're saying, but I think this is the closest Codies has gotten yet with the default settings.

You say the toro rosso wheel is a lot smaller. but what it actually is, is the fov is a lot wider and the camera is set a lot further away

This is the correct answer, although those tyres do look a bit square and the driver is sitting too far back.

You are a little OCD aren't you

Well 2016 gave players the new camera adjustment feature so players can replicate the offset onboard camera as close to what It is on TV I liked that feature from 2016 hopefully they have brought it back in f1 2017. Personally the offset camera angle is my favorite view.

Purely from a graphics point of view, narrow cockpit and ugly bulging tyres (closer to the rear view mirror) have been a mainstay since F1 2010.  It's hard to fathom why they can't get the perspective camera view right in 8 attempts. The tyres need to be a shade less thicker without the ugly distortion already mentioned, the monocoque and the suspension area a tad wider and a corresponding increase in steering wheel/glove size to match the real on-boards. Same with the cockpit view... Also, a smoother cockpit steering animation to match the T-cam animation would be nice too.

Have always wanted to bring this up for ages (years) now but thought the better of it.

I think the t cam offset looks great but the central version alot of us like is too far forward not enough car in it and it makes the cars look very 16ish

Yes, they did, but it was simply impossible to replicate the real camera angle on a 1 to 1 scale in F1 2016 unfortunately.

Easy solution:

Codemasters could offer the official "real life" camera angles as a default but keeps the customization option in the game, so that those who want a different angle can achieve that easily.

This way everyone would get what they want and Codies would be 1 step closer to creating a actual "official" F1 representation for once.

--------------------

Also speaking of officiality, why is there still no leg protection visibly placed in the cockpit?

The little details still get ignored?!

To be totally honest it's absolutely ridiculous that people have been suggesting so many ideas and have given so much constructive criticism since F1 2010 released and that even now in 2017 a huge portion of those ideas have not been correctly implented yet.....

At least nowadays Codies slowly are opening up a bit, unlike in the past where almost no conversation was going on between the fanbase and Codemasters and seeing as Liberty Media are now in charge only good can come up in the near future.

These are your best graphics so far imho.

Keep up the good work mate, if constructive criticism is given in the form that you have shown so many times, how could anyone just come up and denounce your efforts?

Anyways hopefully Codies does take a look into it this time for F1 2018.

--------------------

Speaking of F1 2018, if people have suggestions and or any great ideas now is the time to post them on this forum, if we wait once again if we become apathetic once again, the devs won't get the general glimpse on what the community has got in petto.

That's how business works, only if the community actively demands specific features, the company will take a look into it.

So mates don't forget to just become actively vocal, if you have some good ol' constructive criticism to share that is!

Soluction (OFFSET LATERAL):

Thanks, Codemasters!
I see "head tracking" and "look to apex" there as well, if it is what PCars has then Codies has done a good job in the camera customization options this time.

Only thing still missing in the many angles of the camera is a proper helmet cam.

Cheers for sharing mate!

Yes, for the first time we will have T-CAM, as in TV, we can edit in our way with all possibilities of direction.

It remains to be seen whether those additional camera settings introduce even more distortions than now. Also,  nothing changes the fact that the tyres are way too wide in proportion to the rather narrow cockpit and suspension area. If a real camera can render the correct representation of whatever's been captured without those distortions/warping, there's no reason it can't be replicated in-game. This is 21st century tech we're talking about after all.

It's the real camera that's doing the warping. All optical lenses cause some amount of warping the further you get from the centre of the image, because lenses have to be curved to work.

Come to think of it, you're right. To tell you the truth, we will have more capacity to approach the reality of T-cam, Because we can decrease the distance from the camera to the center, as it really is. Now we can edit in X, Y, and Z axis...

I'm not getting into the technicalities of camera optics. Going by what you said, why don't we see any warping on the real onboard shots in the OP, or any other for that matter. A little distortion may be unavoidable but what we've been seeing is exaggerated warping closer to the rear view mirror. It bulges out like a barrel. The camera lens would have to have a really large curvature to produce such a warp. And, the warping (too many mentions :# ) only seems to affect the tyres not the rest of the car -- mirrors, cockpit etc.-- , which to me suggests a flaw in the actual tyre modelling or perspective projection (whatever you call it). The off board shots also show curved edges unlike the real ones which are squarer. It also doesn't help that the tyres are way too thick in proportion to the rest of the body work.

Honestly, I don't even notice any of this when driving. But when watching back an onboard replay it's all too apparent. Personally, I've always loved watching F1 onboards. May be it all stems from that. :p

@CavSTiago
One can only hope all those additional options can do the trick for us sticklers for details.

This is merely a suggestion for improvement in future titles and in no way meant to be a CM bashing topic...
