What happens when a driver crashes and the car catches fire with the new halo implementation?

Recommended Posts

I know it's not game related but had to ask....have the FIA considered this? If the car is on fire the halo will make it even harder to get out of

They have ofc considered this. I can't actly remember the explanation they gave. I believe it says in this post: http://www.fia.com/news/f1-why-halo-best-solution.

Another point I just thought of aswell. Is a lot of their overalls can last around a minute under flames, before it actually reaches the driver underneath. So it's quite common ofcourse for fire to comeout the airbox above the drivers head, but they might feel their back get a bit warm when climbing out but that's about it. The overalls won't catch fire. I believe I read somewhere that the overalls won't catch alight, however after around a minute they will probably start to melt. Luckily again for the driver they have 2 layers for it to get thru aswell.

fire is not a concern they also have a fire supressing system inside the cockpit in the event of the driver been engulfed by flames they can deploy this when needed.

yeah plus the marshals are equipped with fire extinguishers as well and will always be quick on the scene in those instances

In some instances the halo is believed to actually help (by lifting the car higher off the floor and allowing greater exit space for the driver).  The medics car is also equipped with a cutting tool in case it needs to be cut.  The cars have also been improved with regards fire retardant materials (as standard every year).
