So We cannot see the fuel number clearly?

Recommended Posts

Screenshots were taken from Cal and Aarav's video.

Apparently the first one is +0.46 Laps, it was taken from Cal's video.

Next two from Aarav's video, you can barely recognize the fuel number on the HUD when you are minus on fuel, at least on the videos. When it turns green, clearly it is +0.01 Laps.

I never played the game so I don't know how it looks like directly in the game, but it at least affects people watching all these great career mode videos on Youtube.

I can see the +0.46 and +0.01 clear as day, I'm struggling to read the minuses though.

On a side note, I've not watched part 2 of Aarav's career but I can see from the screenshots that there's been 3 retirements.  There was also quite a few in his Australian GP - are retirements going to be more common?  I could go through 3 or 4 races in F1 2016 and not have a singular retirement!

Exactly, there are 2-4 retirements purely due to mechanical failure in the first race or two in almost every Youtuber's career modes.

It almost made me think of Motorsport Manager PC game, when you start a new season, the reliability is awful for almost every team, and there is a high chance that 4-5 cars will retire in the first race, and the number generally decreases as the season goes on, because every team can improve the reliability of the car.

Don't know if it will be the same case for F1 2017, but if the number of retirements gradually decreases then it is acceptable. If it is purely random then Codemasters have to sort it out.

During the beta I didn't have any problems but when it went red it was a bit difficult to see especially when trying to focus on a race. It was an issue that was raised so maybe we'll see a return to white numbers in the future.

Returning to white is a good option.

I've not looked at it that way before, that'll be quite a neat feature if reliability gets better as the season goes on.

I suppose it's difficult to find that happy medium, I think 4 - 5 retirements every race would be way too much but yet again having 3 or 4 GP's with no retirements is far too few.

Well it seems completely random as of F1 2016.

Didn't remember any stats about retirements, but one of my friends had 9 wet races in a row yet another had no until Malaysia LOL.

This was reported in the beta. From what I remember personally, it depends on camera settings and also where u are on track, time of day etc... The green is fine but the red might need to be sorted as it isn't rly visible on low light conditions. It all also depends on monitor colours spectrum and so on. Say codemasters have probably got monitors that have the colours as correct as possible with an ips panel, probably not hdr but u get what I mean. So sometimes it can be very hard to get something like this right across the board. None the less, it has been an issue brought up by quite a few people now, so I don't see a reason for it not to be fixed.

Those videos aren't of the highest quality but imo red is a poor choice of colour given its place on the light spectrum and how easily it can be obscured by background colours and ambient lighting effects.

Agreed...how the developer who implemented this and tested to see if it correctly switched to red not see it is very hard to read is beyond me.

Orange would've been better, yellow probably best...

I also suggested during the beta that inverse video might be a better option, i.e. black text on a green or red/orange rectangular background.

Why have a colour at all?  Just leave it white - anyone can differentiate between a + and a  -

When you're sitting 6 feet away from the screen like I generally have to when I'm playing, the numbers are too small to read when you're focusing on the track, let alone the sign in front of them. The colour is very useful to me to know at a glance whether I need to start saving fuel or not.

I kind of see your point although I would never wait until I was in the red to start saving fuel.

Perhaps a coloured circle, square or petrol icon before or after the figure would work.

The number of retirements looks realistic compared to real-life.

Well it seems all of them are mechanic failures, none of them are caused by contact.

I'd imagine yes we may well see more retirements now due to the parts management side of the game now but I agree about the fuel levels it was difficult to see the negative ones. Hopefully it's just youtube being a bit awkward if not I'm sure CM will patch something in later. Because I know that sometimes youtube does do things like that because it runs on different settings due to being a video host provider
