Engine/Gearbox management

Recommended Posts

Just a quick question on the management rule. Can I run a old engine in practice and then a new one for quali and the race? Or same do I have to run the same one all weekend?

You a free to change between all the engines you currently have at any time. Penalties are for adding a 5th, 6th unit etc

Awesome thanks. I must have a bug then cause I keep getting grid penalties for switching between my number 1 and number 2 engines

Are you actually allowed to change PU parts between qualy and the race without penalty? I thought this wasn't allowed in real due to Parc Ferme, but the game tells you there'll be no penalty for doing it, though If I remember correctly I actually did get one without warning when doing so.. will have to try again, possible UI bug @jennyannem ? Another small issue is the game never tells you what the penalty consists of ( how many places ) when changing PU/gearbox, it just mentions 'a penalty'

I believe in real life once qualifying starts you can't. I think you have to take the car out of parc ferme and start from the pit lane (no grid penalty).

We have to remember this is a GAME. It's ok for Codemasters to relax on some of the rules to make it a little more enjoyable!

Immersion. Career players need the rules enforcing correctly, plus the engine wear and penalties is known bugged.

You are allowed 4 of all the component parts of the PU without penalty.

You can swap freely in or after practice but changes after parc ferme (rolling out in quali to start of race) is penalised.

The game allows up to 6 components of each but more are needed there is in theory no limit but penalties will be applied.

Currently the game sometimes resets wear on swapped out components.

Well, yes but it looks like the penalties for changing during/after qualy are actually in the game, it's just the game doesn't tell you this while changing components and you get penalized without warning. I've had this at least once, but will have to try again to check if it always happens.
