Just bought a wheel... now for settings/assists...

Recommended Posts

so after getting help from this forum (thank you :) ) I bought the G29 for my pc.  I haven't had time to play just yet but i want a realistic feel and to be challenged.

What assists and settings do you recommend? Camera settings etc

Congrats on your purchase :)

Which assists did you use on pad, or are you completely new to the F1 games? Some people will probably say it's best to go cold turkey and switch everything off, but I'd be more inclined to say start with whatever assists you use already, and turn them off gradually. If you came from playing with a pad, you certainly shouldn't need to turn any assists on that you didn't have turned on before.

If you use automatic gears, switching to manual is probably the biggest adjustment (but much easier to do on a wheel than on a pad, imho), so I'd turn those off first. Keep the suggested gear indicator on if you like while you get started, but personally I find I'm usually too busy watching the track to look at it, and/or its suggestions don't really match my driving style.

After that, I'd probably turn off any braking assists that you use (it's really not that hard to apply the brakes on this year's cars without locking up), and traction control last.

Camera choice is very subjective. Purists will always say anything other than cockpit view is at best "unrealistic" and at worst "cheating", but personally I find it unrealistically restrictive without a a triple screen setup (or a single screen with eye tracking)... though the look-to-apex setting in this year's game helps with that a bit. TV Pod view is by far the most commonly used though, and probably the best compromise for a single screen player.
