Lets Talk setups

Recommended Posts

ok im one whos quite happy tinkering with a setup hot lapping for hours on end,
for the most part i find the setup does not do a lot but it is enough to keep me tinkering, kind of what i expected from codies and i am aware its not a sim,
One of the main things you can do to the car to alter the balance is play with the ballast and the wing,

Finding a balance in the setup is not to difficult and when its just right i find the car feels great to drive.....but
this is not the fastest way around the track!
From what i can see from other setups around (and in my own testing) people are throwing the ballast to the rear and removing front wing angle,
Now what this seems to do is create a over steering  monster with the lower front wing angle seemingly balancing things out certain corners, This gives serious amount of unreal mechanical grip,
the fast left right hander at Melbourne show this perfectly,
You should not simply be able to get round that section so fast, i think codies know this and thats why you can gain massive amounts time there in practice programs and the ai are seeming slow through there,

i know its a game and its the same for everyone but seems a shame that this little exploit ruins what feels a nice handling model this year,
Every sim ive ever played you always have more front wing than the rear in a setup, it aids braking,
Test for your self, add more front wing than the rear by 2/3 clicks and put the ballast to the front, the brakes feel great
When you go the other way it feels horrid imo and i would expect the car to just spin out of control with weight at the rear and no front grip coming from the wing,

Food for thought perhaps......... would be great to hear others opinion on this
Cheers all

11/1 is still a running joke in many leagues. If anyone asks for ANY setup tip - pressures, wings, gearbox - they getting told 11/1.

The setups can be oversteery but to be honest 2016 the way to be fast without assists was to slide the car.  For this game you get punished for sliding it around and lose tons of time.  Most of the high leaderboard setups without assists never go more than 6-8 ballast and the front wing to rear wing ratios are very close.  .  The lower front wing can counter act some of that ballast, but you will lose a lot of turn in.

Now people with assists can probably abuse this stuff is what I am guessing.  I am already seeing tons of hight brake pressure and front brake bias that is not possible at all without assists.  Same goes for absurdly low wings.

Look at this guy who is a monster on the wheel and his setup is really fairly balanced at least here at australia.  Notice that you do not hear that much wheel screech of the car sliding around.

Will try that setup later but I notice it's on console,
I was talking to one guy who who was quite high up on the leader boards on pc and he told me to stay away from console setups as they just dont work on pc,
his setups were more on the extreme side (8 ballast on the rear) and low and behold with his setup I posted my fastest time,
Seems werid why they would be different across platforms but he had a point,

Yeah I don't use assists Nick, maybe even worse then like you say but I've not tested that.

Cheers

Edit ha ha yeah fractured I remember those day but back then I felt the setups did absolutely nothing for the feel of the car and these were just magic values that made people fast, along with 50 fps of course lol

He's not a monster if he has to rely on T-Cam. :P
