NAJ263
After playing the game for a while, i noticed a regular occurrence of lag spikes, in terms of FPS and FFB. This is very frustrating as the PC i have should be capable of running this game as i never had issues of F1 2016. I Have 24gb of ram, and i5 4430 @3.20GHz and a GTX 1070 G1 Gaming. I have monitored the CPU and GPU usage with MSI afterburner and the GPU usage on reaches around 30 - 40% and CPU is at 70% - 80%, but when the spikes occur that % lower to around 10. I have tried the game ready Nvidia Driver and 2 previous ones with no success in fixing the spikes I have also tries lowering the graphics settings with no improvement . The Force Feedback is also affected During These lag spikes. The Wheel is a G920. I have no issues in other games and i have tested the GPU and its performance matches or beats other 1070 cards. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing the spikes in performance?
Codemasters Staff F1Support Posted September 1, 2017 Codemasters Staff Share Posted September 1, 2017 Hi @NAJ263, it's interesting that you're seeing spikes occur when CPU and GPU usage goes down. That suggests that something else is suddenly taking all of the cores on your CPU and stopping them from processing the game for a brief time. Are you able to see what's running on those cores when this happens?
NAJ263
F1 takes up most of the CPU usage at around 50-60% (that is lower than last years game), the next highest is windows audio device graph isolation and Discord at around 3-4% as shown on task manager. The total load on the CPU never goes above 80% and the load on all cores is almost identical.
Codemasters Staff F1Support Posted September 1, 2017 Codemasters Staff Share Posted September 1, 2017 I'm interested specifically what uses the most CPU when F1 usage drops. That's what's causing the stall.
NAJ263
F1 is still using the most CPU when it lags but since your last message, i cannot get it to reproduce the issue like i was yesterday or earlier
NAJ263
The CPU usage and GPU usage for F1 stay around 50% now but during the spikes the GPU sometimes maxes out at 100% or Drops to 30% where as the CPU now only drops 2 or 3%. it seems like the GPU is being suspended rather than the CPU. NAJ263
No application seems to stand out when the Spike occurs either. The only new thing i have noticed is when the game launches Nvidia overlay says i can uses ansel, when i try to use it the overlay tells me ansel is not available. NAJ263
When using MSI Afterburner to monitor, the game lags and the limitation becomes NO LOAD rather than Voltage. i dont know if this helps but i have only just noticed
NAJ263
I have fixed the issue by moving the game to the SSD with windows on it rather than my games SSD. I dont know if this could affect performance but it has fixed the issue for me.
NAJ263
After reformatting my whole pc, the game still drops below 60fps for no reason. causing the whole game to slow down. there is no noticable change in CPU usage on task manager, it just seems the game refuses to run 60fps consistenly. This is Very annoying and i can now only point blame at the game as it is the only game that does it.
NAJ263
looking further into this the spikes occur mainly on pit straights. more particularly on time trial when sending internet packets to steam such as lap time info
NAJ263
interestingly enough disabling the internet adapter on my pc has stopped the spikes from happening. I wonder if this is a BUG?
AdiosTheMokos
I can confirm that I see this behaviour too. Whenever I cross the timing line after setting a fastest lap, I get a severe drop in performance for about 2 seconds.
