Difference in difficulty between Race and Qualy

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I've got a problem with the difficulty slider. It may have to do with the simulated lap times in qualification, but I'm not sure about that.

For me, there is a massive difference in difficulty between qualification and the race. For qualy, I use 92 and finish ahead or behind my teammate by some tenths, so it's pretty good. In the race though, I'm just so much faster. With 92, I always finish more than 30 seconds ahead of my teammate and often finish 3rd or 4th (in the Renault). So I have to change the difficulty slider to 97 before the race to have somewhat of a challenge in the race.

In my eyes, the gap in difficulty between Race and qualification is too big.

Anyone else having this problem?

It's definitely because of the simulated times in qualy being too fast, though I've heard they're looking into it and it will be better balanced in a patch soon. I'm using one shot qualy to avoid that problem and the balance between qualifying and race pace is spot on that way; I usually qualify within a tenth of my team mate and battle him throughout the race on the same difficulty setting. Maybe try doing OSQ with the slider set to 97 and see how it goes!

I haved the same problem but i try  the one shot qualy yesterday and it worked fine to me.
Same difficulty level in qualification and in the race. AI 85%

Okay, I see I'm not alone here. Hoping for a quick fix by Codemasters here. Along with the fact that AI isn't pitting when the SC is out, this is by far my biggest problem with the game. Would be an awesome game if this is fixed.

I could notice that the Qualify demands that you makea perfect lap for the difficulty choosed. On Australia, a GP that I have some difficulties to make perfect laps, i'm always 0,3s or 0,5s behing my teammate or other rival cars. But on Austria, my favorite GP, i can beat easily my teammate and others that compete same positions with me.

I liked that because thats exaclty what happens on real life. On Qualify you need to be perfect.

But this is happen on Free Practice. It's impossible beat IA. Almost 1s behind. There's a bug for sure.

Can't agree here. 97 is what I have for races. If I use 97 for Qualifying, I'm around 1 second slower than my teammate. Has nothing to do with a perfect lap.

AI behaves completely different on multiplayer. They are more aggressive and it is harder to overtake. Playing on the same difficulty (85) and there is a huge difference between how they behave on track. I like multiplayer behavior , it is more realistic. Off-line I feel I have to turn up the difficulty

Yeah noticed that too. Very often. I run Short Qualy now and watch every lap of my teammate/rival from the box monitor to beat them. Works pretty good. But ofc no option if you are in a front runner team and you need to watch 4 cars or something like that at the same time :)

You need to push harder on Qualify. Its just IA pushing really hard. It's very hard, but it's doable. You will need a perfect lap. And it's very realistic and challenge.

Sometimes I beat my teammate, sometimes i'm beated. For me is awesome in this way!!!

But since there's a lot of people disliking this, they should put a option to make IA a little easier on Qualify.

PC, 100% difficulty, no assists.

ps.: People are saying that TC ON is a little slower than TC OFF or TC Medium. That would make difference.

ps2.: People are saying there's a bug on Qualify times when you use flying lap, fast fowarding or quit to garage. I didnt notice this, but they seen to be very right about it. They saying that IA put some fake laps when we use these features.

agree... i'm also on pc, 100& difficulty, few assists^^.
no problem to beat my teammate, even when h's times are simulated at the end of the session... I beat him in Austin by 2 tenth... in Brasil i even beat him by 0.6 seconds... both times he got simulated laptimes, and in the race both times he was much closer to me, if not even a little faster...

Not going to bother to explain the problem again. And it's really not about being able to beat the teammate.

So explain how I could bet my teammate using the same difficulty than you? The assists could explain why you cannot be able to maximize your performance. And i'm not cuting track or anything. If you want, I can take a screenshot on Melbourne or Austria tomorrow.

I'm not saying that you're a bad gamer, nothing like that. Don't get me wrong!

I didnt notice these fake laps, I will pay attention today. On Austria I can beat easily my teammate as well, 0,5 gap. I cant say the same for Australia lol.

it doesnt matter if this one kid dont understand the bug because literally everyone is complaining about the AI being too fast in practice/qualifying its been a bug since day one with the many many other bugs and this is ridiculous its not on patch note or mentioned anywhere...

I have data to prove that is possible to beat IA on Qualify. You can say whataver you want, what you saying prove nothings. My data will prove. In 5 or 7 hours I will be home and I will post.

Sorry to say. You're slow, only that.

Jesus... I AM able to beat my teammate in qualifying, it's just when I am able to do that, the race becomes way too easy. So if I set a difficulty in which the race becomes a challenge for me, the qualifying times are absolutely out of reach for me. Qualifying pace and race pace don't match, at least for me and apparantly I'm not alone.

Nobody cares if you're able to beat your teammate, as that is not what this thread is about.
Shouldn't be too hard to grasp. And that you're able to beat your teammate on the same difficulty as me shows that you're a better driver than me, but still, it doesn't matter here.

So if you still don't understand the problem, just stop posting here because then you're probably just not smart enough to contribute anything of worth.

I just always race 7-10 higher on the slider than qualifying depending on my skill at the track, and that seems to work out well... as realism goes.

This desperately needs to be fixed, I consistently qualify 15th or lower and finish the race on the podium or even win. Sure, I drive a Red Bull, but I shouldn't be able to go from 20th to 3rd within like 5 laps.. while I get outqualified by a McLaren and Sauber.

Yup, same here. Just leaving a comment so that Codies see that it's an issue.

I drive for Haas in my career on 95% difficult and usually qualify in the midfield (just, which is the way it should be on that difficulty) but then in the race I easily finish 5th/6th ahead of all faster teams, like RB, FI, Williams.

Looking forward to the patch if that's true.

I will also attest to this being an issue. The AI in FP and quali is way faster than in the race. It needs fixing. The AI needs to be consistent across all sessions.

Confirmed.
Renault in career 85% AI, similar cars are way tooo fast in practice. Closer in qualy but then the simulated times are like a second faster and get kicked out of Q1 or 2

In the race I catch them all and finish around 8th 7th or 6th
