High Disk Usage

Recommended Posts

Ok before i start i will be looking to get a ssd but for now maybe someone will be able to help,

So like many others ive been trying to find a cure for my freeze frames issues with a 1070 card,
I have just completed a career race and it was really unbearable at times,
I decided to boot up task manager afterwards while the game was still active and found the disk usage was 99%,
Maybe the cause of my issues me thinks but then i tried testing again in time trial (re booted game) and the issue was not apparent also the game was running smooth,
Maybe its because of lengthy periods of play, that would explain whey some times its ok, im not sure to be honest but i can say i dont have this issue in any other game,

Any suggestions to maybe solving this issue before i splash out on a ssd, i know im long over due one but with other games being ok maybe there is a solution,

Cheers All

99% disk usage doesn't mean the controller bandwidth is at 99% fortunately. It's an incredibly bad metric used by Task Manager, just means it's in use 99% of the time, which with various Windows processes means it's probably active quite a bit.
The fact you can put the game in another mode and it goes lower again doesn't mean there's a problem. Pagefile usage pretty much accounts for it and you get pagefile usage even when there's adequate memory.
If you are concerned about your disk, run a manufacturer utility or a benchmark like CrystalDisk but I'm pretty sure this isn't an avenue worth pursuing.
People suggested turning off Superfetch to cure issues too and while this will reduce disk activity from this service, it won't improve game performance either.
Getting an SSD means an end to defragging though, which might give a marginal improvement depending on which files are fragmented, so that's not a wonder fix either.
Edit: apart from the obvious and huge difference if file access times compared to a spinner! Just that defrag will give maybe marginal gains on a 'normal' HDD. :)
