Thanks Codemasters

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My 1st post here. And in between all the bug related talk, I just wanted to thank Codemasters for this awesome game. So, THANKS! Have enjoyed a lot of your games, all the way back to the TOCA series :).

I'm enjoying the hell out of F1 2017. Playing career mode in Toro Rosse on 50% race length, full qualifying and 95% AI level. Yes my qualifying results are heavily affected when I fast forward. Yes there are other bugs that affect my and the AI driving and results. And I can either let them frustrate me, or just try to "race my way around" for now. The new handling model fits my driving style much better. Last years game was already a step up from F1 2015 and I enjoyed my career mode and occasional time trial. Now i'm loving my Toro Rosso career. Because i'm playing so much and start to get the hang of it, i've been able to raise the AI level to 95% and get podiums and even a lucky win in dry-wet-dry conditions (better strategy). So it's time to raise it further and take away Medium TC. This game is pushing me to up my game and makes me want to get better and more consistent. Like the PGR games could make me do, going for All Platinum in PGR 2 for example. A very tough but fair challenge which was so very rewarding to achieve. It is just awesome to go through the 50% races, "read" the race and adjust strategy and tire/fuel management to my driving style. With these new regulations track position is everything and it is reflected in the game very well. AI is better then last year, but sometimes still a bit twitchy pushing you off the straights from the back while passing.

At the same time the practice challenges have been improved a lot. Less of a chore, more "to the point". Lap times in training are slower vs my position in Q and the race so I just let those be. Using the practices and practice programs to set up the car, get a good feel for the track and balance and check if my long run pace is OK. Collect as many R&D points as I can with as little wear on the car as possible (i'm bad at this it seems). Then off to Qualifying.

The R&D aspect is awesome too. At the moment the 6th race is coming and am already at the better part of my 2nd engine and it's components. Until now my focus has been on catching up to Renault, Force India and Williams in performance, but soon it will shift to reliability in order to not to have to take heaps of penalties in the 2nd half of the season and next season.

This game looks great in 4K/HDR. It is a night and day difference compared to F1 2016. All the detail comes out much better and the lighting  has improved a lot with the HDR. Overcast weather is looking much more lifelike, reflections of the cars and metals look awesome and wet weather is really good looking now.

Then i'm playing on the Logitech G29 and with F1 2016 it was OK, but often not worth my while to get it out and setup infront of the TV. Now the FFB feels so more controlled and precise. It is a joy to feel to what level I can push and get closer to the limit. The game is pushing me to up my game in general, be consistent, strategic and fast and makes me think and enjoy short vs long term choices much more then the last 2 games.

I sincerely hope you guys get on top of the bugs and challenges we all are experiencing, soon. So everyone can enjoy this game in his/her way, as much as I am already doing now B). Big thumbs up and keep going and improving!

Regardless the bugs and glitches, is the best racing experience for me in life. By far, very, very far.

Thanks for this game, Codemasters. Rrally.

Going to add my voice of support for the game here too. I'm absolutely loving it so far on PC.
The bug with the AI posting bulls**t lap times in Practice and Qualifying is irritating as hell but it's about the only complaint I have. I'm sure once they iron out most of the initial issues (most of which they've resolved already) this will be next on their list of fixes.

Thanks for this years F1 release guys! Absolutely loving the classic cars, the R&D tree, the visuals are outstanding on PC and overall the game plays really well. Nice job!
