Project CARS

Recommended Posts

ive not really looked into it but it looks like a really poorly made game with only 6/7 tracks.

also it's using a physics system similar to NFS Shift, which is probably the worst physics engine I've ever played with on a racing game.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Is this the beta version or the final release in November ?

Project Cars looks good. I guess my main concern at the moment is whether or not it is a sim or has simcade handling options.

I am quite serious about racing games - pretty much all I do on the PS3, but I am not sure that I want to move to a wheel. If PCars is unplayable with the controller then it will probably not be for me. I want something with good next gen graphics but Grid Autosport style handling.

What are you on about? I've been with it since the start. It has loads of tracks, more than say GT 6. It has loads and also karting tracks which are fun. If you don't know anything about it why create a thread spreading false information? It takes a few seconds to search what content it has.

The physics are nothing like nfs, it's very similar to others sims and is in no way a arcade game.

seems like a troll to me

I absolutely hate NFS Shift's physics engine so if that's the case I'll just wait for GT7 or the follow up to GAS to come out before I move to next gen.

Dont get me wrong, PCars looks beautiful but there's a difference if the game plays dreadful.

It doesn't use anything from nfs... It's very much a sim and uses a totally different engine. Really stop trolling. It's very easy to search info

There's your problem.
Hence why I've posted this thread
Then do some research on your own before making your opinion.

The game has more tracks than most games, see video below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCvpo9Cuk3g

It's not using the same physics system as NFS Shift. It's more in the realms of GT/Forza than iRacing/rFactor/Assetto Corsa. Going to have to wait until I play before I can say if the physics are good, but graphically it's amazing to look at.

Seriously, just browse YouTube for PCars videos and you'll find out more than from this thread.

Problem is handling is a very subjective thing and can make or break a game for me.

I started out racing on Dirt 3 and put an awful lot of hours into that. I also did a fair bit on Dirt 2. Dirt I have tried but the handling model didn't work for me so well.

Moving onto GT6, I don't mind it as a game. I don't think anyone could really call GT6 a bad game. But it lacked for me in some areas. It lacks the sensation of speed that something like Grid Autosport has, and for some reason I always make the car tyres squeal when going round the corners which irritates me a bit.

I suppose I spend a lot of time playing codemasters games, which makes me prefer codemasters handling more.

I think for PCars the move to console could be interesting, as if you want sales on the console surely you need to be able to handle the cars well with a controller. If Pcars is more sim and doesn't allow good controller handling that could have some sales impact.

GT6 is a bad "game", it's a good "Driving experience" but the actual game and features is terrible. GT5, heck, even GT4 is better than GT6. I imagine that PCars will be near to the driving of GT, as it's joining as a "sim" game. It seems you like arcade type racing more than sims, but you don't say what type of racing. Try NFS, or another new racer that's coming out called The Crew

The Crew is more of an open-world frickaround game. Lots of fun but you might not get the racing experience from it.

I might try the NFS it should be possible for me to pick up something on the cheap to see whether I like the handling or not - thanks.
Do you have an opinion on which is the best one ?

I don't want to put too much of a downer on GT6 because it is a huge game and has lots of options, but for me it doesn't achieve the same level of excitement as booting a hypercar round paris or Chicago does in GA.

True, but there isn't that many games on the market that are going to offer the handling that he's asking for and the sense of speed

Wiki has a a habit of being somewhat unreliable with regards info on things that haven't happened yet which is generally why I ignore it when it comes to things like this. My advice is read what info people have put on the games forums and watch the youtube vids and make your own mind up. Don't rely on Wiki for answers as I've found in the past it'll often give you the wrong ones.

Yeah I've realised that now. Watched about an hours worth of YouTube videos and any game with a Mk 1 Escort in it is worth buying.

Nah ah but seriously, the game looks amazing, tempted to buy a PS4 just for PCars.

Just had a look at the Lotus 49 round the vintage spa track. Spa historic looks like one hell of a track.

Spa in all the configurations is very good. I've always enjoyed racing there  saw the old classic Hockenheimring on that list too looking forward to blasting through the forests again there too.

Really wish there was a demo for the PS4, just to get an idea of the handling. Assuming the PS4 controller has been given the TLC it needs during development, there shouldn't be any issues. I hope.

Sorry for calling you a troll :# Thought you came here to moan even when people said otherwise. Trust me it's a great sim. They were working with EA before and weren't allowed to create a sim hence leaving them. EA kept all the the data meaning SMS couldn't use any of it for Pcars so they had to start over. Even after the first build it felt nothing like Shift. It still has a long way to go in my eyes as there's a lot of strange bugs, so I'm not sure how it's going to be on consoles by November. Personally I think it'll get delayed. The tracks and cars are awesome, there's many many tracks, but not 100s of cars like GT6 but I prefer to have less cars if it means more tracks.
