AI strategy is making this game unenjoyable

Recommended Posts

They have scheduled pit stops on lap let's say 11 or 12. Rain is forecasted in 10-15 minutes after the race start. On lap 10 or 11 it starts to drizzle and they won't stretch their stint for a lap or two, but they will pit on lap 11. On lap 13 they pit again to put on intermediate.

It's the same with SC. Scheduled pit stops on lap 11, SC comes out on lap 8 or 9, goes in on lap 10 or 11. They wont take the practicaly free pit stop under the safety car, they will wait until the SC returns to pits, then they will pit one lap after the SC.

I'm racing for Sauber and this is just unenjoyable. Couple the rain with SC and you get easy wins everytime. With Sauber. You manage to go entire race with one pit stop, they have 2 or 3 at the most inappropriate time because they're acting like idiots.

I've found that it's a much more enjoyable experience with Safety Car turned off. Yeah, it's less realistic, but it's also less buggy.

The thing is though we shouldn't have to turn off a main feature to prevent a bug from happening.

What race length are you doing. These issue are much worse for shorter races and the cost for pitting is so much greater. I do 50% and it seems to help as cars have time to catch up if have quicker pace. Unless they find a way to make pit stops take 25% of the time then this will always be an issue

I also do 50%. And yes, they catch up to Sauber pretty quickly, but still, somethimes they f*** up so much it's just to much for them to pass me, with a little bit of defending the win is easily achievable. Especially since  in some corners the AI is driving like a 95 years old granpa in Fiat Panda. At 100% the final results would probably be more 'realistic' but still...

Agree. AI may be more competitive, but they're worse than ever when it comes to strategy.

One step for-,  two steps backwards.

really disappointed at how far this game has gone downhill from F1 2016, bugs a bigger than ever, this reminds me of 2011 game release.....after 2010........the graphics in 2011 was OMG

AI simply are not human though. It’s probably not easy to build a reactive strategy controller for each car. Only solution would be let the AI know ahead of the exactly which lap it will rain so the game can make its strategy around that, but that would result in the AI making perfect calls for strategy every time.

The only thing I wish we could do is call our teammate’s strategy as well at the race start. It’s stupid when they decide to do like a 2 stop at Monaco and end up dead last when they could finish in the points

Have to agree on the last game ai would pit under safety car not all but some and it felt a lot more mixed up on strategy, now i get falsely high finishing positions due to ai not deviating from their set stops and it's really frustrating when your trying to at least achieve some sort of realistic finishing positions within a career

Its pretty random for me!

In 50% - 100% races the AI often pits under SC but on 25% races .. horrible. The only solution for me is to NOT pit and not gain a massive advantage. But well .. not optimal to say the least.

I've done a whole season on 100% never seen a single ai pit under the safety car,  and to not pit yourself or turn safety car off of any other fixes shouldn't have to be done that's the whole point in playing f1 is for the things like safety car strategy without it you might aswell not be playing f1

The worst thing is there are people who say the game's fine so AI will likely be as stupid in 2018

As a pro developer I do not agree. It should not be so hard to fix the AI stupidness regarding adopting strategy to rain and SC. It should be individual for each car, and it could build upon som randomness in decisions as in real life. If they gave me an API I would fix it.

When I heard that F1 2016 was the "base" for F1 2017 I really expected such things to be fixed, and I'm surprised it is not, since it would really enhance the game experience.

I can´t understand how this game has so many bugs or so little things that are not right.Look at nba 2k, thats just amazing how much they put in to that game and how many little details make the difference.they are improving the game all the time. This game seems to be much easier to develop  and it still has so many flaws and simple mistakes.I don´t know the cap on budget for codemasters and 2k ,but i think Codemasters could make a much better and deeper game than this one is.

I don't seem to experience any of these so-called strategy 'bugs' during 25% races. They always seem to optimise their pit strategy for the circumstances, such as rain and the Safety Car. They seem realistic.

beta testing went well for this game.......
We really didn't get to test this game!  Also what was in the beta was different from this. It's like they started off decent and then just added bugs!

Totally agree with this, I won Monaco because Jeff said "rain imminent" so I stretched out a stint 1/2 laps longer, everyone putted for fresh ultras, then pitted for inters the next lap. In Canada I had such a short rain spell, Perez pitted 3 times in 5 laps. He put on ultras when I put inters on, rain lasted 2 laps, he put inters on when it was drying, then put ultras on a lap later. I know it's really really difficult to code the AI to make risky decisions or to make them stay out a bit longer. A lot of the time you react off of their stop but it's so easy to undercut cause your pit windows the same as theirs, you know exactly when they'll pit. But that is so difficult to code I don't know if it can be fixed

Just got my first points for Sauber at Spa. Safety car came out with 8 laps to go. Massa and Hulkenberg crashed into the safety car, then after the restart with 4 laps left, the leading Ferrari and Mercedes cars pitted, then the 2nd lot of Ferrari and Mercedes cars pitted with 3 laps to go. So I went from 11th at the safety car to 5th. Ridiculous tactics by the AI need to be sorted but I doubt CM will do anything.
