F1 2017 No Split Screen AGAIN

Recommended Posts

Another game I will not buy, I'm soooo frustrated at the stupidity of CM. Split Screen is such an important element of racing games that CM is just ignoring because they cant be arsed to implement it. I would be happy with lowered graphics, as the enjoyment of racing with someone sat next to you is much more important than how the rain looks!! I loved the previous versions of the F1 games, but haven't bought one since CM stopped doing split screen. Please come on listen to the gamers!

I wouldn't say that I don't enjoy splitscreen, but it's 2017, get with the times.

It's a shockingly small percentage who'd actually use splitscreen to play together these days.

They did say this was a hardware issue. The consoles just cannot cope with split screen and can you imagine the forum if this was pc only feature lol

Well, to be honest, how would it work? Would it basically mean twice the amount of frames to render? Would it be rendered in smaller resolution since the individual screens are smaller or would it just be downsampled?

I have no clue how about the technical aspects of splitsreen.

Certain games still have it, I know Gears of War 4 has split screen in online core lobbies. So it cant entirely be down to the  Hardware.

There was an interview with Lee where he went through why it was not possible. From memory it was physics and keeping frame rate high. Don't think they can get it working at 60hz as well

I'd rather be social and game with a friend  rather than over internet, I think its sad how people have more online 'friends' that they have never met than actual real friends. You say get with the times, but you can see how board game sales are increasing as people are turning towards these over computer games for the social element.

Nah mate that's more to do with the fact they can release a product you can immediately use without having to wait weeks for a specific patch :)
Do not Pass Go, do not Collect $200, please install patch 1.07.

Implying that the game is unusable.

I already played over 30h without major problems. Only the annoying lap time issues of AIs, really.

He was talking about the social aspect of games. Online has many issues and I'm not likely to buy it for anything other than online leagues and Social races. Do you race online much?

The game is unusable for me insofar as I haven't purchased it yet. I'm happy you are enjoying the game despite the AI issues.

I agree , the social aspect of gaming is being lost and specifically in the racing genre. To be honest I used to enjoy playing f1 with some of my mates on the previous split-screen versions. Now if I'm with friends we play almost exclusively other sports games, fifa, madden, 2k sports games. We are f1 fans but don't even bother to set up online multiplayer between us, it's a bit of an effort to coordinate.

It's a real shame, but what can you do?

If you want perfect multiplayer, you have to play LAN. Even then you have small latencies that are noticeable.

Don't play public match making, play with friends from around your general area, then it's playable for the most part. Not sure about bugs, didn't have any in multiplayer yet.

Ooh the perfect game fallacy :)

I've leagued since 10, I've done US based leagues, we had our EIR leagues with Americans, Canadians, Irish, Northern Irish, Scottish, English, Welsh and even a South African. IFR leagues were similar with more from central and southern Europe.

Public matchmaking was fine when we could see the Lobby list, when we did come across idiots tryna ruin things they were "policed" well. I had a large list of players where I knew if I jumped in their lobbies it would be clean racing.

Would like to do all this again at some point if they can keep working on it, and improve things prior to the eSports launch

There will always be issues but same as any other game - depends on the severity of the bugs/issues. I play Gears (now that's a salty forum) so I've seen all the craziness a bad connection can cause when people are deliberately region hopping and pushing the lag comp.

It's perfeclty doable. Every console have to deal with it in the past. The problem is not to render, since you will render full screen anyway, but the ammount of IO and CPU calculations would increase considerable. Probably CM have made some research and they have concluded that it's not worth. Only few people still play on split screen these days. This mode needs a lot of optimization and would increase in months or new people to the developer team. So probably they have decided that it's not worth.

Strongly agree! I like to play games with my son.
If Gran Turismo works in split screen, if Moto GP works, then F1 should also.
