"The race to Rank 50"

Recommended Posts

Forewarning: This is mainly a thread for Trophy/Achievement Hunters, for some people "min-maxing" is also a fun way to play a game  ;)

One of the hardest Achievements/Trophies to unlock in F1 2017 is "Another Lap?"
This requires you to reach Rank 50 in Public Multiplayer.

This Achievement/Trophy will take a long time to unlock, as it requires players to earn a large amount of XP.
There are a number of players who are aiming to unlock this and have already spent a long time on their current progress.

According to @jennyannem Player Ranks will reset to 0 shortly after the release of Patch 1.6: http://forums.codemasters.com/discussion/57344/patch-1-6-notes#latest
If somebody has been putting in several hours and was nearly at Rank 50, that's going to come across as a big disappointment, seeing all those hours "go to waste" and having to start over again.

Let's assume that the Rank reset is coming in a few days (it would be great if the reset is held back a week so that those of who put in the time can have a chance at completion).

What methods can a player try in order to get the most amount of XP in the shortest amount of time?

Let's see if we can work this out; this info plus some long weekend gaming sessions could get some players "over the line" before everyone is forced to start from scratch.

From my own experience (just about to hit Rank 30):
  • I have been focusing on the shortest races, which are usually 5 laps with the occasional Qualifying lap added.
  • A typical race (including lobby waiting and load times) comes out at around 15 minutes.
  • With my results (top half of the field if I have a clean race) I usually get around 5000 XP per race.
  • That means I'm averaging about 20,000 XP per hour.
Is there a way to get more XP per hour? Maybe longer races would be better, even though less people tend to queue up for them.

less people can be a plus better for a clean race more chance off a win and fastets lap witch gives more xp.

  • I've just done a 25% race, 3 players in session.
  • I got about 12,500 XP for doing this (won the race) and it took around 25 minutes.
  • That comes out to 30,000 XP per hour.

Whenever it is reset, you will see someone only "a few hours" or "a few thousand XP" away from Rank 50.

It's my guess 1.07 is ready to go and you lot are the reason it's being held off, just so you get 'fair warning'. The rest of us would rather take the patch progress to focus on the outstanding bugs.

Can't see the point of playing a game solely to gain 'XP' in the circumstances where you are trying to obtain points in the quickest manner and strategy possible and then be done with it. I would hate to think because I'd scored the achievements that the game was 100% complete.

Obviously I'd have preferred a game without bugs that didn't require any such steps to be taken, but all the bugfixes are affecting career play (lost saves, diminished or inflated results), online play (destroyed MP races) and all bar TT mode is going to be affected. It's not perfect but we all deserve the game corrected as much as possible and as quickly as possible. There will always be some collateral damage.

A 25% race is 3 5 lap races give or take so around the same really then except a little less loading time but less people so may be more consitent with the average XP per race

One thing to note is that the resetting and management of online stats is not directly linked to the base code of the game. In other words, a rank reset can theoretically be done at any time and shouldn't hold up any patches. @jennyannem alluded to this in the 1.6 Patch Notes thread by mentioning that "once we think everyone is on 1.6 we will issue a stat reset".

I get what you're saying; the game has bugs, some more serious for players than others. Fixes will negatively affect some while positively affecting others. Patches should take priority yes, but at the same time it would come across as a bit of goodwill to a certain part of the community if holding off on a stat reset for a few days doesn't delay any patching that is planned.

If a stat reset delay also delays a patch then the reset should come ASAP, but from what I have read the 2 are not connected enough that the delay of one would delay the other.

As for the comments regarding completion, different people play games in different ways. Some go straight for Achievements while others couldn't care less. Personally I like to experience everything "naturally" but once I've had my fill of a game mode I'll hit the checklist and go for 100% completion. I am enjoying Public Multiplayer but would like to put that aside quickly while the game has a healthy online population (Project CARS 2 and Forza Motorsport 7 are going to pull a lot of people away for different reasons) as doing it after those games come out will take much longer. You have a different view and that's okay; neither of us are "wrong" as there is no one correct way to experience a medium such as this.

------

An aside: I respect your opinion and agree with a lot of it, but I don't appreciate the tone that "you lot" conveys. I'm happy to have a healthy debate but that came across as a little demeaning, sorry. Let's not have an "us versus them" mentality come up; I've seen my fair share of online communities go sour when people start turning on each other,

I haven't touched the online yet but it would be a nasty surprise to find out all the stats are cleared, thanks for the heads up...

I've done some calculations to see how much XP I'll need to get to Rank 50 (I'm currently at Rank 30).

If the increase in XP required per Rank is consistent then I believe it'll take around 614,000 XP to get to Rank 50.
  • At 15,000 XP per hour that's about 41 hours of Public Multiplayer.
  • At 20,000 XP per hour that's about 21 hours of Public Multiplayer.
Assuming the reset comes on Monday that's a significant challenge no matter what way you put it; I think 5 Lap races (15,000 XP/hour) would be out of the question at this point.

Whats the big deal about rank? It doesn't do anything in the game, you don't get any perks or new things for the game as you rank up. I don't even notice other peoples ranks in the game either

We've released on PC, and are looking to get out on consoles shortly. You can find the details here: http://forums.codemasters.com/discussion/57344/patch-1-6-notes-updated-08-09 :)

This patch will still be called 1.6 - but includes the fixes in the patch notes thread.
Thanks for the update.

Also, will the Multiplier Rank reset come automatically with the patch or will it be done manually by Codemasters at a later date?

It'll be after the weekend, but I'll let you know when I have adate I'll let you know.

From the 1.06 Patch Discussion thread. According to @jennyannem the reset won't take place until after the weekend, which gives us a few days to try and rank up.

Time to start racing I guess ;)

Rank 50 doesn't take this long. I have a guy on my PS4 Friendslist. The guy already got the Platinum. 2 others got the Rank 50 trophy. With 5 laps - 25 % races and afk races (letting the ai drive the car) the thing only takes 25 hours.

I can say without a shadow of a doubt you are mistaken. I have put in easily more than 30 hours and I have only reached level 32. Talk to people who've actually got the trophy and they will confirm this.

I can confirm that it takes around 55-65 hours depending on how many clean race/finishes you have  and how much bonus XP your ean via milestones. If you get taken out and have to retire you have to wait for the race to Finish and you won't earn much XP. it took me around 60 hours to earn this.

I went from Rank 30 to 35 this evening, some observations:
  • In terms of potential XP per hour the 25% races seemed a lot better than 5 lap sprints.
  • In the longer races there are fewer players and they tend to be more "serious" or risk-averse which means far fewer crashes. The side effect of this is that you have enough space to focus on your own driving more, and can often go through entire races without taking any damage or corner-cutting penalties (both give you XP bonuses).
  • Player count in the 25% races was usually between 3 and 5, which meant that podiums and top half results were more likely (again, more XP).
  • Any laps where you let your AI do the driving (by pausing the game) give you no XP.
  • Nobody on Xbox was doing 50% races, they would never show up in Matchmaking.
  • I seem to be averaging around a Rank an hour currently, I don't think it's possible to get that to go up any faster.
You have to be relatively fast and clean in order to rank up quickly, which makes this Achievement become several hours of skilled play. I don't know how much I'll be able to play over the weekend (probably dip in for an hour or 2 per session throughout the days) but I do know that this game will be one where very few players get 100% completion.

While it's not something I'm interested in pursuing myself, I respect what you're doing with this thread, as it's very community-minded and I'm sure it will help other players chasing this achievement/trophy.

Thumbs up, PJ! o:)

Thanks :) "Community" is part of my job title (different company, different game) and when I am invested in a game I like to be productive on forums.

Update:
  • Just hit Rank 40, averaging 1 Rank per hour.
  • 50% races give the best XP per hour ratio, probably around 40,000.
  • 25% races seem to be the sweet spot, 30,000 XP per hour with plenty of people playing.
  • A short variation of a circuit gives the same XP as a full version. That makes a 9 minute race at Suzuka East (Japan Short) give 15,000 XP.

Ah, F1 Race Stars. 100% not played. Body is 5 characters too short.
It was a neat idea wrapped around a mediocre game. If it weren't for the F1 license I wouldn't have bothered with it. Quick completion though and I did have some fun racing against my friends for the brief time I spent with it.

As for the race to Rank 50, I'm now at Rank 45. That's as far as Saturday could take me, a few hours on Sunday and I'm done. Hopefully there's no stat reset before I wake up  :s
