Fuel Load

Recommended Posts

What are people's preference when it comes to fuel load?
I like to overfill by 4 laps on 50% races which gives me abit of rich mix to play with.

Whatever the game wants me to do after I've done my race strategy tests, which is usually a small bit of overfueling (little over an extra lap on 100%, sometimes two on tracks where I'm extremely good out of corners relative to the AI). Usually I'm more conservative in the race compared to the race strategy test so I have a tiny bit left over, which is good for overtaking or pushing before pitting (which gave me two excellent undercuts against both of the heavily upgraded Red Bulls in my previous race).

For the most part, I've found underfueling to be a total waste of time on 110%. Even accounting for the Haas having terrible overheating brakes, lifting and coasting is utterly useless, and while I shortshift all the time, I'd rather be more aggressive when downshifting under braking to get the rear to step out a bit more. I also tend to get as early as possible on the throttle to give myself more unorthodox overtaking opportunities against the AI, which is usually slow out of many corners. Myself and another friend have done several tests with less fuel and we've both found that conserving fuel with a lighter load at the start is just about universally slower.

Short shifting is key to passing fuel saving test. I just go straight to 8th on straights. It's a slower acceleration but the bar files up into the green and you are always quick enough to hit the target.

Not as easy on 110% since the fuel consumption is weirdly coded to be directly tied to what the AI does and the AI being excruciatingly slow out of corners punishes you heavily as a result.

tbh it depends on the car I'm finding my Ferrari to be a bit of a gas guzzler so am having to over fill it a bit whereas when I raced the Williams in Season 1 I was able to save a bit.

Its worth underfilling in Monaco. Once the 1 round of stops are out of the way, nobody's getting past you...
yeah but do you need to get past anyone else?

I think he means that you can underfuel and run lean most of the time. So even if you need rich to pass, once you are past, you can run lean and hold track position because its' so hard to pass.

Underfueling and runing standard and at times lean fuel mixtures is surely a benefit in terms of saving engine components in career mode?

Not in my experience. Simply shortshifting and being careful works much better in that sense - I'm at Monaco right now and I've barely had to touch any components. Running lean just damages your ES.

Yeah always max, because that gives you at least a little rich mix, except at Silverstone where it gave me a bit more(about2.8 laps)  due to the nature of the circuit.
