What a game! What's all the negativity

Recommended Posts

I felt complied to write on this forum for Codemasters, following the release of the latest F1 game. I've been on various social media sites whilst having a perusal on this forum. For me this is the best F1 game I've ever played and I've been playing them since the first one for the PSone. I just can't understand all the negativity this latest title has received.

Pros:
Career mode still ten years.
Nice addition of the classic cars.
R&D tree. (Absolutely loved be this feature as it brings a management feel to the game)
Race management. Love the way you have to race strategically and manage the car.
Tons of racing modes!
Beautiful graphics and presentation of the game.

Cons:

Not enough stats for your driver.
Can't save replays.

Overall this game is a belter. It catches the thrill of F1 racing. Codemasters have been a victim of their own success and some fans expect everything. Who cares about the bugs! It's not harmed my experience of the game. You get bugs with every release no matter who the company is. If it crashed all the time then I could understand.

Keep up the good work Codemasters.

PS Bring back LMA Manager ;)

Most of the "negativity" is not around the game's features, but due to functional quality issues (bugs/glitches, etc.). The game has a nice list of features, but many people are having trouble enjoying those features when the game does not function properly. It's not "negativity" - it's only paying customers naturally wanting a functional game in return for their money.

Its the same copy pasted game for 5+ years bugs and all with a few sprinkles on top to make it look more appetizing. Turd is still a turd. After years of hoping one year they will get it right I will simply never buy another CM F1 game unless it is COMPLETELY rebuilt from the ground up. No scripted ai times, no more copypasta chatacter scenes and sialog. A NEW game or no more money. To be fair CM arent the only guilty parties. Just look at the tigerwoods games, forza games, call of duty and anu number of yearly titles. 90% of the code is copy paste and an absolute ripoff.

Fair comment. I understand what you're saying. Perhaps career mode is more or less spot on then. I've not encountered any issues apart from the race director informing me for no reason to overtake Raikonen whilst the safety car was out.

I see you're not a massive fan of the game then! You're right about the guilty parties. 2k are the worse offenders. They love a bug/glitch on their games. I've stopped buying their titles. As for Tiger Wood games, I stopped buying them for the same reasons. I don't mind a few bugs , most games seem to be rushed out to please the fans. Sometimes I feel the game designers should allow two years before making certain titles  to ensure limited bugs and a better product overall. However, I understand money needs to be made and a year
ly release is more profitable

I buy because I am a massive fan of F1 and unfortunately this is the only option that provides proper regulations and tracks. Thats part of what makes me bitter about it. I WANT a f1 product and it sucks to have 1 choice.

Really? Then you are blind to the same bugs every year? The same character animations. The same scripted ai issues. The same cuts scenes. The same voice dialog recordings. The only real changes every year are the art assets for the cars and the menus. If you think its any thing BUT copy paste then youre delusional.

The game has come long ways in the last years. Comparing with the time frame you gave(which starts around F1 2011) the game has drastically improved, they have deepened the career mode progressively, improved graphics and the handling model has improved. It used to be only about racing and nothing else in their earlier versions but since they added the upgrades that you actually control and this year the reliability component it adds another level of thinking to the game. The fact they also added a difficult slider also helps the AI be more flexible.

I have been pissed off at Codies on more than one edition, i absolutely despised F1 2011 for example, that handling model was atrocious and F1 2014 was a robbery to our pockets because that is the definition of a copy pasted game. But since 2015 they have improved the game gradually in every sense and has become a more complete experience which is what you can expect from a yearly franchise(a gradual process, expecting radical changes in a yearly franchise is asking too much), and every game has bugs, that´s a general problem of the industry since the possibly of patching games on the fly opened with the PS3/360 generation.

I totally understand being pissed off about the online bugs, i don´t care for them because i really don´t play online and because of it bar the McLaren upgrades i have not encountered something that actually directly affects my racing. But they will fix stuff the faster they can. But that does not erase the fact that the game is very good when it works well, which is more often than people complain it is, because online is a component of the game, certain guys might be addicted to it, but that´s just a part of the game, the other features work well, at least for me, i´ve not had any problems with it and it´s quite common for online to be shit in the launch of a game, it´s not a isolated case this game.

yeah it's not so much the features because features wise it's damn near perfect it's the number of bugs that are causing problems.

LOL! Same could be said of many buggy games.

The fact that a game needs a "when it works" qualifier is exactly the problem, and it's why many people are rightfully disappointed.

A game that does not work reliably is a waste of money to buy and a waste of time to (try to) play.

This game has the perfect controller handling, especially with all assist off, and this is the most important feature to me; It's such a pleasure, that I pray CM never ever touch it.

Not just the number of bugs, but also the severity of some of them. Small bugs might not be a game-breaking experience, but high-impact issues that significantly disrupt (or even prevent) proper game-play render the game unfit for purpose.

The game works offline, that´s what i was trying to say. Online problems exist but that´s just a component that happens to have problems, and it´s not a occurrence exclusive to F1 games. I might be playing a different game but single player wise i have not had any problems and i´ve tried all modes of that component. So i cannot be unhappy, because that´s why i bought the game and that´s what the majority of the features are about this game, offline.

A quick look at the F1 Games - Technical Assistance sub-forum suggests that many people are experiencing a number of substantial issues with offline modes.

yeah there are a few like the rain bug I reported whether it gets fixed or not is up to CM but I did all I can do in reporting the issue. If they don't fix it that's their problem but hopefully they do because it's the only issue I've run into so far.
