"Next" DiRT game wishlist!

and bundle together top-of-the-line biscuit box and shortbread assortment with a special edition. and some in-game content, of course. Just be careful Lee doesn't steal the contents before shipping.

Note: I'm serious about the bundle, the livery stuff can be made afterwards by the community it or the request for it can be posted on the Custom Liveries and Mods thread, so that doesn't really matter so much.

Note2: i'm beginning to find my own requests pretty annoying, but i don't feel satisfied till i've actually posted them. hopefully people don't mind to much.

Yay! I love caramel! And flake and twix and tubberlorne (can't spell) and kinder eggs and bueno and choc ice and, oh, someone should make an ice cream livery too.

How about some of the more unique cars, such as the Toyota GT86 WRC that Tommi Makkinen drove at rally Finland last week. And as you've gone to WRGB, you must remember the Volvo S60 zero car, I'd love to see that in the game as it seems hilariously quick for what it is!

There used to be a Mentos Rally Team, really liked their liveries but I haven't seen them in action for a while.

One of my favourite mints. I think I should start googling some of these liveries, see what I can find. Thanks for the responses btw, @dotmartin‌, @justbiglee‌ .

Nice video, I have had the privilege to visit the Finnish forrests a couple of times and I actually think the DiRT3 representation of the rally is quite accurate. All we need are some more stages, and maybe some longer ones. But that should not come as news to anyone by now.  :)

1. C.O.C.K.P.I.T.S. Codemasters are the masters of visceral cockpit effects (best windshield wipers award hands-down!). I'd notice dynamic window cracks.

2. 30% 'Landrush', 30% 'Rallycross', 30% 'Rally', 10% other (see #4). 

  • Please please bring back "Ensenada Sprint" from Baja California (circa DiRT 2) - my favorite track from any racing game ever. 
  • I'd love to see a  "clear" and "rain" variant for every track in DiRT 4 (I would not miss snow).

3. Dirtbikes? ATVs? ... Dakar?

4. 'Knockout' (circa DiRT Showdown). Just need 1 map for the arena. Don't need boost or health meters (just award 1 point for every car you push over the edge). Fun for multiplayer.

  • And just use this knockout map for laying foam bricks for 'Smash Hunter' (circa DiRT Showdown). Very therapeutic mode to play alone.



DiRT 2 is my favorite (Baja California (!), all the tracks were good, festival presentation). DiRT 3 had too much Gymkhana and not enough Landursh love. Gymkhana was tolerable in Showdown, but still not a fan of it, and really just hated the original race tracks created in Showdown (so flat and the metal ramps just felt so cheap). I can always count on DiRT's inflatable-wavy-man to cheer me up on those off days. Thanks.

Nice to have the Dirt forum back.  For D4, this is what we want.  Watch the Finland flick at 0.40 again at 2.22 and 3.0.  Impossible to do in D3.

Hope the RWD  handling dynamics are accurate enough to be able to "flick" in D4.  Crank your speakers and listen to that glorious BDG.

I thought the audio in both DiRT 2 and DiRT 3 was an improvement on the games that had preceeded them. If they are going to implement launch control in the next game I hope there will be suitable audio to match: especially in the case of rallycross cars, as the starts always sound incredible!

 

The guys in audio are really passionate about what they do (just like we all are) and I honestly think we make some of the best sounding games out there. 

Just the other week I was outside with them recording some audio and they have this crazy expensive super high tech setup that has been developed in conjunction with a university and they way it works and captures audio blew my mind. I probably can't say much more, not for fear of letting anything about the game out (surprise we record cars!) just more a case for letting something slip about the tech that I shouldn't. I fully plan to have some kind of feature about it up on the blog/in a video/on a podcast when the time is right.


This is good to know, can you bully the sound guys to record a Mk 2 Escort RS1800 with BDA or BDG engine ?

If something like this was used in the next DiRT/Rally game subtly and not just to show off a great new effect it could be a huge leap in the experience.

Anyhow, thought I would pass it along since I haven't seen it mentioned.

This would be a great thing to have for Land Rush and Rally Cross. More so the former, since terrain deformation is a big factor when racing those big, heavy V8 powered trucks.

what mods are you using for RBR?

certainly agree, the fidelity of the physics model in RBR is a big contrast to a lot of other rally games.  Am I correct in saying that it is similar handling to Assetto Corsa?

what mods are you using for RBR?

certainly agree, the fidelity of the physics model in RBR is a big contrast to a lot of other rally games.  Am I correct in saying that it is similar handling to Assetto Corsa? 

RSRBR 2014 mod if i'm allowed to speak about mods here!

@TURBODEVIN19‌ , after a lot of tweaking in the current ego engine on DiRT 3, i managed to do this:

since the last-gen engine is capable of this, i'm more than certain that a current-gen engine should be able to render the level of particles you requested. Since the consoles are still in their early days, however, it is possible that we won't get that level from the get-go, but I would at least expect something on or above the level shown above, and hopefully be able to push the particle systems close to what you requested.

I've also found that WRC 4 can render particles endlessly. by simply increasing 'life' and reducing 'gravity' and 'wind' values, you can have particles rendered as far back as the terrain!

of course, the particles would be much prettier in a Codemasters game, but i hope the game engine is still capable of endlessly rendering the particles, and also having them affected by weather and temperature. does that sound reasonable/possible/feasible, @KickUp‌ , @justbiglee‌ ?

Nice job!  If you look over at the DiRT camera angles thread, we've been talking about holding the camera on the car longer, for a 'full sweep' pass.  Not allowing the camera to cut back and forth so quickly.  Your new particle hack would really look good if we had more of a spectator view.  Heck we could have coughing sounds when the car passed :wink:

OK, here's my wish list for D4.

1/ Keep it simple, all we want to do is choose the car, country, event and drive. None of this earning points to unlock cars or features nonsense. Keep that for the kiddie games, it has no place in a mature Rally simulation. If unlocking is included, we will quickly find a way around it so it is pointless. Treat it as a simulation, not a game.

2/ PLEASE  !! no more Ken Block or Gymkhana type stuff.

3/ Make the sim easy to install new liveries or custom liveries created by some very talented people in the Dirt community

4/ Make car sound files easy to replace so if we are unhappy with the way a car sounds we can replace the sound file with something more authentic, again from modders in the Dirt community.

5/ Accurate car modeling, attention to detail inside & out.

6/ Handling and driving dynamics accurate and realistic for each car. 

7/ Choice of Tyres for each event or  stage with service areas to repair damage, re fuel, change tyres, clean car etc.

8/ Ability to remove and add spotlights for day & night stages.

9/ Include famous international stages and events, Welsh, Scottish, Circuit of Ireland, Lombard RAC, Manx, 1000 Lakes, Acropolis, etc etc.

10/ Only include countries that are truly passionate about Rallying, forget the USA, they just don't get it ! (Sorry no offence  but they really should         stick to NASCAR, Budweiser & hot dogs)

11/ Cars from the golden era of rallying included (70's & early 80's), Escort Mk2 RS1800,  Chevette HSR,  Triumph TR8, Lancia Stratos, Audi Quattro,       Fiat 131 Abarth,  Renault 5 Turbo, Lancia Delta, 

12/ Functional windscreen wipers & washers.

13/ Car gets dirty according to the stage conditions.

14/ Ability to turn spectators warning whistles on or off  !!

15/ Forget the gimmicks, focus on realism, quality graphics & handling dynamics, if it doesn't happen on a real event, don't include it 

That's it for now but i'm sure I will think of more.  Very much looking forward to Dirt 4.

I can vouch for the Audio guys too. I bumped into them on a rally back in June and they were trying to scope out cars and getting other kinds of recordings. 


They were very excited about the new tech they've got, and the progress they're making :)
