Moderator MBKF1 Posted August 26, 2014 Moderator Share Posted August 26, 2014 Yeah, they are. I've been watching World RallyCross this year and it's epic. They all have one joker lap, and it's great because you can use it when you want, and it can really alter your race. If you lead from the front then it's best to save it as you can use the clean air, but if you're in the pack then it may be best to use it immediatey to get that cleaner air. I really hope this is in DiRT

Aren't joker laps longer than the normal lap, sort of a longcut? They are cool though Yes, they are always longer in European and World Rallycross. They are suppose to add at least 2 seconds to the lap time. Some of the Global Rallycross "tracks" (I use the term loosely) have the Joker as a shortcut. I would like to see them in the next game, but would like to have the option to race the old fashion way without joker laps!
TDDB
Okay, here is a rule for Rallycross in the next DiRT game. There MUST be joker laps, the lack of them in every DiRT game has annoyed me as they are a staple in Rallycross. And yes, joker laps can make it a longcut or a shortcut. I personally don't consider something has been added so recently as a "staple" of the sport. It is a recent measure to try and reduce car contact. Having said that, I would like the next DiRT game to reflect rallycross in its current state... however I would also like to race it the traditionally way, hence I'd like to be able to toggle Joker laps on and off!
doyley101
I would love to see a more immersive career mode than D3's different car, different team each time approach. It could be based around seasons where you start with something cheap (but still fun!) like an Escort or an R2/S1600 car and work your way up. You could have wildcard entrances in other disciplines like rallycross etc. in a loaner car. This system could also mean that the weather changes depending on the time of year; eg a rally in Wales in December could mean there is a possiblitily of snow, sleet, ice and fog aswell as the usual rain, or a Scandinavian/ alpine rally could differ between snow stages and gravel/tarmac depending on the time of year. doyley101
@ThierryNeuville Yeah i was thinking of that but your idea seemed more multiplayer focused, although I read it a while ago so if I just completely copied it I apologise

gfRally
That is very similar to what we have here in the US Rally America Championship, no fancy acronym for us! :)
gfRally
I know this has been mentioned before, but just want to bring up the topic again. I keep thinking about cars that cannot be licensed for the next DiRT game for various reasons, but it would be great if there was a little bit of 3rd party support for creating your own cars. I know this would be new for Codies but it would be nice to be there, not complicated, just here is a 'shell' car with game spec parameters like power curve, gear ratios, suspension stiffness, tires, etc etc. Something that you can fairly easily plug in a mesh file or something for the car design and of course the livery. Heck maybe just a text file that you can change the parameters and a DLC like in game 3rd party car add-on. I know this is easier on paper than to do in reality, but just wanted to throw out an idea. RallyManAndyWRC
Just been thinking, one feature I'd like to see is launch control! I think it'd be cool if you could use this feature on cars that are actually fitted with them I.e wrc cars, S2000 cars and the others etc. I wouldn't have thought it'd be hard to implement? Select gear > hold handbrake > build up revs (game holds at optimum revs) > 5.4.3.2.1. Go (release handbrake) obviously I know people could jump start, if this happens hand them a penalty 10-15 seconds which could be added on at the end.if people didn't want to use this feature just have it like normal, select gears > hold throttle wide open > 5.4.3.2.1 go > game automatically launches car like previous games.i know launch control would give some cars an advantage off the line but every WRC car has them, why not have them on the game? The World Rally Cars (Pro Class) in DiRT 3 actually have launch control, as do the Open Class cars as well if I recall correctly. If you come to a halt in the stage, then press the brake and accelerator simultaneously the revs "hold" at a lower RPM, then release the brake and off you go: just like launch control! However I don't know anyway to use this feature on the start line, plus the audio doesn't sound like proper launch control. I agree that proper launch control (along with the corresponding audio) would be a great addition to the next game. Leaving the moment you set off up to the player (and issuing penalties for a jump start) would be a neat feature as well. Something that I think would be a really cool extra - and this is especially relevant for the rallycross - is to be able to set the launch RPM for the car. Thanks to the onboard cameras they are using in RallycrossRX/World Rallycross you get to see the drivers tweaking the car settings quite often now, but drivers will select the launch RPM according to the track surface, temperature etc. Too low and the car will bog down, too much and you get wheel spin. It may not be for everyone, but I think it would be a cool little extra to add to the game for those who want as much realism as possible! If track conditions were to vary in the game (more than dry and wet settings) then such a feature would have been great. Check out a description of a Supercar start:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egNrKcsDijEFor some reason recent Codemasters racing games haven't allowed the player to jump the starts or gain much with them. Decyphered
How about some track deformation. If you start first at a rally, the track is clean, no cutted corners and stuff bit if you start later than other racers you see some deformation of the track, dirtier roads, more trails of the cars, grass is gone at some shortcuts. VirtuaIceMan
I can imagine track deformation could happen, as Codemasters took over the Sega Rally (Revo) team, which had just that in the game.I'd like to see some of this though, once it gets going as a championship:http://rallytakeover.kinja.com/fia-does-something-useful-creates-the-r-gt-rally-cup-1640570397
Rallycameraman
Hopefully @KickUp or @JonTucker will see this, but one thing I would to see for steering wheel players, particularly if you're going for authenticity/realism, is to be able to pick he amount of steering lock we want on consoles. Usually there's only the option of 900degrees or just half a turn of lock. My ideal amount would be 3/4 to a full rotation of the wheel, just like a really rally car does with their quick steering racks.

Who knows though, maybe they will realize with the RGT Cup they need a proper rally game to show it off in :)Heres to wishful thinking :\
Rallycameraman
Is it EA with the sole Porsche rights?
VirtuaIceMan
I believe it is EA with exclusive rights. That said, things can change; Ferrari weren't in Need For Speed for years until Rivals.
