Why is it so easy to overtake at the start?

Recommended Posts

Whatever difficulty I choose, I always overtake easy up to 5 cars by the first corner starting at the back. The cars just line up and follow each other.

In real life the cars are everywhere the first few corners.

And the AI just follows me even I am much slower (second by lap). It doesnt try to overtake me as hard as it could. But this is not so annoying like the start. I star P15 and by three corners I am P5 sometimes.

Yea it's been that way for years, A.I. never seems to be aggressive at the start of the race like in real life, they are a lot more cautious. Also seems like you are able to get a better launch at the start line of a race too, no matter which car you are in.

Yeah, i remember this from F1 2016 but I didnt pay much attention. Now it really becomes annoying, it gets to easy, just unreal.

Since the problem is here for years, we cant expect a fix in the patch, can we?

I doubt it this year anyways, there is always hope for 2018 I guess. It sucks if you are in like a sauber or slower car because after a half lap or so, you have a train of faster cars behind you.

lol. Good point, that would be another problem. Like I said in my experience it happens when I get a good start off the line. Probably be better if the A.I. got a better start off the line.

And the AI NEVER crashes at the first Corner after the Start. They should at least damage their front Wings but it's unrealistic if there is never a collision at the beginning of a race espacially in slow corners like Monaco, Baku or other slow first corner tracks.

Imagine they wouldnt be cautious at the start - they would all crash together. You know the AI :D
You don't have to imagine. Play online with at least 5 people and you get the full experience.

No, racers are generally quite cautious into turn 1 (not to the extent of the AI), but online doesn't simulate real life. Generally, in a real race, regardless of category, the drivers will brake a little early, as it isn't worth getting caught out and running into the back of someone as you left no room for error. The exceptions to this are of course the leader and really anyone alongside the leader - however, even the leader will sometimes brake early, such as if they defend the inside line, as you obviously need to brake earlier in this situation.

By the way, this obviously doesn't apply all the time - generally a race start is all instinctive, so you don't go in deciding I'll brake 12 metres early, you just do what you feel is best in that situation.

Yes, but majority of people playing this can't race, they can just drive fast. There's a difference.

Definetly the case in my experience in most races on any racing game.

still better than F1 2016, when AI always used to crash each other on U turn on Monaco and SC come as regular

No flashback, Simulation Damage. This is what you need to make the starts harder. Or dont dive bomb into turn 1 & 2, starts are always funner when you are on the outside of the grid to stop you going down the inside, but it would be more realistic if CM managed to figure out how to get the AI to block the inside line
