After multiple patches, is this worth buying?

Recommended Posts

so I’m a huge F1 fan, but with kids and work and all the usual boring bits and pieces, I’m no longer the ‘grab it on day one’ type. Ps4 sits gathering dust a lot of the time, however I do love F1 gaming.

After multiple patches, is this game good fun? For a realistic race (don’t really have the time for career anymore) where the AI give a good fight and the cars feel like F1 cars should feel?

i noticed that it’s on ‘sale’ on the PS4 store just now, and £30 looks a lot better than £46.

At 30, maybe its close to being worth it, but there are stil patches coming so personally I am holding off. Might see what the price is around Black Friday, that would give them another 5 or 6 weeks to get more patches out now that we are into the final few patches they are likely to release before dropping everything for '18.

If you are playing offline then yes it truly is a great experience. Online well, yeah dont bother. Career mode is great great great if you find time. You can find a sweet spot with difficulty slider and have some great grand prix battles with ai if you just want to do that.

Great experience offline. If you were struggling to play F12016 against the AI (like me) beacuse you were between two levels...you'll really love this game. Online...it's another story at the moment...

For offline and/or strictly career mode the price of admission is worth it for me even at full price. The only lingering thing that is bothering me in career mode is the poor AI strategy for pitting when SC is out, ie pitting the same lap the SC comes in or the lap after. This is supposedly being fixed after the next patch so most/all of the issues I have with the game as far as career mode is concerned should be resolved.

Edit: I am on race 17 of season 3 in my career mode, 50% race distance and about 220+ hours put in to the game. I've enjoyed most of it minus very few minor bug issues.

Look, Ronster, some will tell you it's not worth it and some seem determined to trash this game and are verging on trolls.

I think that it's a great game, and many others agree.

If you want to just blast out some single races you'll love both the current cars and the classic cars too.

I recommend the Red Bull RB6'Classic at Silverstone or Suzuka.

Yes, it has rough edges and needs some work, and yes I conceed the multiplayer isn't working.

But for a single race or career mode focused player, which you said you are, and especially while it's on sale digitally (if that's your preferred platform), I'd 100% say go for it.

If you are any kind of F1 fan you won't regret it!

I think it's definitely worth it, this is a great game. The multiplayer has some glitches, but it's not unplayable at all. I've spent a good 15 hours playing online with lots of success.
In terms of glitches I just got Project Cars 2 and that is worse.

It's a great game, go for it. I don't go online with racing games so for me the experience has been great so far. I'm only two career races in (about 8 hours approx including watching both race replays & finished FP3 at Bahrain), the game looks and handles really really good.

Not yet. I still play this game because I love the sport and the emotion it brings. I gave up on Codemasters. Every year is the same old story with bugs and patches that instead of fixing, breaks the game even more

So far imo it's the best single player experience on a racing game I played this year. Handling on a pad is improved over 2016, feels really good for a simcade. If you enjoy dodging noob pileups online then you'd like its online part, gets your adrenaline pumping knowing you can get killed any time. Best to wait and see how patch 1.8 turns out.

My racing games for 2017 in order from most enjoyed to least:
F1 2017
WRC 17
Project Cars 2
Forza 7
Dirt 4

Indeed. Why pay full retail price for partially functional games?

I would wait for more patches and/or a deeper discount.

I don't like paying premium price for a dollar-menu burger, but a dollar-menu burger can hit the spot when I actually pay only a dollar for it.

Ronster, I'm like you, no time for the career mode, but I have a friend who has the game. We get on discord and play online career. We make all cars "equal" and have a ton of fun, excellent graphics, great sounds. Im using a logitec momo wheel, so it took some tweaking but works great. When friend not around I go online and race usually with 15 people and its wild as crashes and crasy drivers. Still alot of fun. Best realistic ive played in years. Enjoy.
