Teammate bug

Recommended Posts

"More BHP = more speed"
It's not that easy to be honest... More BHP also means that the throttle has to be modulated, otherwise the AI would just spin out, if they still go for the same amount of throttle they would just spin out every corner... So yes, there is an insane amount of different modulations possible... But I'm surprised that there is no script that can modulate this properly, as the traction control assist also modulates the throttle for the player no matter of how many engine upgrades you have...

Hi all,

I know you've all been asking about the teammate bug. Just to update you all: here at Codies we've spent a long time looking into this, and when the new R&D system was designed for F1 2017 certain constraints were placed upon the upgrades that the AI receive because of technical limitations. Our AI is trained to drive each car at each track, this is a time and computationally expensive thing to do for all the various combinations (track x car x weather x compound x tyre wear x fuel load). Training the AI to drive a car with many thousands of combinations of R&D parts applied by the player was deemed too risky and simply not possible in the time available so therefore the way that upgrades apply to the AI is not like for like with the player. Most of the time this system works well but in the case of engine upgrades it clearly has some deficiencies. The specific case of the McLaren because the Honda engine is down on power particularly highlights this issue. We’ve spent a lot of time looking at this issue, and, unfortunately it is simply not possible for us to fix this issue for F1 2017 because it would require too much time to fundamentally change the AI upgrade system, train all of the combinations and then test them adequately.

We apologise to those of you whose careers are being affected by this issue and will do everything we can to improve the AI upgrade system in the future.

Understood.

Perhaps in 2018, set the AI on a specific lap time for each track, and then alter speeds using separate 'if statements' or whatever it is you use. For example, say the tyre wear increases from 10% to 15% in one lap, then increase lap times by 0.300; or if set upgrade applied, increase all lap times by 0.150. This should be applied to each car separately, instead of having to drag the car in every combination. Say, for Belgium, McLaren time = 1:44:600. If upgrade X applied, McLaren time decrease to 1:44:500; or if tyre wear increase from X to Y, lap time increase to 1:44:800.

Personally I feel there may have been an easier way around this, but I'm not a developer.

Has anyone tested upgrades at McLaren only on the chassis and the aero ?? If the teammate follows the evolution, proves that this justification of CM is a lie !!

I first upgraded all my engine parts. Now I have half the chassis upgrades. With only the engine upgrades Alonso only was faster as Sauber, qualifying and finishing races around 17th-18th. With chassis upgrades  he qualifies around 12th-14th. Finishes mostly 16th or lower with no retirements.  I have no aero upgrades.

Edit: Alonso also did pretty well on Monaco the 3rd season. He qualified and finished 8th with a couple of chassis upgrades. Other tracks qualifying Q2 and race 16th+

Plus they could test it in 2017 so that it works perfect in 2018. Otherwise I got a strong feeling that it isn't fixed in 2018 either.

They just can't handle yearly releases. Too bad no other studio would want to develop it. Codemasters had 8 chances and they blew them.
Have suggested that going back to last year and probably the year before. Fixes for the next game can surely be tested in the current game via patch, we're talking about the same engine and a lot of the same code. Sheer stupidity stops them from doing it (not aimed at anyone on here, jenny, rachel, support etc. - the decision makers I mean.)

This proves that Jenny's explanation was nothing but bullshit! The teammate receives the upgrades of aero and chassis and does not receive from engine ?? Is the code different for this type of upgrade ?? It makes no sense !! We have to keep asking for clarification!

I have all the engine upgrades but also have all but a couple of majors and ultimates in Aero and all weight reduction but the ultimate. He’s actually not too bad now. He caught and passed a Mercedes for the win in Malaysia just yesterday which is quite impressive considering how down on power he is. On the minimap it’s quite alarming to see how quickly the close on him towards the end of the straight, but the upgrades have made him strong enough through corners so he can keep pace if ahead

Edit: in second half of season 4 107 AI

Thanks for the comment.

I'm done now with this game. Career is no fun with that bug. I'll will wait to buy any Codemasters game before I'm sure there are no such gamebreaking hugs. I don't have much faith in the next 3 F1 games
Tough times! Not easy for me as I like to get back from the hours I put in, re McLaren trying to get them up into points then moving onto another team like Williams to help them too. But at least I know now what is happening. I still play 2016 for career anyway but switching back to 2017 I know what to avoid to not waste time on performance that won't stay for the team on moving on. That is something.

@jennyannem
Thank you for a honest reply! Being open is much better than silence. It come late, but come.

Just let me remind you,  the game is broken for many and many years. Patience of many of us, your (mostly loyal) customers, has come to the end.
Including mine, but it is because the number of game breaking bugs in game is too high. Please next year, don't sell again an unfinished game. If you will release what you have now and simply fix everything (including this), your customers will be happy again ... EA is also releasing an old game core with new menu colors and very minor changes in gameplay, but the difference is, their games has no bugs which breaks the game, while in F1 I didn't have recently a race without any of the known bug to appear. Like SC is broken since it was added to the game, multiplayer is almost unplayable, desyncs of starting lights and teleporting during race, overtaking by AI as you are ghosted and many other bugs I've experienced in "every" race myself and then lost faith in the game.
As you are trying to become a big name in eSports, you could also rething if it is not a time to come with dedicated servers, to me it looks likes many things (like session management, desyncs - players, starting lights ...) can be fixed with that, also user's experience will be better as they players will have a better connection.  Clear p2p is over in games, because you can't assume players can connect to each other and host has no power (at least consoles uses 99% for graphics and physics) for being server ...

Your game has a big potential, but the experience is just very bad for people who undestand F1 and know what to expect. Many casual gamers will not find the bugs like this, as they are playing on low AI and 5 laps races (where it "doesn't matter" how is AI driving, just how many you can overtake and SC is not coming out) ... But we, who are driving a 50% & 100% distances of races and with harder AI, we have at least one bug in every race and it is really hard to play and don't lose a good mood ...

TL;DR: There is a lot of unfixed and recurring bugs in F1 game for many years and it is not fun to play ... Next year, please don't come with anything new, just fix and polish what you have and make it again fun and a game we want to play!

Okay.... So how about a refund for those of us who bought the game for career mode?

Good to know I can add Codemasters on my list of companies not to support right next to EA.
