Why I think F1 2018 may be the final F1 Game...

Recommended Posts

Let's take a quick summary of the past 5 F1 Games.

F1 2013, well designed, stronger AI for the time, and many fun modes. Game was hardly broken, and online was fun.

F1 2014. Let's be serious. Did they make this in 2 weeks? All they did here really was scrap the fun aspects and use F1 2013 as a template.

F1 2015. An improvement on 2014 for sure, with revamped AI and graphics. However, the game was majorly broken, with online, glitching walls and cars launching themselves for no reason.

F1 2016, a step forward on 2015 with AI for sure with a lot of bugs fixed and return of the SC. But still many glitches, especially online.

F1 2017. In terms of career and AI, a huge step forward. However, so many glitches made career very poor, and it was difficult to resort to online with the issues there. Also in my opinion, classic cars didn't work as well as anticipated.

My predictions for F1 2018 are stronger AI than now as well as improvements in career. However, I fear this will only bring more bugs and glitches which will make the game unplayable in both offline and online. I believe as 2018 will be worse in terms of glitches, Codemasters will have such a sharp fall in revenue and faith, 2019 will not be possible.

The only rescue mission I see here is employing some strong programmers, preferably from Nintendo, who can actually code and program well (let's be honest, the Codemasters programmers aren't amazing).

Thanks.

They're in a contract to do games until F1 2020. SO I doubt 2018 will be the last Codies F1 game. Can't believe I'm saying this but would love to see the license go to someone like EA because they actually make great games.

In my opinion if hypothetically Codemasters tried to hook up a partnership with some actual devs such as the ones of Kunos Simulazioni or Slightly Mad Studios, they'd have the little helping hand they desperately need to make a decent F1 game.

But in all honesty i'm done with Codies so i wouldn't care less if they lost the licence after 2018, there's plenty of alternatives available on both consoles and PC.....

At this point in time all I really hope for is competition.  LM hasn't confirmed exclusivity for CM to make F1 games.  Ian Bell confirmed no f1 license for SMS but I've not heard anything from Kunos or Reiza or EA.

They'll continue selling as long as people continue buying. There's no incentive to do better as long as doing worse remains profitable. Every purchase is a vote that says "give me more of this." So the real question is: which one was or will be your last? If you're thinking "I bet they learned a lot from all of this year's issues & feedback, so I'll give them one more chance next year," then the joke's on you.

I dont blame you for wanting to complain about this years game, but  isnt wanting to get started on complaining about next years game a little much? The damn thing isn't even made yet and not coming out until late next year.

Ultimately we know what will happen with 2018. No different than 17/16/15/14/13/12/11/10.

Seems to me like the best time to give input on the direction of a game is before it's complete... because when people complain after a game is released, they'll be told "it's too late for that now, the game is done & it's not gonna change, so stop complaining."

How on earth can you give a constructive complaint about things wrong in a game no one has even played yet? The thing isnt even made yet. You dont even know yet what is wrong with 2018 to have a constructive complaint about it. Read his comments again about 2018. This is a doom and gloom thread about 2018 just for the sake of making a doom and gloom thread about the next game.

How on earth can you expect constructive feedback to change much about a game that's already been released? Better to speak up before release while there's still time to change the next release. (Isn't that what betas are for - to get feedback before release?)

For me all these wish list threads are a big part of the problem because codies see them and start trying to cram more and more crap into the game.Just stick to the basics!  A single player with some substance and immersion like 2010 and a fully functioning and stable multiplayer like 2013 then you might have ya selves a game people can get behind. But yea I'm with the OP chances are all the same bugs we see year in and year out will return, hopefully everybody on here does vote with their wallet I know I will I won't be suckered in again by no beta.

SMS? LOL. At least F1 2017's setup saving works properly - PCARS2 devs are still yet to figure that one out.

AI in PCARS2 is the worst. Mainly because it depends on the combination of car and track. From one race to another, you need to change AI's ability. I think F1 AI is very good. It could improve on defending the position, but overall it's ok

If EA got the licence to make F1 games, all that R&D and car upgrades would be costing you actual money out of your own actual pocket.

Not to mention, that multiplayer mode would also be paid dlc, the game would be riddled with loot boxes And to be honest, R&D and car upgrades would probably be done with same kind of system, than what NFS Payback has. Cards. DD22KHz obviously want that to be the case... I myself don't want EA to be anywhere close to F1 franchise. Give it to SMS then, rather than EA.

AND SgtKubica: F1 games will never be (hopefully) exclusively made for 1 console, and 1 console only. If you REALLY want Nintendo to make F1 game, you know it would be released only for Nintendo Switch, which isn't bad "console" (let's face it, it really isn't "console", as it's closer to a handheld, than console) And even though it has sold ok numbers, it wouldn't be smart to make such game for only 1 platform anymore.

Haven't I seen threads about F1 2017 resetting the saved/loaded setups for some drivers before they start a race?

When I say Nintendo I don't mean change platform. I mean get a programmer from Nintendo and put him/her into Codemasters.

What will ultimately do it for F1 from CM is if the cost of the licence + cost of development will not be covered by sales.

What can they add into 18 to jazz it up enough to make people want to buy it over 17 ? Expanded classics mode ? Multi car career with GP2 ? Something else ? They must have something in the works now.

Edit : Probably VR

I don't know if just dropping someone in from Nintendo would help, you are talking about a company wide method for how they produce, test and release content/games.

We're not. You are.

Nobody is forcing you to click topics, read them, & tell others to stop talking about those topics.

Try this: if you're not interested in a thread's topic, just ignore the thread & go on about your day.

I want to inject myself before this gets out of hand! My aim of this thread wasn't to criticize Codemasters for the game they produce and market. My aim was to simply point out the issues and what I feel the solution is.

However, I believe this solution will not happen and this links back to the thread title.

I'd love to see some of the hypocrites here make a game with technology now, none of us would be able to think of how hard it is with a group of whingers on their case, they have added what we wanted, yes its not perfect but they ARE listening. What do they get, nothing but whinge, whinge, whinge
