F1 Halos 2018 et al.

Recall Codemasters that as a game F1 2018 should have the option to make the Halo invisible (not removed) to as not to impede the cockpit vista. As a game we're not primarily concerned with safety here! 

Again let me stress here, this is not a request to remove the Halo, but have the Halo on the car as required by the 2018 regulations, but in the cockpit view, which I drive in only, to make it invisible or visible from that view. I'm sure there is a property setting that can make this happen from a coding perspective. Also, when invisible from the cockpit view, when viewed from the outside of the car, the Halo should still be visible. This should make it really easy for Codemasters to implement.

Even if they dont add this feature, expect it to be released as a mod within the first week of release on PC haha.

That's seems like a weird request to ask an option to remove parts of the car. i can see maybe asking for an option to remove the steering wheel to replace it with yours or something, but parts of the car itself?  The antennas and everything else that's mounted right in the center of the drivers view on the nose already block your center vision anyway and the top post of the halo should be slightly visible at the top of your tv screen. No different than the top of a windshield being tinted with a banner across the top of it.  LMP drivers still have it far worse concerning vision than a F1 car with the halo. If anyone has trouble seeing then its because they are sitting to high up in the cockpit to begin with.

No way to implement binocular vision so who knows what they'll come up with. Centre posts hopefully as thin as possible if it's a solid rendering of it rather than transparent or something.

I dislike the Halo as much as anyone (not sure what "safety" issue they are trying to solve here, serious accidents are very rare in modern F1 and the halo will not put an end to them), but they can't exactly remove it. As real life F1 will have the halo, so will the game. I just hope they implement it well enough.

I think Codemasters have got a gem as tehy could let us fans who get the F1 2018 game customise it to make it look way better colour and decals would make this really nice and of course adding a few fins on it, this level of customising would be epic, I don't want the halo invisible I want the game as real as possible

Teams will have a bit of lee-way to color them up as they like, which will then need to be approved for the in game livery / aero design as usual so I can't see us having any options to edit the look of the thing other than a transparency slider.

The thing with the halo is, it would not have saved Ayrton Senna.  It would not have saved Roland Ratzenberger.  It would not have stopped Felipe Massa getting a fractured skull.  It would [probably] not have saved Jules Bianchi.  It would not have stopped Michael Schumacher and Johnny Herbert having both legs broken in a crash.  It *would* have trapped numerous drivers upside down in their car, lncluding Damon Hill, Martin Brundle, Derek Warwick, Fernando Alonso...

The halo is simply a token effort to improve safety, triggered by the death of Jules Bianchi, when in reality it will make little to no difference.  I honestly believe this thing is going to cause more problems than it solves.

Although I'm not a fan of the halo and do not want to see it, I'm going to use this as an opportunity to learn and develop with helmet camera. It'll give me a really good insight into the view of the actual driver.

no the halo itself probably wouldn't have helped those drivers, but other safety features that has been developed and designed on the car for the driver since then working together would have.  Besides jules,nothing would have helped him. Its the combination of safer suspension design, the high head rest around the driver, the hans device, tucking the driver down in the car and not have him exposed, and now the halo. You cant single out one of those and talk about safety because safety is all those things working together that adds the safety and the halo is just another piece of the puzzle that makes the whole picture.

It won't really, because the actual driver will be focused on a point well beyond the halo rendering it largely invisible, which you cannot do on a computer screen.

No, Jules Bianchis tragedy wasn't the cause of the Halo being enforced into F1 mate, the talks started all the way back in 2009 after Henry Surtees' fatal impact at the Brands Hatch F2 GP created a huge uproar in driver safety.

So in conclusion this isn't a socalled "kneejerk" reaction to Japan 2014 as many wrongfully claim, and the tests by the FIA did showcase that the Halo indeed would have been positive in the majority of crashes of the past, crashes that they carefully simulated one by one.

I disagree, why, because we don't need a transparency slider since the Halo is a part of the 2018 car and this is the "officially licenced" F1 game so Codemasters are obligated to represent the aspect of real life in terms of car design and officiality as close as possible, otherwise we could request a fantasy racing game that allows us to do whatever we want (Motorsport Manager fused with Codies F1 franchise would be one of the many results for example) couldn't we?

If your request was granted by Codemasters then what will come next?!

People wanting to be able to put V10 engines into the modern F1 cars, people wanting to get rid off the ridiculously huge tyres, people wanting to increase the height of the rear wing, people wanting to get rid off wheel thethers as crashes would look much cooler if the wheels went flying, people wanting to customize and swap around the whole grid as well as all cars to their likings.....

This is what mods are for!

The halo will disappear the moment a driver will be seriously injured or die because of it. Or drivers protesting against it. Otherwise it will come and stay. Not looking forward to it but will use it because of the realitity I'm looking for.

2. invisible halo/remove it from cockpit vision
3. Project CARs style blur filter, to soften the edges (as though you're focusing past it)
4. Alternative camera angles: t-cam/nose cam/halo cam

In all honesty i'm not sure if that is even the case if we keep in mind what Codemasters seem to be capable of.

Imo they probably either were lazy, incompetent and or didn't get the funding (or rather the green lights) by their higher ups in the leading and financial department to create a "perfect" F1 car model which wouldn't be a huge surpise by now.

Don't forget, the one and only F1 car in the whole history of Codies F1 franchise to be designed to perfection was a stolen mod from Assetto Corsa, the 2002 Ferrari.

PS: The case of the 2002 Ferrari car model is a huge scandal that still didn't get any closure by Codemasters nor by any officials.

They simply either forgot (highly unlikely as they seem to be very conscious about how to interact with people publicly and scan all the trends to be up to date), don't care as they got our money already (a possibility indeed as modern gaming studios are comparable to any bigger sophisticated economical company run by crooked business men rather than being a industry that is solely based upon creativity and innovation consisting of gamers and visionaires trying to create games to be played for centuries and beyond) and or hope to get through with this ridiculous stunt by keeping silent hoping that we will move on without asking (radio silence seems to work fine for them, right?!).

My bet is on the last one.

To be honest I don't like the halo but if it is on the F1 cars in real life then I don't want it to not be in the game. It's simple like people above have said, if you are able to get the game on PC then get it on PC chances are there would be a mod released very quickly to remove it, if not then I guess you'll have to cope. F1 has made some decisions that many of you may not like one of the most controversial being the engines however we seemed to have got used to hearing what quite a few people would describe as vacum's, we may not like it but we still got used to it. After playing the game for 2 weeks or so (if you do purchase it) you probably won't notice it. Sometimes I'll do a race and then I'll go into what I can an autopilot mode where I don't realise what I am doing and will day dream for a minute or two. It's a shame that we all seem to love F1 here but we are getting divieded by faults on both sides in terms of Codemasters (buggy games) and F1 (Some stupid decisions). If we go into the 2018 season with low expectations like I will it will have to be very very crap to get disappointed. If you've read all this way I thank you and have a nice day, I know I don't use paragraphs but I hope you can still understand as I have written in moderately-good English.

Cockpit view is the best and most enjoyable position to drive in. I'm not saying it's easy, but once you master, you get to experience the thrill of what F1 drivers have to experience and where your calibration skills comes into play and how important the rumble strip markings are in determining your corner turn in. That being said, test drivers have already complaining that the Halo is affecting their view of the race start lights.

Codemaster have removed parts before; in some years very obvious front aerials on the nose of some cars were missing in-game.

For the halo they could do one of these options:

1. semi-transparent option, so you can see through it

 then that puts the halo on the list with TC and ABS resulting in constant arguing an advantage is with either or on or off. The last thing we need is something else on that list. Also, there is only one driving view. If your using the other ones then you are playing a game about you watching someone else drive it on TV, not playing a game about you driving the actual car.

The request is not to remove it outright but, being that this is a GAME, provide the option to make it visible, or for a better term, translucent.  This would be similar to having the up-shift indicator function in Audio turned off or on. Similarly with the Halo if it impedes my view in cockpit, as a GAME we should have the option of having it become invisible, though in actuality it will still be concrete and will function in the game as it is designed to.

that isnt similar because that's just a beep. Your talking about seeing though something thats solid. I could debate that seeing thur something and it not being there equals the same result. Arnt we  supposed to be looking past it like the experience of driving the car would call for and be like?

Just highlighting FOne's point in the quote.

Options. Options are nice things. Lots of people like to play in a different way. You want to play it like you're in the car? You do you. I prefer playing cockpit and would leave the halo solid too but if others don't then what is the harm in the option for others to turn it off? Other people playing with it off will not affect anyone else in any way at all.

Rumor has it they may put a camera on the actual halo, so the only difference I see is maybe the T-CAM being higher. This way halo may be less of an obstruction.

its not really an obstruction in tcam. The view is above it.
