What are the differences between equal cars in online, and which is the best car for online?

Recommended Posts

Just like all previous F1 games (video about this in F1 2016 below) https://youtu.be/eFTkReTtMhc, in online races the cars don't drive equally with equal car settings. I haven't driven enough in all cars to say exactly how every car drives, but from the following 4 i do know it after having raced in them in league races: the Haas and Renault are very oversteery and horrible to drive with (heard this from others as well), while the Mercedes and Sauber don't have that oversteer and drive much better. From your experiences, what are the differences between equal cars in online, and which is the best car for online?

Well I agree with you partly, some cars are more oversteery than the others, but I haven't noticed any speed differences

In theory it is all a placebo. In the beta test we were told equal cars is the same performance as a Mercedes. Across the field. However, again I do believe each car ffels different and even aor standings show the toro rosso is one of the in theory faster cars. Or just the better drivers like myself choose it ;)

Didn't they always say that though? And then some patch was made because the transmission/gearbox wasn't equal.

Pretty sure every car in the game is the same. Pretty sure they are all just a Mercedes with a different livery. I feel like @haydn23 said, it's most likely just a placebo. I think because in Grand Prix Mode / Career, the cars do actually feel different, so we drive each one slightly differently. This reflects onto online eventually as we get so used to our different style for each car, and because it has the livery, our mind instantly tells us to adapt our driving style from grand prix / career onto online.

And what is with the AI drivers? Are they equal too in this configuration? I think they are different, true?

Different AI drivers have different skill levels. I don't think they get changed when setting cars to equal.

They definitely have a different feel to each car. Engine performance is the same, but handling varies.
While that's not kind of possible as the Codies' employee confirmed that they all have the Mercedes setup. I have never felt any different between the cars and during the beta I was able to do the same times in every car.

Some cars definitely have more understeer/oversteer feel if you use a wheel. It was that way last year as well. Several of my league racing friends agree, so it’s possible.

Purely affects the handling only, get a feel for each team car and find the one that best suits your style of racing, the performance is equal but having a better feel or feeling more confident in a certain car will help win you those all important faster lap times, generally speaking..
