[BUG] F1 2017 AI Overtaking During Yellow Flag

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I did a quick forum search and couldn't find anything pertaining to the relevant patch so have decided to make my own report.

Game: F1 2017
Mode: Career (50%)
Car and Race: Renault, Canada
AI: 97%

System: PS4
Patch: 1.11

Apologies for the lack of a video, but I tried to retell the story to the best of my ability.

Context (there is a tl;dr):
I am not the greatest of racers, but for some reason, during the rain I pretty much outperform every other AI on the track. I like rainy races. And this was how Canada started out, rainy, and perfect - this alone was probably the reason I was able to go from 6th to 1st before the 3rd lap had even started. At around lap 8 (out of 35), the heavy rain shifted to a lighter shower and Jeff informed me that it might be a good idea to switch to the intermediate tyres, so I complied. This then meant it was less rainy, so I was increasing my lead on Raikkonen by less and less each lap, but the key thing for me, was that it was increasing. This carried on until my next pit was due, lap 21. The rain had almost stopped, but Jeff was adamant the intermediate tyres were the correct tyres to be on. With Hamilton now overtaken Raikonnen, and slowly closing in on me, I knew that I would not be able to hold him off in the dry, so I decided not to stop. This worked like a charm, by delaying my pit-stop for a few laps, I allowed the track to dry up enough for slicks, while Hamilton and the rest of the field had pitted again for intermediates, giving me a solid 20 second lead. I quickly switched to the Super Soft tyres while the rest of the front of the pack switched to the Ultra Soft (I had used all of mine in Qualifying/Free Practice), this (in addition to my 90% worn ICE, and every other highly damaged component) then caused my lead to get smaller and smaller (by about a second a lap). On the 30th lap, I had but 7 seconds on Lewis, and he was closing, fast. I had no choice, however, I had to continue racing as fast as possible, so that is exactly what I did. I managed to hold out until the last lap, I had just gone round turn 10 and onto the huge straight, when to my delight, it turned out Lance Stroll had some sort of issue with his car just ahead, and had caused a yellow flag. Hoorah! There isn't a chance for Hamilton to get passed me when there was no overtaking... or so I thought. Unbeknownst to me, Lewis Hamilton rocketed past my measly Renault in his super fast Mercedes and took the lead, with only 2 corners left! How was this possible?! I had no idea. Unfortunately for him, however, he overtook me on the outside, leaving me the inside. I took to the brakes as late as humanly possible, and just about managed to squeeze past Hamilton, and causing him to back off. Yes! I had done it! I had retaken the lead and took the victory.

tl;dr
Hamilton tried a Bottas on me during the yellow flag and nearly cost me first place.

Anyways, I hope this has been informational, and if there's anything else you require please don't hesitate to ask.

Also just for good measure: @F1Support

So basically there is no bug? Sometimes drivers in real life are also trying to overtake during yellow flags. The penalties are the exact same for the AI, so if he would have held the position, he would have gotten a time penalty for an illegal overtake.

...because you overtook him before the timer had a chance to end...?

Overtake happened near the start of the straight, I retook the position going into the next corner, that's plenty of time.

What straight was it? I can't remember almost any straight that would take 15 seconds to go through.

Same thing happened to me in Silverstone around half of the race passed when there was a yellow flag i was in 1st and trying real hard not to overtake ocon in 20th and when he went to the pits vettel and raikkonen overtook me and the yellow flag stayed on for another 10 seconds and no penalty was given whatsoever and i had to settle for third.

The problem isn't the same as the original posters, as he overtook the cars before the penalty would've been applied.

I think that might be a case of you going too slowly, which gives the other drivers right to pass you. I think you can overtake blue flagged cars without penalties. Not sure though.

Same happens under SC.

But Codemasters don't seem to want to look into it.

Just for future, it would be nice to not see that much spam when clicking on a link (I'm referring to all of those posts made in the link)
