F1 2017 - PS4 w/ G29 wheel - How do you brake?

Recommended Posts

Good morning.  Brand new to the F1 series of racing games, despite owning Logitech wheels and a Playseats racing chair for years.

When I mounted the G29 wheel to the chair, I quickly realized because there is a "bar" that mounts the wheel to the chair between your legs... using the brake pedal was difficult.  It's a little too far to the right, so you have to kinda drive "pigeon toed" (basically with your left foot pointing to the right) to reach the brake and use the pedal.  Not only is it slightly uncomfortable, but all the changes I make with pedal distance, wheel position, etc... they weren't fixing it.

As a result, I discovered Playseats sells a "Big Brake Pedal" for Logitech pedals, that changes the clutch and brake to a single pedal.  Since the pedal was available through Amazon UK, and not the US, I had almost a month to wait.  In that time, I mapped the clutch to the brake, and while I didn't play F1 that way (JUST got F1 2017 yesterday from Amazon US)... I can say I prefer the smooth movement of the clutch as the brake to the "quick stop" feel the brake pedal has.  Doing some looking online, it seems people have found various ways to handle the "brake" not being quite how they like it.  I'd prefer not to modify my pedals, but after installing the single "big" brake that arrived yesterday, I can say that pushing on the clutch and brake as one... it definitely doesn't go down very far, and it seems to have LOTS more resistance than a real brake pedal would.

I may not have done the "right" searches here, but I did look for existing threads before posting.  Any opinions on how others have dealt with this are appreciated!!!

It's a known issue and other than just using your clutch you can adjust brake linearity, to make the pedal more sensitive. Also in other games like Assetto corsa you could possibly not push the brake all the way down to make it so it thinks 100% is a bit earlier in the pedal than it actually is (never tested it just an idea). One final thing is seating position, part of the racing irl f1 drivers can push 110kg of pedal force is cause of the way they sit they can use their body aswell. If you sat upright at a desks it's all that force going through 1 leg. So if possible you could adjust your seating position, other than that I can't think of too much.
