F1 2018 - Will we get a functioning, working safety car?

Agreed. I'd recommend keeping an eye on feedback from real users (not media reviewers or 'big' YouTubers & streamers) for at least the first month post-launch, because launch-day/week feedback is often overflowing with the climactic release of hyper-excited fans whose anticipation has been building for weeks/months and they're so ready to pop that they're already gushing the moment they see the game's initial title/menu screen: "OMG BEST GAEM EVAR!1!!" ...Not to mention, many bugs/issues only reveal themselves after lots of in-game progress (like problems occurring later in a single-player career/season, or only with 100%-length races, etc.), so it'll take some time for users to start encountering & reporting those glitches.

Many problems here on the forum never happened during my gameplay. Some problems here are highlighted but for me they are minor probs only (e.g. VR). 
Everyone is different and has different meanings about F1 2017. So what is the „real user“ i have to follow?
There is only one chance. You have to try the game and maybe you like it or you don‘t. I never made my decisions based on user reviews.

I do wish Codemasters would have an official bug reporting log. One where the user has to fill out various details such as what system they’re on, what track and session it occurred, what aspect of the game the bug falls under, also video footage if possible etc. 
Surely it can’t be ideal for them the way it’s currently done on these forums?

anyway, on the topic of the safety car. I hate to say it but I think the only way it will be finally fixed and fully functioning as it should be is if the game gets reworked from the ground up on a new engine, or just taken out and then recoded back in from scratch (which is probably easier said than done). 
who knows though, maybe we’ll all be in for a pleasant surprise this year as very little details on the new game have been revealed in the way of tweaks and improvements :smile:

I did have an interesting one the other day in a race in Baku with torrential rain. Jeff kept telling me I was authorised to pass the car in front but as soon as I did I was told I’d be given a penalty if I didn’t give the place back, can’t win sometimes :neutral:

Understood. Good explanation. But you see also on this point we have different approaches. Thats the problem which makes hard for me to follow others for my decision of purchase or not. But for a general overview it is a good start.

I bet they will not get it working properly unless they start over completely.

That’s the problem. In single player SC works way better. I would say the single player is really good. Sure there are few things that have to be improved, but it is nothing compared to the bugs most of the leagues „enjoy“ online.

Implementing such a system would require more staff to be employed which Codemasters either cannot or will not do. Even if it was implemented, their awareness of bug reports from non-high-sub-YouTubers so far showed us that they are not really reliable for dedicated bug fixing.

Sadly, this is fact.

Them having so many issues with the games F1 2015-17 shows that their fundament, the game engine, is not very well done.
Same reason why Bethesda Game Studios has a lot of bugs in their games for example. Their engine from Fallout 4 is very old, like really old.

that happens to every game because every feature in the game works together as a whole. Messing with one feature effects how good the rest of them work also. Thats just how coding works.

I had that too, in the dry... I was trying to overtake cars that I was to lap who did not proceed past the safety car. other times if I am slightly too slow, cars that are behind me in position overtake me. I try to overtake them and get the warning. it is very simple code to rectify these problems and test for paramaters and conditions in the code, in game or better still, in testing, if that takes place at all.

It is frustrating, I remember the very first time I encountered the problems with the safety car in the game, I think I was just so shocked and in disbelief saying to myself “hey! They can’t do that!?!”
Now though I’m a lot more wary of things going wrong so pretty much hit the mid session save as soon as the safety car comes out and after every lap just to be safe, not ideal though

I'm half expecting no safety car. Can't remember which game it was but when they introduced it a few titles back it had bugs back then, the next game they removed it. ?

They introduced safety car in 2011. It never got removed it just wasn't included in F1 2015 because they had to make a new game on new engine for 'new gen'. So i guess they didn't have time to inlcude it in. Atleast that was their excuse.

Not sure how it works there a better organised outfit would have something in place after the games release. For example, parts of the team could be separated into a colour coded group for bug fixes while the other works on a season update for the cars if nesscessary. Once everything is complete they go back to what they were doing before that updating the game engine, development etc.
