Engine sputter behind a car....normal?

Recommended Posts

New at this sim racing so hello and bear with me as I learn!...That said, I was in a race where I was placed 20th on the grid and was running up the gear boxes of the cars in front but the engine seemed to sputter as if I was hitting the rev limiter. Seems odd to me as in my real life experience this never happens for obvious reasons, but is this a thing put into the game to prevent passing? Only way to avoid is to go off the racing line then regain the ability to accelerate. Yes I know passing requires a bit of offline movement but this issue kills inertia....I am to assume this is only in lower AI difficulties?   Thanks!

Not sure it has to do with lower AI difficulties. Hitting the rev limiter makes sense but never experienced that in game, anyway not while lining up to overtake. And I suppose they didn't implement "dirty air" in game. I believe the brake assists only operates during cornering, not to avoid collisions.

I never let a tethered wheel bouncing around stop me from winning! wink wink.............
That said, after playing around with this issue, it also happens when I get offline in the grass so I am thinking traction control is the cause. Yet to rule that out however.

Check if your brake assist is on. Doesn't seem to be the issue for me.

As for the brakes, that makes no sense as I am on the throttle not the brakes.

Well I mentioned AI because this did not or I did not experience this in career mode, most likely because I am a back marker in that mode. Thanks!

I don't use traction control, so I couldn't tell if that's the trouble maker. Could be however.

Do you race with the brake assist on? I really think that might be the issue.

Sounds like possibly what @MJB5990 has suggested. If AI are relatively low and Brake Assists is on its going OTT to keep you out of their gearboxes!

Tried with Traction control on / medium and that doesn't seem to be the case. Check your settings and find out what assists is on. You'll have your answer.

Based on my driving style I am inclined to agree with you, but I will just go with these AI drivers just hate when I win! ...In racing, if you have no EGO, retire your helmet!

Thanks I will look into making some setting changes as suggested.

Thanks for looking into this. I will do just that.

Would be nice to get an answer what exactly caused the problem. That can help others experiencing the same issue.

Yes indeed. I have been busy with urgent care for  mother. I will post as soon as I get a chance to sort it out.

I gave the TC a shot and it was of no help. Lowered the brake setting as @MJB990 suggested and it did seem to be that it is an automated precaution to keep one out of the rear end.
