Which system is most active?

Recommended Posts

New F1 fan and new to this series as of F1 2017. Might be a noob question, but which system is most active in multiplayer, XB1, PS4 or PC? Trying to decide which system to get 2018 on. I know sometimes it's a mess online, but I've also had many fun races so far. I got 2017 for XB1 but I'm curious which system would see the most multiplayer traffic. I'm always up for a competitive online race.

I'd imagine it'll likely be one of the consoles but as to which one I haven't got a clue as I don't touch multiplayer

Get it for the Xbox One X if you have it. It'll look and perform much better.

comparison vids between ps4 and xbone show 2 differences..checkerboard for scaling on xbone, and ps4 shadows look like stencils (xbone look more real as they are soft with smooth edges).  other than that they are identical

You're talking about 2017, bud. The game was developed before the One X was even conceived. It was developed for the PS4, PS4 Pro, and regular Xbox One. The One X Enhanced patch was added after the launch of the console, and yet still delivered a more realistic looking image as well as better performance and less screen tearing.

Lee Mather at E3 said that this year they were able to take advantage of the powerful hardware of the One X, so just as we see with all other games, the One X will be the significantly superior version. The gap will certainly be bigger for 2018.

Well Sony's PS4 is outselling Xbox One by a lot. I think it's 2:1 or something like that. That says it all.

I've got my Fanatec wheel with PS4 support, so I'll go for the PS4 version. I could buy the Xbox wheel for my Fanatec base, but then I would have to unmount and mount different wheels depending on which platform I want to race on, which is tedious. Too bad there's no truly multi-platform-compatible wheel on the market.

If I remember correctly those figures are 3 year old figures.

I think it's as of 2017 if I'm not mistaken but it probably hasn't changed a lot since. Pretty sure Playstation still has by far bigger player base.

Either way, it doesn't say it all.

Some of the larger sales volume markets aren't very popular for F1. 75% of copies are sold in Europe, compare that to only about 5% in the US. When you look at total subscribers, its something like 70M PS4 active users, 26M PS Plus subscribers, Maybe 50M active XBL subscribers.  I think the last figure I saw had F1 selling at least 2:1 on PS4 versus Xbox. But how many are active online racers? So its not as simple as saying "PS4 had sold more by 2016" so will have more F1 racers for online multiplayer. If you already have an Xbox one, I don't think moving to a PS4 (and the associated costs) guarantee that you will find more active lobbies.

You are definitely right but it's a fair assumption. It's not like Fifa 2 years ago when Xbox had something extra(Icons) that Ps didn't. And still PS wasn't far behind. Now, it's 3:1 for PS on Fifa so. It's exactly the same game on 2 different consoles with much bigger player base on PS so you can always assume that but ofcourse could be wrong like you said.

I as a PS4 user can guarantee that even now, couple weeks before the new game can still find full lobies very quickly on F1 2017.

Ps4 is by the far the most active, you can immediately see it at the amount of lobby's on ps4 & xbox. Ps4 is also outselling xbox one by more than 2 times

I like that signature of yours at the bottom , means you know something that most of us plebs dont know.

When are you guys allowed to divulge anything ?

After launch ?

That's pure Dr Disrespect theft  ;)

Nothing we can say but, anything that we could report now would be kinda unfair as I could complain about a specific topic, and by release they could have fixed it, or I could wax lyrical about something I think is awesome that they change with a patch on release.

We try some things and report back, and they provide specific things they'd like us to look out for, nothing out of the ordinary.

For some specific topics the respective Dev teams have been very vocal and have explained some of their ideas and how things work to a high level. That's been cool.

Standard politicians answer.

Not sure about multi-player activity but ...PC > XBone/PS4
Better than the PS4 Pro, for sure. Not always better than the Xbox One X.

Gears of War 4

In terms of pure image fidelity, it surprisingly looked better than our high-end gaming PC equipped with a GTX 1080 running the game maxed out, as it offered extra dynamic shadows that don't seem to be available on the PC.

Forza Motorsport 7

Essentially, the Xbox One X looks to be delivering the ultra-high-end experience without compromising performance, and as a result the game looks and feels great to play. It's shaping up to be the real deal - a native 4K60 racing game that features top-end PC quality visuals but on a console.
