Flashback Options

Recommended Posts

My 8 year old son loves playing the game, but we are struggling to get the balance right between fun and challenging due to the issue of flashbacks.

Flashbacks are either on or off. Turning them off means every time he makes a mistake and spins it's effectively race over. Leaving them on means every small mistake he does, he flashes back and ends up winning easily.

Could Codemasters consider adding the option for a limited number of flashbacks per session? Say 3 or 5? I believe this used to be the case on F1 2015, but was removed for some reason. This would give a better balance, and would mean he could only flashback for the big mistakes, or if he believes a mistake was the fault of the AI etc.

I Would Love To Have The 3 Or 5 Flashbacks Back As I Feel Like I Use Them Because They Are There Which Means I Hardly Ever DNF If I Have A Big Crash Or Brake My Front Wing Because I Can Flashback For Free

I'd also love this for myself.  Turn flashbacks off is such a big commitment and I'm not interested in losing a race due to something the AI did, which in this game is very possible as the AI is crazy.  However, it's too easy and also too tempting to abuse.  Sometimes I need more self control, but the game could also provide increased control...

I Have them on in case the AI does something stupid Aswell but in the end I Just use them If I miss my braking zone and slam into the back of someone

I also miss the limited flashback feature from previous releases. I am usually pretty good about accepting the consequences for my own mistakes, but with some of the AI flaws it's nice to have the option.

Also on that point, I still wish they would give us the option to turn off the dramatic slow motion after an impact. I don't care if the damage is already terminal, I want to watch the incident unfold until the VERY END, in real time, with some level of control still intact. I also want the option to flashback at ANY POINT during a crash, and not have to wait for the slow motion to end before I get the option.

The Slow mo can get really annoying at times as you want to see it as it is

Let him learn from his mistakes.   so he has an accident, no big deal, just go to the next race.   over time he'll get better and better with practice.

I've been playing F1 games since Chequered Flag on the ZX Spectrum but I make mistakes from time to time and imo it's best just to shrug your shoulders and move on.    if you have flashbacks turned on then it pretty much ruins the game for you.. all the challenge goes out of the window.

yeah it was in 14 and earlier games where you were limited to using flashback a number of times. Personally I just count how many I use per session and after I pass that number that result regardless of whether I make any more mistakes stands. The only time I let myself completely off the hook is at Monaco but only because I find that track excessively hard anyway. But everywhere else I always keep track of how many I've used.

I’m trying to get him to turn them off, but he understandably gets frustrated with himself if he spins out when doing well. It dents his confidence too.

He’s practising, and getting better. Taking the assists off one by one. Eventually he’ll be good enough to play consistently with no flashbacks. I just think a compromise option from Codies would be best all round really.

I think that's brilliant, dad encouraging his son on this game.  And I can understand the young man's frustration as well. Bless!!
I remember those bygone days when I was a novice, at a very advanced age, may I say, and it took me a while to get the settings to my satisfaction to start with, then progress patiently taking off assists bit by bit.
Looking at some of the guys' comments on here, I'm glad I play solo, cos they would whoop my derriere if I was to try and take them on in an online game.
I'm sure with patience, your son will progress to be as competitive as the hardened racers on here, and will be as competitive.  :)
