I seem to keep fiddling with the settings but I guess the view varies from car to car. I seem to prefer being fairly upfront and close to the wheel but I find when I adjust it and sit fairly far back the view looks better and the halo column looks smaller but I find it slightly less immersive and difficult being sat so far back :)

I like that -i t is great for seeing the mirrors. I think the driver would probably be sitting a little lower as the wheel is normally about chin height.

Very different from my cockpit settings - I have the camera very close to the wheel it almost takes up all the bottom of the screen. I can't see the mirrors and the top of the halo just blends in with the top of the TV screen.

The height of the Driver is correct.
As a rule of thumb: the mirrors HAVE to be on eye Level as written in the FIA regulations.

The one with Hulkenberg doesn’t seem right to me. It doesn’t seem to replicate real life FOV. I’ve searched quite a few different ones and there are more like the Rosberg one over any other, so that got the majority of the vote for me. Unless we get someone in here that’s has sat in a f1 car with a helmet on then it’s anyone guess.

That´s the real cockpit view. Looking to the front, the driver see just the up half wheel and don´t see the mirros. I play like that. This settings for the camera compensate the space beetween the TV and your eyes.

I get where you guys are coming from from with the mirrors but most of those videos and pictures don't give you the full view of things. I've went off all of these -

You can't use this as a bench for what the true view looks like. I just tried to get the distance from the eyes to the wheels and include the gap in-between.

This is not what you see out of the cockpit. ^^^^^

I mashed everything together to try get the right distance of everything. Most the pictures I looked at you can see most of the wheel and I tried to incorporate that into it. No matter if the mirrors were in or not. I don't even look at the mirrors.

I'll have another play with it to see if I can make it better and pop in on a video to see what you guys think.

I have mine set to see about half of the steering wheel with my eyes in line with the mirrors. Through a combination of fov and moving the seat forward...as well as the vertical slider obviously.

This is why you can not successfully replicate the halo unless you have VR.

For example hold your finger up in front of eyes where the halo would be, you’ll find your eyes move around it and you can see fine, now close one eye and hold your finger in the middle of where the other one is looking - you’ll now find you cannot see the same, much like on your tv.

This is no different to real life/VR and playing on a tv screen.

Until Codemasters bring VR the cockpit with a halo will be redundant and not realistic of the real life

Really cool video. Might have a play around tomorrow and give some of them a go. My only problem is I’m playing on a pauper 30 inch tv sat 6 feet away so kind of need the closer FOV setting to clearly see my braking reference points :)

Anyone have setting  for the Torro Rosso  in cockpit view . I can't see the mirrors. .Thankyou
Overall - for many, if not most of the cars, this is a problem - which is why in other threads you are seeing people putting in a request for a virtual mirror

This was very helpful - looks like the road horizon is about a quarter a way up the halo stem. What are the settings you use? Thanks

It's frustrating that we don't just get an FOV calculator.  We should be able to enter our monitor dimensions, and our eye distance from the monitor, and have the FOV automatically set correctly.

Thanks for the link. I remember seeing this ages ago and gave it a try. It came back with a hugely zoomed FOV but understandable considering I’m only on a 30 inch tv and sat abour 6 feet away :(

Ill probably see what it suggests as a guide and then adjust to taste somewhat.
