gearbox penalty bug or not???

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this is a bug or if the development team just don't know the rules of f1 both are plausible,

so to the problem I have just changed my gearbox after completing 5 races so I should get a five place grid penalty, but instead I have been given a 10 place penalty.

and here's what the sporting regulations say

23.5 For the purposes of this Article only, an Event will be deemed to comprise P3, the qualifying practice session and the race.

  a) Each driver may use no more than one gearbox for six consecutive Events in which his team competes. Should a driver use a replacement gearbox he will drop five places on the starting grid at that Event and an additional five places each time a further gearbox is used.   Any replacement gearbox will only be required to complete the remainder of the Event in question.   Unless the driver fails to finish the race (or is unable to start the race for reasons other than a penalty imposed by the stewards) the gearbox fitted to the car at the end of the Event must remain in it for the remainder of the six race sequence.  Any driver who failed to finish the race at the first, second, third, fourth or fifth of the six Events for reasons which the technical delegate accepts as being beyond the control of the team or driver, may start the following Event with a different gearbox without a penalty being incurred.   A gearbox will be deemed to have been used once the car’s timing transponder has shown that it has left the pit lane.

edit I'm playing on the x box 1

If this is your only gearbox change then yes that doesn't seem right. It does say that any other gearbox change will incur another 5 GPP (which would make it the 10 you got)

Hi there, I might not be @Hoo, but I can provide an answer if that helps?

This is a bug and we do have a fix in test at the moment. I'll try to get you more info as I get it. Thanks all!

In my career race at Azerbaijan I had to change the gearbox (which is fair enough) but I got a 10 place grid drop for changing that component! As per F1 rules it should have been a 5 place grid drop!

I am on the 1.04 patch on Xbox. Driving for the Sauber F1 team

Anybody else had this issue?

  • Every unscheduled gearbox change will require a driver to drop five places on the grid at that meeting.

  • Meanwhile, each driver is permitted to use only a limited number of power unit elements – of which there are six types – during a single season. The limits are three ICE (internal combustion engine), MGU-H (motor generator unit-heat) and TC (turbocharger), and two ES (energy store), CE (control electronics) and MGU-K (motor generator unit-kinetic). Should a driver use more than this, a grid penalty will be imposed.

  • The first time a driver uses an additional element over and above the prescribed limits, a ten-place grid penalty will be given. If he then uses other additional elements a five-place penalty (or penalties) is imposed. Use yet a further example of any given element and another ten-place penalty is received – and so on.

Your first point is correct, it involves the gearbox. Your second point talks about engine parts, not the gearbox.

hmmm. You are correct. I didnt read it carefully. Then why did you get 10 place penalty? Unless codemasters implemented it wrong

Hi there,

I've merge a couple of threads together as I believe they are the same issue. Hi @Woerden, please see my post above about this item. Thanks!

Bug or oversight because you guys actually don’t know the rules and regulations of F1?

a 5 place instead of a 10 place for gearbox seems like a simple code to write.
