Any chance of a Virtual RearView mirror?

Recommended Posts

Any chance of introducing a virtual rearview mirror across the top in Cockpit View mode? Or maybe 2 small ones on the edges of the screen that we can move to make it a little bit more realistic/authentic?

On PS4 and obviously with one screen it’s impossible to see the wing mirrors with a correct FOV setting. To have any chance of seeing a bit of the mirrors, you need to set your driving position so far back that there may as well be a rear wing camera option ?

I know we can map buttons on the wheel but with ERS and DRS and fuel mix and MFD controls and Pit limiter etc etc...... I need a wheel with 50 buttons!!!

There is always a chance but it will look ugly and there will be a frame rate hit.

If if it does get implemented there needs to be an off/on toggle because I don't want it.

I think DGreco said it was removed from the game due to being "too ugly" in an interview or something like that? Maybe I was dreaming.

Or maybe they left it out to add a sense of realism.
I get that F1 mirrors are difficult to see out of but not being able to anything is UNREALISTIC! As I said, if you have VR or triple screens I’m sure it’s not a problem to see your mirrors when in cockpit cam. But it’s impossible with a single screen and a realistic FOV. A toggle mirror or mirrors would fix it he issue. That way, for people who only care about what’s in front of them, don’t have to turn it on.

If you have a 21:9 screen you can see your mirrors in cockpit cam.
I‘m driving with t-came (yes i know. Shame on me) and with my FOV i can’t see the mirrors due to the halo.

Cockpit viewing the mirrors with the look left / right buttons mapped just takes practise, are you going to be as fast or is it going to be as easy as t cam with proximinty arrows NO hence why 99% of streamers drive in t cam all assits all over the screen, even though they label thier streams as no assits, its a assit making the game easyier for you.

Using buttons to look left and righ is one thing but have the buttons to available to be able to do that is another story all together?

I hate driving in T-Cam. It feels so unnatural and makes the game feel more arcade than Sim. I have an F1 style rig ans Fanatec gear. To me it just feels wring to have spent all this money on all this equipment only to then drive in T-Cam. May as well just sit back on the couch and use a controller.

How many buttons do you have your wheel ?, if you want SIM some games you need to comprise depending on the options avaible to you, id love to be able to race online but with no option to force cockpit its just a un level playing field racing t cam drivers.

I have the Fanatec PS4 P1 Wheel at the moment. I also have a McLaren GT3 wheel but it’s faulty and trying to get it sorted it out. Eventually if Condemasters fully support that wheel on PS4 where we can use the Rotary switches/dials then it won’t be an issue. But currently, I feel like mapping buttons to ERS control, fuel mix, pit limiter, controlling MFD, DRS are more important.

I love your idea of being able to force ‘Cockpit’ view for online races. That would be awesome if we could do that.

Lucky boy I heard thier very nice wheels, and that McLaren GT3 would love something like that, same issue with the Logitech G920 no support for the LSB or RSB buttons, not ideal but got Brake Bias and Diff settings on my H shifter,

Your the minority :) I set up a poll but didn't do a very good not many voted, I understand its not a popular view but not having that option in online lobbys kills online for me, unless your racing with like minded friends in a private lobby.

Well I manage to look left and right with the buttons available on my wheel and have zero rearward visibility problems...and zero problems mapping whatever else I need to the buttons available. Go hard or go home!

You’re the best bro ?
Btw, I already race from home

It's actually a critical bug that there aren't any way to see what's behind you. Especially in online racing, because competitors have a higher risk of making errors than the AI.

I don't know what the developers were thinking - if they were thinking at all ...

But I guess the racing will be realistic, because close racing will be impossible (like in the real F1).

The virtual rear mirror is the most required feature for those like me who play on cockpit camera. I really wish they add it soon in the next patches. with the AI being aggressive we need to see where they are coming from. I don't always notice the arrows.

Yes I agree, it is crucial and needs to be optional!
Codemasters needs to at least reply.
In one of the threads @Faya said she was going to forward this on - but that was a couple of weeks ago.

For me the lack of virtual mirror is biggest problem in this game. Bugs are small problem alongside this. Just ridiculous...I like the game, but can´t understand what they were thinking.

I dont think the original Xbox or Ps4 can accommodate a Virtual Mirror as the game has been already optimised without it, the fps hit is likely to large and any reduction in game detail will have people coming at codemasters with pitchforks.

Adversely including a Virtual Mirror that induces an fps hit even if it's included as an on / off option will still have people coming at them with pitchforks demanding the game be optimised better to accommodate it blah blah. Then people will argue back saying that they dont want a VR Mirror and don't want any graphics details lowered.

I feel since the game has been launched and optimised without a VR Mirror on all platforms that it is simply now going to be a topic that codies can't really address without causing more outrage further down the line somewhere, so it will likely be another avoid / ignore case.

I'm curious on how that works, on the PC mirror quality has a heavy impact on FPS even without the mirrors fitting on screen, which would suggest that the mirrors are being calculated fully even though it's not on screen.

Turning the virtual mirror option on games like AC doesn't affect FPS in any significant way, since it's the same image the regular mirrors already display, it doesn't need to be rendered twice you know.
