AI putting up impossible lap times

Recommended Posts

So not sure if this has happened to anyone else, but I have run into this glitch a few times already in career mode. During a session, the AI will be posting competitive lap times lap after lap, (most recently happened in Monaco for sake of argument 1:12 - 1:14) then all of a sudden when I look at the timing screen, a few AI drivers have posted lap times ranging from 56 to 59 seconds! It usually happens during the practice sessions and not qualifying which is good, but still annoying nonetheless. Is this a known glitch?

Yes, that is a known issue. It already happened in F1 2017, but reeeaaallly really rarely. It seems like it has become worse this year, because I've seen a few threads here already about this topic. It's as if the AI skips an entire sector (for example the third sector in Monaco), hence the ridicoulus lap times. I think it only happens in practice, but nevertheless should be fixed.

I think it's very common.
I tried career yesterday, and it happened in the very first practice.
And later in the very first qualifying I got the wet and drying whereby the ai did 100% bone dry times i.e. roughly 3 seconds faster than possible.

Did they do those times while you were on track or when you were fast-forwarding?
Cause I've noticed when you're fast-forwarding the game simulates AI times only based on the tyres the AI is on and not the track conditions. So they post times as if the track was completely dry even if it's still somewhat wet. That's why I don't fast-forward in changable conditions, because I just get screwed over by impossible AI lap times. When I'm out on track the AI times are reasonable, but as soon as I skip ahead a bit they drive 3-5 seconds faster even though that's impossible because of the dampness of the track.

I doesn't happen when you accelerate or skip to flying lap/garage. It only happens when jumping to the end of the session. If you accelerate even at max speed it doesn't happen, I've done it hundred times this year and last year. It's better to accelerate than skipping to the end: it will only cost you 30-40 seconds...

@sirio994
Trust me, it happens. Then how else would you explain what happened to me?
It's wet, but not wet enough for Inters. Hulk is out on supersofts. I watch his first lap. I skipped two minutes ahead. His second lap is 5 seconds faster. I watch his third lap. It's the same as his first lap.
Same thing with leaving the garage by the way. When I get control of the car in the third sector some guys have finished their lap and were several seconds faster. Afterwards they are just as fast as everyone else.

In the rain if you jump to flying lap it puts you in a bad place where you are slower. I had a qualify days ago where Bottas went out first, I was second. Bottas was 1 second faster than me and I was 2.8 seconds faster than the third. In the same situation if I jump to flying lap the game puts me in 5-6th place where I could easily be 4 seconds slower. At that time I accelerated and nobody came close to that time. The same can happen in a wet to dry session when at the end the track is dry. It happened multiple times that I was the one seconds faster because my lap was the last of the session. In changing conditions is better to be on track but in stable conditions (even rain) you can accelerate without problems.

I don't know if I'm on track at the right time but I have never experienced this issue without skipping to the end. And my experience says that in game the track can change and be slower or faster by seconds even compared to the driver in front or behind.

Maybe I'm always on track in qualify in changing conditions. I always jump to qualify so it could be a FP issue...

The practice issue involved skipping. The qualifying was accelerated time. Two separate bugs
