Car Progression - Career Mode

Recommended Posts

I've played a full season of career mode with Haas, on 105 AI difficulty. At the start of the second season, the Haas is now the fastest car on the grid, and we are miles ahead in the Chassis department and top the power unit and aero departments. I don't think the rate of development has been realistic. The first few races of the second season, we've recorded comfortable 1-2 finishes. I feel like I now need to restart my career with a lower ranked team, just to get a nice competitive career experience, because barring a huge regulation change overhaul, we are going to walk the title this current season.

Does anyone else have a similar feeling, or has my experience just been unique to me?

You could also try slowing down your upgrades. Just because you have the points doesn't mean you have to upgrade the car as quickly as possible.

How did you do in first season. I think winning races or getting miles above where you should finish gives a massive points bonus so if you have ai to low it just makes you run away with it each season. In the haas in first season you should be aiming to finish around the points. 9th-15th. If you are finishing above that then the difference from you to top cars might make it feel like good battle but actually you should be no where near the top 5

That's no fun though, Getting your team to the top should be as much of a challenge as the racing itself in my opinion. I read in the 1.06 patch notes that some tweaks have been made to the AI R&D progression, hopefully that means they develop at a quicker rate now. Perhaps @Faya could explain?

You should keep some points available anyway if you want areas not to fail when regulations come into effect. They are half cost but the cost increases with every item. I am curious what difficulty players use to how easy they develop? I think many players try for a difficulty they can win races on with even using low performing cars, rather than a difficulty that compares much more to the teammate or relative to the teams natural performance goals.

I always go for a difficulty that matches my teammate, I want to push hard to beat him and sometimes fail, for me that's been between 105-110 depending on the track. But even with some bad results, a couple of DNF's and some lost rivalries I had all the reams rep. maxed out by the end of season and still developed the car at pretty much double the rate of the AI.

I needed to stop developing on purpose to avoid a completely dominant car after a while and spent points on things I didn't need or want to compensate such as durability, department efficiency etc. I also thought it was too easy to protect upgrades before a rule change, I would've liked the challenge of not being able to protect everything but 7-8 races at half price to secure upgrades is just a bit much.

What I'm gonna do next after (hopefully) winning at least one of the two titles with Renault, is I will restart my career mode or start a new file and then just don't buy any quality control or cost reduction upgrades. That way when we do get a new upgrade it feels more like an achievement than doing it the easy way. I usually buy at least two or three quality and cost upgrades first and then the actual upgrades, but after about one and a half or two seasons my team is always way better than every other team and I end up just buying reliability upgrades or non at all, just to have competition.
Does anyone know how the AI R&D progression has been changed in the 1.06 patch?

Instead of going for major upgrades in a short time span, try to be more realistic. I'm driving for Sauber & most of my resource points I've spent on Durability. I'm at German Grand Prix & have bought 2nd level parts for all components. I'll finish 3rd & 4th level in gearbox before concentrating on other departments. I've bought a few parts (minor & major) in the other departments but don't want to go on a spending spree as don't want my Sauber car to be ahead of the field already.

In F1 2017, it was possible to only get the car higher in the pecking order after 2 seasons but in F1 2018, we can buy major upgrades sooner. I prefer a steady growth which makes career progress more realistic!

It would be a hard thing to balance, I imagine they made it possible to be quite quick to R&D up for the players who only do a couple of career seasons?
I'm finding once I upgrade the bonus parts (fail rate and cost decrease) that it can go fast but then I do all practice at the moment, I just have a few durability parts to do then on to Williams or Toro Rosso, which ever is lower in the ranks at the time for a bigger challenge. And I won't do any practice, see how that goes..
But the regulation changes do help a lot. Not just to mix up the grid either!

Yeah I've been watching Aarava's career and his grid now is really mixed up Mercedes are nothing more than a midfield team atm. It's mainly been Ferrari his team Haas and Red Bull  running the show with McLaren of all teams not far behind. The Merc's aren't looking good at all. :Looking forward to starting mine will probably do so soon when I get in and play some Fifa and have a bit of a sporty spell as I'm looking forward to playing the new Fifa too.

I like the mixing up, but climbing from 5th team to 1st team in 1 season should not be possible..

I think they only designed that way for those that only want to do short careers as I said before but the nit's been done in real life so why it can't be in the game I don't know as we already know that Leclerc is a Ferrari driver next year with Kimi moving the other way. Leclerc hasn't got any wins under his belt yet although he's had a lot of good performances considering the car he's driving but still we can't exactly say it's not realistic. If you put in good performances then why shouldn't you be given the chance to drive for a top team it doesn't really matter how long you've been driving I don't think.

Not talking about the contracts. Talking about the progression here. It’s weird to make Haas top team within one season isn’t it?

No tnecessarily you remember the Honda car the year or couple of years before Button and Barricfhello won in 2009 it was a terrible machine struggling at the back of the grid yet in 2009 it became one of the best cars on the grid under the Brawn name before the team became Mercedes so it can happen. Weird perhaps but certainly very possible

That is your career complete job done then. fully upgraded ferrari engine is gonna be quick. Only thing you can do is max the difficulty.or start in the mclaren and be a milk float down the straight.

But that’s the exception, whilst in f1 2018 this is common practice.

Solution = up the diff. to 110 maybe
He'd have to start over though to do that.
Why ?
You can't up the AI difficulty during a save, can you?
I can't, it's all greyed out and I can't change it.

Perhaps but it shows it can be done given the right circumstances.
