AI Too seem too physically aggressive yet surprisingly easy to force a mistake or overtake

Recommended Posts

I'm getting a bit frustrated with the AI, and it's a big part of my experience as I play a lot of career.
So far, it's like playing in an online lobby. The AI are so un-sighted. Blue flags mean nothing, practice sessions included. They just do what they want, they cut you up, ram into the back of you etc etc.

I run 105 AI and it seems to suit my skill level quite nicely, but still on many occasions the AI will not only collide with you when trying to overtake or defend (I race very cleanly leaving plenty of space and don't make rash overtakes). but they just don't respond predictably, or sensibly, or even humanly. It honestly just ruins the game, they have no rational judgement yet we're supposed to believe there's been a big step up in the racecraft and difficulty of the AI..

A recent example, I was just in practice, Williams was on an outlap, I was running my Quali sim. And I left plenty of space, approached up the inside, the car slowed down to let me pass but then just turned into me and aimed for the apex all the same... I mean, right. Again, unpredictable, showing signs of one thing, yet actions another. Resulting in sidepod glitching me (Reference to F1 2017) and losing most of my front wing.

On more than one occasion this happens. Also, even on 105 AI, where on some circuits the lead cars can be just out of reach for me, if I do catch them, unless they try and hit me as mentioned above they just give up and back off. Almost handing me the place? I mean, Assetto Corsa has better AI than that. All the reviews I read before buying the same said that the AI were just that little bit too aggressive. But I think they really do need toning down and refining.

I recently posted a video clip of an erratic AI backmarker, though was hoping Faya would reply with any info on it.

But apart from the odd crazy AI moment (often blue flag moments) most seem to (myself included) relish the AI in their new form. They push you harder, keep you honest in corners and test you at every move, attacking or defensively. Of course naturally they will punish you if you go too far, but its a good lesson if you need it.

If however (as like yourself described) you race cleanly and fair, then there may be an issue or bug/glitch needs looking into. Video clips always help to clarify this. So please feel free to add some examples of this as you aren't the only one who has had issues with being rammed from behind. And I have yet to experience this in any F1 game. So seeing the circumstances to the situation can help greatly, for you and Codemasters.

Proof will help lessen the risk of those of us who really enjoy the new AI not being dumbed down. Plus add what system you play on. It seems the PS4 (I play on) and Xbox for instance are not sharing many issues, and Steam has had the worst of the bugs.

I just did a 50% career race in Japan where Leclerc drove around with a pucture he received on lap 13, never boxed, and ended up collecting 3 AI cars on lap 22 for good measure, this is the first real error, glitch, or AI goof I've seen to this point.

I have noticed a couple of slow AI not pitting, assume its terminal though as I don't notice them struggling to control the car, plus you'd expect them to pit for that! But sometimes they just go round and round at 30 mph (mostly out of the way thankfully though).

Similar thing happened to me in career at Austria. Bottas was driving around about 5mph for a few laps - weaving all over the road trying to block people and eventually took out 3 drivers, including the leader Hamilton.

Noticed that a few times now. Never retire but just happily cruise round doing 4:58 laps instead of 1:25 for example. No warning or message from Jeff advising me they have a problem. Lucky if I get a blue flag at times.

I forgot about my thread sorry. No I don't have any definitive clips to share. Although the AI just cost me a good position finish in Career in Japan. Vandoorne was running slow with an issue, about 5 cars backed up behind him (I began from the back with engine penalties). I picked them off one by one with absolute ease, yet they just couldn't overtake each other at all. Anyone who tried to re-overtake me just absolutely barrelled it down my inside, or sometimes my outside and made contact with me each and every time, I didn't even change my steering angle. It's frustrating and it's making me hate racing the AI because they just make sudden direction changes and clip you for no reason. The whole point of this game is racing.. I'm sure 2017 was cleaner and fairer racing than this. They really really need to refine the aggression and use clean car positioning rather than allowing them to play bumper cars with the player, or each other I've noticed...

The AI simply do not make particularly safe overtakes. I've been hit so many times trying to let the AI go through as a backmarker it's not even funny. They have a ton of room and choose to swipe into me anyway. It's crazy. When they overtake they move over just enough to clear you but they don't account for the fact that you may drift off the line you are taking slightly. They do this even if they have more room to operate in to overtake more safety. There's aggressive AI and then there's insane AI. Consider on top of this that there are people complaining that the patches after 1.04 made the AI less aggressive. I have no idea what planet these people are on.

Back to this again. Getting incredibly frustrated. Out of every single racing game I've played it's insane how aggressive these AI are. It's like bumper cars for them

Not really aggressive. I really loved the AI in version 1.01. now they are to soft

They really tweaked it and still living on planet earth. Miss that wheelbanging from corner 1 to 5
